I haven't watched a Hinkley presser in a long time but I thought I would torture myself and listen last night.

He looks flat and almost flustered to me, his mouth was ahead of his brain a lot more than usual.

This is not his usual cocky attitude, he almost looked humbled to still have a job.

Is this a coach on his way out, trying not to jepardize his position any further ?
I lasted not more than 45 seconds. His selective bullsh*t is consistent at least. "GWS was ranked second in offense in the last 7 rounds". They've won 5 games out of 16 rounds you moron.

We'll scrape into the finals & he'll be here for another decade.

Nah go do the ladder predictor, I have done it a few times and been quite generous to us and also sensibly picked the other teams games.

Because we are all going to win some and lose some it doesn't actually change that much.

Unless we win everything and the wheels fall off teams above us I think we finish 10th-12th.

We lose one more and then it's almost cactus, lose two more and it's all over.

Let's see where we are in 4 weeks.

Ken's a scrapper, it's why we are always hanging around but can never take that next step, I was thinking it was going to be like this, the bum won't fall out like Robbo suggests and we will be there abouts until 2 games from the end.

Even if we made finals i'd still move Ken on if we could get Clarko, we are talking about the next 6 years not next year, we better be thinking long-term and big-picture, we aren't serious otherwise.

If Ken's here next year there NO guarantees, it just means the management would rather not make a tough call on coaching, keeping ken is the softest thing to do.

Trying to sensibly pick the other teams (generally just going with whoever is higher on the ladder, or home teams if they are close), if we win every game from here I have us sneaking in at 6th - a lot of the teams around us have some pretty tough games.

But here's the thing, from Round 20 v Collingwood at G, through Richmond at home, Essendon away and Crows at home, each of those wins would put us into or lock us into the 8. Now you tell me it wouldn't be quintessentially Port for us to bottle at least one of those opportunities on a silver platter. It's just so predictable.

My call is we do something silly like beat Melbourne and Geelong, lose to Collingwood when the spot in the 8 is on the line, then further knock ourselves out with a capitulation against Essendon when we're still a mathematical chance. We're a predictably shit football club.

Yeah it's hard to predict abnormalities, but your right, can imagine a win against the Dees happening.

That's my cynical "Port will disappoint me in ways I thought impossible" brain with that call, the logical brain simply says we lose to Melbourne next week and we're pretty much dead anyway.

Problem is neither will prevent us from being the dreaded "mathematical chance" for a while yet so we'll be stuck with old mate Kenny Coke Zero for a while yet.

Not impossible in Alice but the Dees are a bit wobbly at the moment and we tend to help such teams get their form back.

This season's tease of making finals and not making finals is a summary of our time under Hinkley.

Reading the review thread and it's clear it's not just the happy clappers who have a cognitive dissonance of where we are at this year.
It just dawned on me that this whole season is shaping like a macro Hinkley game against a top 8 opponent.

A scoreless quarter (0-5)

Some wins that make getting points look like hard work (8-3)

Next would be a fightback within grasp of victory (either 4-1 or 5-1)

Then ultimately an agonising failure (either losing to the Crows to miss finals or a meek first final loss, followed by keeping Hinkley on and " I wouldn't change a thing").

I can already see myself rage-reading the synopsis of Koch’s gushing interview on 5AA after the 7-goal Elimination Final defeat.

Can everyone not understand that PAFC under Hinkley only perform when the pressure isn’t on.
Can rarely beat a top 8 side when we are in the top 8, but when we have nothing to lose, we can. Wake up and get rid of the loser
Spot on. If we win our next 2 games, I'll reassess the situation, but hands up everyone who's confident about us beating Melbourne and Geelong.

We've beaten 1 team in the top 8 all year. We're not suddenly going to hit some magical, hitherto unused top gear to beat another (at least) 3 in the next 6 weeks to fly into the finals. We are what we are. We're 8-8 and 12th for a reason.
