Do you guys remember when Richmond kept Hardwick back in 2016 despite everyone wanting him sacked? From memory they brought in Caddy, Prestia, Nankervis and some new assistant coaches over the 2016 off season, and we all know what happened in 2017.

I've noticed Port have brought in Lukosius and Richards but haven't brought in any new assistants. How come they're not making changes to the coaching box? The good clubs tend to rotate assistant coaches in order to bring new ideas into the box. Port are at risk of becoming stale in my opinion, but that's just my two cents.

Wasn't just the assistant coaches, it was Hardwick himself who flew to the US and studied and became a better coach.

Despite not going overseas to study and improve himself, Hinkley has taken Port to the top 4 in four of the last five years. Finals performances have been poor though so if he takes Port backwards next year, then it's time to move on and find someone else.

Why don't Port make Hinkley go overseas to study and improve himself? I heard Craig McRae went to Harvard University so he could look to improve. Hinkley could have converted at least one of those top 4 finishes into a premiership if he'd gone overseas to study in the past.

What happened that night anyway? Watching that game it was like most of the Port players had the flu given how far off the pace they were. Port had an excellent win in the 2021 qualifying final so Hinkley should get credit for it, especially as he was up against Geelong and Chris Scott is widely regarded as a mastermind. The way Port played that night was consistent with how they played throughout the entire home and away season, with the preliminary final being an outlier so I think it's fair to judge Port's 2021 season on the collective rather than judge on one game.

While watching the preliminary final this year it was very apparent how the players lacked polish with their forward 50 entries and ball movement through the corridor. The players really need to work on their skill execution over summer because we've seen how lack of polish cost them a grand final appearance.

Geelong were highly successful in 2007 and 2009 when Hinkley was senior assistant to Mark Thompson.

And Ken was the one who pinoneered the Cats “through the guts as quick as possible with high risk” style.
Defenders pushed up super high which meant a wave of runners coming through.
Only problem is it leaves you open for counter attack.

That style went away when more zone came in but it’s made a comeback as footy rule changes have made it much more man on man again and prioritising winning your one on one’s.
Ken still runs that same style that 2007 Geelong did…just don’t know if Port have the talent of that 2007 Cats side (9 AA players across the park including at the time 2 soon to be Brownlow medallist’s) to be as effective when it counts.
