Where do you get the $17.7m figure from? That figure isn't in the documents submitted to the parliament select committee.

WAFC made about $10m net from 42k capacity Subi and that's what the WA government are giving them as part of the Perth Stadium deal $10.3m in year 1 and then indexed for CPI over the next 9 years.

The venue operators responsible for finding events and hiring it out and running the catering services are making their profit as well out of the new stadium.

Plus the private consortium that paid 40% of the cost upfront and get 25 years to maintain the stadium get their money back from the state government over 25 years plus a management fee. Its a more complicated model than AO.

Wasn't it reported in an article earlier this year/late last year? pretty certain I read it somewhere. Maybe that article got it wrong.

Also not a basket case financially also he had 1 year left not 2
Also coached them to a GF, also coached them to three top four finishes, also has won a final since 2014, yeah but he's definitely no Ken Hinkley.

Edit: on what basis is the PAFC a financial basket case?

Just listened to the Whately interview with Blight.

The one quote from Blight is pertinent. It was about Port have only had one losing season under Hinkley, and we're always knocking on the door. Juxtaposed with his other comment about Geelong being the most successful club in terms of wins since they last sacked their coach, that stability seemingly was the answer and you have to hold your nerve.

These guys are more than happy for us to be mediocre until the end of time. If all Hinkley can do is get us to the point where we are almost making finals then what is the point? Do they think Geelong would have kept the same coach if they made one finals appearance in five seasons? Whately don't tell us to stay the course when it is clear to everyone that the course we are going on will continue to leave us always just knocking on the door. There is no way these guys would be calling for the coach to stay if Geelong were in the same boat, it would be all "His time has come".

Blight is right though that our kids have been terrific, and it is the older players that have let us down. The same older players Hinkley will continue to support and lament when he is finally forced to drop them.

I would really love Mark to come back to look over say a Monty or Schoey, could also be great as a development coach.
I agree if we're going down the rebuild path I think he'd be huge in the development of our younger plays especially Powell pepper

There you have it - Ken doesn’t care about winning or losing just wants to make sure we are “good people”...

And it looks like that loser mentality has rubbed off on our senior players like Hartlett.
We are Port Adelaide
We exist to be good people

“The history we have to live up to is very hard”

“Ken comes into the club with a smile on his face after being slammed by the media and supporters”

“As long as we’re good people off the field”

Boo ****ing Hoo. Boys it’s time your father went awhile for awhile, it’s not healthy anymore.

$16.3m was the figure for 2018 according to those documents

I just can’t see how Ken can survive into next year. Surely, the board has to take into consideration the weekly distraction of having a Senior coach who is fighting for his very survival.

Next year carries a lot of significance being our 150th Anniversary year. Do we really want the spotlight squarely focused on our SC before a ball is even bounced? What happens after a bad loss when every media outlet will be speculating is this week he goes?

Bite the bullet & do it now, his position has already become untenable.

We're just a little battler club from alberton so it's good enough for us to do 52% wins every year and make the finals occasionally as long as make our community proud

I actually think the reason they want to change the whole ‘we exist to win premierships idea/mindset’ - it's a different league from the old days etc... is that the mental pressure of having that on them is why they always fail when we should win, I dead set reckon that's a thing.

As much as we want Kenny gone, you can't deny, the players love playing for him.
We've had many players sign-on this year under him, with plenty of belief in him still remaining in most of our players.
It's a shame, hopefully, our next coach will have an equal or greater amount of personal connection with the players and group.

I agree

But it seems they love playing for him because he sets such low team performance standards

I mean, who wouldn’t love getting paid $500k a year just to be a good bloke and regardless of whether or not you actually deliver to your clients

Perhaps he can become the player welfare officer instead. It seems to fit his specific skill set more than coaching does.

They don't play like it. The North Melbourne game was a perfect example of the last few years. Anytime there is a chance to consolidate our position we shit the bed. If we need to win this weekend, we will stuff it up again. If we are out of finals contention, we will win comfortably.

Cause there’s no pressure for them to perform. Near enough is good enough.

They played like they were being forced to play to a game plan that they knew wouldn't work. The only other team I've seen that looked similar was Melbourne under Neeld.
Liking Kenny as a person is one thing. Believing that he's the coach who is going to take them top 4 is another. I reckon it's slowly sinking in to the playing group that he's not capable of taking them any further than 9th (or 8th in a Bradbury). Which is not where they want to be.
