Opinion Sack Hinkley 3 - 2021 is worse than 2020 already

Wait, do people here still think we need to sack Ken?

The default position has to be that he's on wildly borrowed time and unless he proves otherwise, should be sacked at the end of the season.

Proving otherwise would be a flag, or at the very least a grand final appearance.

Maybe the problem was that the people he was surrounded with weren't saying anything worth listening to, ever think of that?

Nicks, Lade and Voss ain't exactly high on my list of future head coaches.

Ken to me is in a similar position to someone like Trent McKenzie. Would
I delist Trent McKenzie right now? No. Would I give him a nice long contract extension? No. One good half season out of the last 5 or 6 years doesn't warrant it.

Ken has been useless for the better part of 5 years and should've already been out of the system right now, but he has had a huge turnaround this year and is finally performing up to the standard. That's not just based on our ladder position either. Selections have been better (aside from the Sutcliffe hiccup). Structure has been better. Gameplan has been better. Youth development has been better. I don't know what's happened to change his philosophy, but if Ken had been coaching like this since 2015, we'd have played a lot more finals and we wouldn't have had tens of thousands of posts about sacking him.

If a genie popped out of a bottle and gave me the power to sack him mid-contract right now, I probably wouldn't. But I sure as shit wouldn't be extending him either. He's done enough to earn a stay of execution but he hasn't done enough to be pardoned completely. He has until the end of 2021 to actually achieve something over a whole season that isn't midtable mediocrity. If he doesn't, see ya Ken.

Voss and Bassett can leave with him as far as I'm concerned, all 3 are a massive drain on our finances for very little return, proofs in the pudding.

So there will be a Sack Hinkley thread part 4,5 & 6 then.:D

Yeah the fact that not one of these guys publicly and vigorously shut down the idiotic idea of co captains doesnt say great things about their input.

One of them is literally the most recently appointed senior coach in the AFL and the other two are assistants at clubs currently ranked 1st and 2nd on the AFL ladder.

Lol. That senior coach is literally going to be the worst senior coach in AFL history, Voss isn’t even in the coaches box any more, and Lade isn’t even at St Kilda - he was stood down due to the pandemic.

Nicks has no support but you wouldn't use that as an excuse would you?
Its only the senior coaches fault when it suits the narrative.

Oh you can use it as an excuse, but that makes my point even stronger - your assistant coaches are just as important at AFL level.
