Can we change our General Port Stuff thread title to The Port Mafia please.

Just listening to ol' mate St Ken's interview on SEN Vic this morning. Did anyone know we had SIGNIFICANT injuries and unavailable personnel early in the season? Can't cover one key forward and one key back (out for 4 games only)? You're a hellavu coach Ken.
Excuses are for the weak.

The Primus years were some of the best times I’ve ever had going to the footy and I scheduled my entire life around attending. Yeh we sucked anus, but there were extenuating circumstances with the SANFL bleeding us through multiple avenues and having the most under funded footy dept of all time. But there was hope. We went to games not expecting anything other than to see improvement from the kids and that’s what we got. The Paul Stewart thriller is still the loudest crowd I’ve heard and there was 16 of us at the game that day.

This year I’ve been to one game and that was purely out of guilt. Not guilt for the club, guilt for having paid for a membership and not used it. I find every other excuse not to attend anymore because frankly, I don’t give a shit. Until there is legitimate change in leadership (chairman, coach, captain) and I see the club actually pulling in another direction I’ll continue to lose interest to the point of no coming back.

The one significant injury forced them into a much more effective forward strategy (and kicking in strategy)

But they were the only two semi-decent players on our list. The rest of our list is certified uncoachable potatoes. It's only because of the genius of Kenny Hinkley that we didn't get smashed by 20 goals every week

apparently.

I could only get through a minute of it before turning it off. With the softball questions to "Kenny", it's just more than I can handle these days.

I can only speak for myself, but that's pretty much why i haven't attended a game this year. Started out as a silent protest thing, but it's gotten to the point where i've simply checked out emotionally from the club now, albeit i still get a massive kick out of Todd Marshall doing well.

The latest round of industry praise being heaped on Hinkley because he’s managed to TuRn ThInGs ArOuNd to a position of pure mediocrity on the eve of playing Freo at Optus — a fixture he was frequently incapable of winning when they were critically undermanned and terrible — is the latest blow.

Nobody with two braincells to rub together should be content, let alone happy, with the current state of affairs, but here we are.

Once again ostracised as heretics because we won’t get on our knees and play ol’ Ken’s flute like it shoots nutella, as he’s once again found a way to grind out a series of victories with an overall degree of difficulty and achievement in the ballpark of “ho-hum” to save the seemingly endless monotony of his tenure.

This doesn’t make me want to get along to ThE PoRtReSs.

It makes me wish I was born into one of those ivory tower families who think sport is for low-class morons (but think a heroin addict bushman’s hankying his nose over a canvas is ‘art’).

He's got the media eating out of his hand. Look at them laughing and joking with him. Imagine a 10th year coach at say Richmond who hadn't made a GF and was sitting 7-7 - they'd be trying to get him sacked every day, not having a laugh with him.

Ultimately though it's not the media's fault. It's our club that accepts its place as a third rate irrelevance and bows to the media's assessment that Port Adelaide being anything other than eternally shit is a magnificent achievement. In effect, we allow the Victorian media to define our club. And as someone once said, we get what we deserve.

A cultist trotted this out to me a fortnight ago.

When I pointed out that Freo went to Kardinia Park and won without Fyfe, Darcy and Taberner, the exchange abruptly ended.

Especially after their long period of "We have a Squad Mentality - it doesn't matter who is out there, they will play the same way"

Yeah BS.

In effect, we allow the Victorian media to define our club.

We’ll be pushing uphill in that regard.

I’ll never forget the wake of Primus’ resignation when 360’s Sellers Maclure said, “they should hire Mark Bickley, they hate Victorians over there”.
