Traditionally we capitulate under the weight of any sort of expectation. Hinkley's grand plan has not been to steel the group and teach them to carry that expectation as a point of pride, but to instead downplay expectation at every opportunity. We've never been ruthless under Ken (I'd argue ever in the AFL), even at our peak. This is why.

Yep. I don't credit Hinkley with introducing a flaky, mentally weak mindset into the club, that's 100% on Choco and the administration through the 2000s allowing him to be that way.

But Hinkley has made us significantly worse in that aspect, and his behaviour has been cheered on by Koch who has been a complete, unmitigated disaster for this club's culture to the point where you wonder if we can ever get back to average, let alone the iron will of the SANFL era.

He could have been far more definitive in shutting them down if they were false, ie something like, "these rumours are completely unfounded and categorically untrue. I have not had any contact with GWS nor has my manager been in contact with any team regarding my services. I am the head coach of Port Adelaide and have every intention of seeing out my contract and look forward to working at this club for many years to come."

He had an option to unequivocally shut down the rumours, and he chose instead to laugh at them and play the deflecting game.
Whether the rumours are true or false, whether Ken wants to stay at Port or not, he has zero interest in shutting them down. If he's got GWS stupid enough to have told him he's got the job he's not going to want to get sacked from Port until he's extracted the maximum money. If he hasn't got GWS lined up he's going to want to scare Koch into keeping him (and we can't trust Koch to not be that dumb again). Everyone at Port has shown themselves to be so inept the last few years, that any statement around Ken can't be read in anything, but the worst way (ie. he's staying and we're buttering you up for HoW GOoD is THis PoWER FanS!)

I swear to god the AFL better give us a home game against GWS next year if Kens their coach.
We all know if he takes the GWS, that since they are AFL controlled (even more than us), that they'd have to sign off on it. We all know Ken 'Pressure was my middle name, but I changed it by deed poll as I don't like pressure' Hinkley would be telling the AFL they aren't to give GWS a game against us at AO until at least 2025.

He said "a lot of it is not true". He didn't say all of it wasn't true.

I'm at the MCG watching Charlie warm up with Chadbro and I'm thinking, how often do you hear the success of players such as Hawkins, Tom Lynch, Franklin, Naughton etc judged on "he brings the ball to ground"? I mean, even the fundamental theories of the game are out of whack at Port. We traded in Charlie ****en Dixon and reduced him to a defensive forward. I'm at the G to watch my club but I really couldn't be more jaded.

So we lost the best of our assistant coaches last year.

Didn’t replace them.

Assumed we didn’t as we wanted to save the cash to pay out Ken.

If that’s not the case, then did the club think it was good enough to just scrape through on skeletal staff and cruise along?

Get more disinterested in this group by the day.

Do you believe it 100%?

That accompanying Richardson quote is the most unequivocal statement to come out of the club since the speculation began.

And if history’s any guide, he does.
