Imagine still getting worked up over Kane Cornes in 2023.

Rucci (“they expect to make a Grand Final every year, they don’t understand”) and Whateley (“that’s not who you are in the AFL”) have both trotted out the same nonsense in recent years.

All of Kane’s wannabe-Cowherd/Bayliss shtick aside, it feels like a coordinated campaign directive from on high.

Geelong has made a further 5x GFs in the 15 years since we made our last one back in 2007. Granted that’s not every second year, but a rate of 1 in 3 is pretty damn close. Hmm maybe our expectations aren’t so delusional?!

15 years. That’s 30 GF slots up for grabs. With only 16-18 teams in an equalised comp each club should’ve jagged 1-2 appearances just through their shear existence. But we have achieved exactly ZERO appearances and that’s the exact opposite of being a significant success. That’s an objective failure.

This comp has had 4 dynasty teams since 2001. Back in ya box with expectation you Port nuffies.

Close enough isn’t good enough. Yeah we’ve been competitive, and yeah we’ve got close. But that isn’t success.

If Kenny can finish off this year with a flag then come back to us with this shit then Kane.

I don’t think any of us are expecting a flag every 2 years anymore, but far out I think we should be rightfully annoyed we haven’t won 1 in 19 years.

It’s almost as if there’s a continuum between the extremes of “every year” and “never” where people’s expectations actually lie.

I don't know any Ports' supporter that expects us to make a Grand Final every second year on average let alone win a flag that frequently.

There's a big disconnect between supporters expectations that we make a Grand Final at least once in a decade of Hinkley coaching and the club sycophants' defense of Hinkley.

Expecting a Grand Final every two years is false as well.

I expect a Grand Final if our list is talented enough for it.

I expected a Grand Final with the list that finished top 2 on the ladder twice. I expected finals with the same list last year. I expected at least one Grand Final with the core list with Boak, Gray, Wingard, Ryder etc in their primes after 2014.

I really wish some one would challenge this bloke on air about hinkley.. someone that he can’t just hang up on.. it’s sickening how much he sticks up for this clown.
Pure unadulterated BS.
Factually incorrect on several occasions in that diatriibe.

The issue isn't winning flags per se although that is the goal.
This is putting the cart before the horse.

It is the poor attitude and complete lack of accountability at an administrative and coaching level that is the true problem.
This leads to mediocrity.
People are more interested in keeping their jobs and status - STABILITY - than Living the Creed.
Stability in mediocrity.

The Creed talks about premierships but really it is about sacrificing, sometimes including yourself for the greater good and putting everything on the line to win.
If you do everything to win but the other team is better, there is no dishonour in that.
Does anyone truly think that David Koch or Ken Hinkley has ever done anything like that in their life.
Or do they seem like selfish apparatchicks?
And yes, Kane is now lumped with them. Koch, Hinkley, Kane - the 3 unaccountable losers.

A good club will nail opportunities when they come.
A good club with a great list will great dynasties. Reel off a number of premierships.
2020 was a golden opportunity but we came up against a great club with great values, a great admin and a great coach.

This is my main concern with the club going forward. We have a good young talented group and I really don't want to see
Hinkley and possibly Koch there. They have failed to a monumental degree in the past.
Koch can right the ship by sacking Koch and getting an good, aggressive coach at the midpoint of 2023 or 2024.

I can’t believe I was actually sad and upset when Kane Cornes retired.
Kane Cornes was a champion of this club, his character shines through with his charity efforts and you should pretty much just learn to ignore his obviously controversial comments made for the sake of job security.
Come on, maybe his last couple games were charity but don't ignore the 298 before it, even if he was a chip scab.

why? no other "champion of this club" has ever acted anywhere close to the way he does. why does he get a gold pass?

Contrast in styles:

Exhibit 'A'
Kansas head coach Andy Reid about to turn 65.
Lauded for his ability and desire to be "ahead of the game" and innovative, without having to be prodded into doing so.
Teaching younger coaches what it takes to achieve, and subsequently maintain, success.
A forward thinker and analyst of his game.
Loses key planks in his team roster - no worries.
Always seeking to improve and change things up/work outside the square.

Exhibit 'B'

Whereas as Port................................................

.................how's the stability boys! Steady as she goes.

Youse haf to work hardery.

I would be sad and upset because it has resulted in seven years of sucking off Ken from the most recognised media figure to come out of our club.

I'd rather him stfu and still be playing chipscab footy if that was a choice.
