Seriously do these guys understand? Backing kochie words and making excuses

Jack Hudson goes onto the Uncut page today to have a whinge about all the "abuse" then starts personally attacking me for
A. calling him a muppet
B. Not having a photo of myself on my profile
C. Being a 'spineless keyboard warrior' for not having the photo, or apparently my real name
D. Then completely loses it when I call him a hypocrite.

I realise now that calling him a muppet was too strong and not allowing him to get to his safe space was what triggered him.

I was thinking about the cycle of game styles the other day.

It seems to go around and around.

Right now we are in the

1. Free flowing attacking phase (Geelong, 7, 08, 09, 10, 11). We did this in 13/14

That is typically followed by

2. Flooding/slingshot (Sydney/West Coast, 14, 15, 16) We tried this in 16,17,18.

As teams realise that if they stick a couple of extras behind the ball and teams blindly rush it towards them they can hurt them on the rebound

That is then followed by

3. Possession game (Hawthorn 13,14,15)

As teams realise that if they are patient when teams flood back they can maintain possession and pick their way forwards.

Then followed by

4. Frontal pressure (Richmond 17,18,19,20) We tried this in 200, 21, 22.

As teams realise that if they apply enough pressure to the possession teams they can make them turn it over and then hurt them on the rebound with turnovers high up the ground.

And then back to free flowing/attacking (Melbourne 21,22).

As you can see the problem with Ken's reign is he has always been copying the trends 0-3 years behind and is therefore getting beaten as the game has already moved on (bar maybe 14 and 20 when we almost got there).

Sydney/West Coast were probably in the same boat in 14, 15 and 16.

Geelong, Hawthorn, Richmond and Melbourne on the other hand were ahead of the curve and therefore won flags.

Anyway the point being (despite wanting to share a theory I have been mulling over) is that Lyon's flooding/slingshot game style is probably the answer to Melbourne's all out attack and could well be the next evolution if the game (especially as the stand rule has invalidated the frontal pressure game teams like us are trying to play).
Interesting, but I don’t believe this. I think more than one approach can be competitive simultaneously. The key is to have the right one for the players you have available.

One team will be premiers, but it doesn’t mean their style is the right one for everybody.

....

Hinkley is contracted until the end of the 2023 season and Blight is not even contemplating the thought of Hinkley not coaching until then.

...

If I could’ve taken anything in footy, I’d take top four any time of the day and he’s done it repeatedly.
lol, if anyone hadn't realised Blight has completely loss the plot they should now.

Premiership winning coach says he'd rather just finish top four than actually win a flag.

You are correct, but they have a weird obsession here with trying to copy the previous years winner gamestyle or a specific counter to it
Which seems a bit daft to me.

Well he proved that with the GF losses at the Cats.
Some players are just not cut out to be great coaches and Blight can sit in the failed coaches club along with his Geelong mate Hinkley.

Ummmm...

The media defense for Ken continues. This time they have pulled out Blighty to go into bat for poor Ken.

Hinkley is contracted until the end of the 2023 season and Blight is not even contemplating the thought of Hinkley not coaching until then.

He argues Hinkley has had only one losing season in his career (when a side loses more games than it wins).

“If you were sitting on a board now, you’d say that was a pretty good business,’’ Blight said.

The noise within the playing group was strong, Blight said, and the noise outside the playing group was from frustrated fans.

“They’ve come from the floor this mob with this bloke as coach and OK, there’s not a lifetime guarantee for anyone, but they’ve hit a hurdle (right now),’’ he said.

“The past two years, they’ve led in the Melbourne Cup and just got nutted.

“If I could’ve taken anything in footy, I’d take top four any time of the day and he’s done it repeatedly.
This is Hinkley and his manager at it again, enlisting his friend Malcom (sic) to go into bat for him publicly. Whenever Blight wants to speak he will always be given a public platform, so he made the perfect vehicle for Ken and manager.

I’ve enjoyed the podcasts so far but the most recent one smelt a bit off to me with all the get around the coach and stuff. Turned it off.

Tell you what, a primetime Thursday game this week couldn't've come at a better time - if we get belted, that's your easy headline for Thursday night and Friday morning. It should get plenty of media attention.

If he somehow makes it past the Carlton game then I'd have my eyes on the Bulldogs Friday night game as another massive pressure point. After that we will no doubt go off Broadway (Sunday Twilight let's go) and the club will find out easier to hide out from the media.

Sad it's come to this, but fingers crossed Melbourne belt us Thursday.

Don't worry mate , Melbourne will win this one by 90+

That's because Kenneth has never been able to come up with an idea himself and has consistently dismissed innovative ideas around the gameplan put forward by his assistants.

He is a man who is so concerned about his job security that he worries about who will get the credit for change rather than realising if the club has on field success he as coach will have all the job security in the world.
