08-10 was horrific as a Port fan. Much worse than Hinkley.

At least with Hinkley you can tell early when we arent going to win.

With Choc we could often look a million dollars, be 7-10 goals up and still manage to lose. 2 goals up with minutes to go and lose.

08-10 was probably the least enjoyable time as a Port fan for me
We were a top 4 team and flag contender for seven seasons, our best leaders were fast approaching the end, our coach was going mad, the club was going broke, absolutely those fadeouts were a disgrace that there was no excuse for, but much of it was inevitable.

Hinkley is in the opposite situation, players in their prime, off field strength, a coach supposedly in his prime, no issues attracting first 22 players, and he's managed to make finals roughly half the time with two top 4 finishes.

In 08-10, the chain was broken everywhere. Since 2013 Hinkley became a cancer that has slowly all around him when things were looking really positive.

Whilst our fitness staff now aren't the league leading it was in 2013/2014, it's a far cry from those days. We literally had a guy with Moobs running our fitness department (with little support for him at that). The players aerobic capacity was shit. They'd die late in games and we'd get run over. I CBF doing it, but I'm pretty sure if a Win-loss of the 2008-2012 period was done of Half-time (or even three quarter time) versus full time that the former would look better.

I agree with Macca that the late Choco days were the worst days as a Port fan but that's not to say it feels like we're any closer to winning a flag now than then.
It felt like the culture and standards of the place were still more intact with Port, than they are now, at the least.

Meh I have 2008-2010 way ahead of 2019, or 2007.

This year depends entirely on whether we change our coaches box. If this is the motivation we need to make changes we could look at this season as a turning point and its quite a positive season. If we go in to next year with the same blokes in the box and waste another year then this year will be looked back on as one of the worst.

The culture of bullying allowed to fester under Williams is a place we don't want to ever go back to. I've personally heard some things from the mouth of a young player at the club during that time, and one of Williams' chief whips is currently on the coaching staff.

Brett Montgomery? :p

and one of Williams' chief whips is currently on the coaching staff.

Who returned to the club and we suddenly had a problem with a 22yo star who’d just won his second All-Australian guernsey.

Pure coincidence, I’m sure.

Don't worry, ken Hinkley will bravely talk up the monumental challenge that is the gold coast suns in the lead up to our game.

It’s a scary proposition. Gold Coast at Metricon, doesn’t get any harder than that. We know the challenge in front of us. We understand that and we get that. But I’m confident if the boys can sustain their pressure and effort that the we can get the job done

Don't forget we should be fine if we stay in the moment, the hear and now.

A complete lack of respect for the Gold Coast SUNS. They've got a 7/6 win/loss ratio this season. It's not as if they are the easy beats they once were.
That will be the media opinion next week if we lose to the Suns.

It would be interesting to observe the difference between the two SA sides criticisms.

bullying is so over rated, if it worked then why is Ken still coaching. Most people just use it as an excuse why their lives are a failure and it helps to blame others than to blame yourself. Get yourself a backbone is my advice

What? As opposed to how he is when sober?
A couple of people I know that are teetotal got extremely drunk and had very bad ill effects as a teenager. The suggestion probably is that Hinkley is in that category.

I wonder how some of the experts on this thread would reconcile the sturt years!

Same as people who suffer from depression should just snap out of it, yeah right.

Hhmmm, I feel that we are getting the 'very bad ill effects' right now

Depends how Nangwarry go on the weekend I suppose

Choco's `mad scientist' days were just as bad as our current situation with kern, and may have even been worse, it's difficult to believe there are Port supporters who would take him back.

The "sturt years"? WTF are the "sturt years"?

I've asked before do you mean the late 1960's? What possible relevance has that to Hinkley's coaching performance? Is it because Sturt went on to become an AFL powerhouse? That's Sturt that since their run of five SNAFL flags 1966-1970 have only won another five since, the last three in a second rate feeder competition.

It's typical that someone who thinks Hinkley is the best AFL coach ever sets such a low bar for continued success.
