We literally have a lame duck coach who knows he won't be here after next year stubbornly digging his heels in because he wants to milk more than the $6 million or so he's already milked out of the club, presumably to gamble on greyhounds and to buy himself his next cashed up bogan McMansion somewhere just out of Geelong.

This is what we have become. A total farcical joke of a franchise team appropriating the name of a once proud football club.
This is it. I can't see what metrics lead to ken getting an extension beyond next year apart from a premiership.
He's already the longest serving single club coach to not make a GF and he'll probably be the longest serving full stop by the end of next year. There is no precedent for a guy being so poor/average as a head coach as long as him.
My job wouldn't keep people in an equivalent position for 10 years, certainly not without repeated high level success.
Every criticism of ken has been the same since 2015, teams that can't perform under expectation, reliance on individual brilliance rather than a defined team structure, bizarre selection of players not to AFL standard in preference to development of young talent, shoehorning undersized midfielders into the pressure forward role etc. He's not fixing these things, it's the same failings over and over.
Surely he knows he's pushing uphill to extend his coaching career at Port. Everything we've seen of ken over the past 10 years shows he doesn't cope with pressure or criticism and I don't know how he goes another year with that hanging over him from day 1. It has to be about the money for him or he'd walk himself.
Most likely he reaches a point mid season where he'll get his full salary regardless and quits to be a fireman or an astronaut. The club is then left with its pants down scrambling to adjust the coaching group to cover the back end of the season.
I know the transitioning coach role is BS and hasn't really worked but at this point we pretty much need to hire our next head coach, sit ken at the back of the box and let him know that he's not coming back in 2024 to minimise the damage and have some momentum coming out of 2023

Two shots from today, the guy on the left has the look like he doesn't even want to be here. Dead Man Walking.

The fact that Hinkley is speculated on every single available job even though he and the club have steadfastly said that he will be at Port next year is..... I don't really know how to explain it.... Nobody is willing to say Port don't want him, yet he's being put up as a prime candidate for every job... does that make old Man Boobs feel good or bad?
Ken's happy with it IMO. He knows he's not getting a job elsewhere, but also Koch was dumb enough to give him an unwarranted extension due to GC in 2017. He / his manager would be using these as 'Ken's getting asked, but keeps saying no as he's here for 2023. Once 2023 rolls around though ...'. Hoping Koch is still here and ready to panic extend Ken again.

I think at this point, deep down, even Koch knows Ken is highly unlikely to make it, but he doesn't want to get rid of him and admit he backed the wrong horsegreyhound. So he'll keep extending him, hoping for a miracle flag (every other side from 1-7 gets busted for drugs or died in a plane crash) he can point to as vindication.

IMO, part of this comes from how the AFL terms every coach that hasn't come out themselves, that they don't want to coach anymore, as being sacked. Whether it's truly sacked, as in still time to run on their contract or not offered a new contract. The AFL media loves to conflate the two for clickbait, but they aren't the same. We're not going to get the true pleasure of Ken being sacked. It'll be at some point (hopefully end of 2023) going into the sunset, weighed down by his money bags, Koch blowing smoke up his arse one last time.
