Lol at media saying Richmond should contact Donuts

1 - no way Donuts would want to coach a major Victorian club, the pressure and scrutiny would be like nothing he’s seen before at Port Adelaide

2 - in what world does Richmond, on the back of three flags in the last seven years phone up a perennial loser for his assistance
But wouldn't it be fantastic if they did. But no one is that stupid surely. Gold Coast need Daddy Donuts' pastoral care on the bench however.

I can't believe we are in the same situation as with Choco, IE having to address the contract of the head coach mid year and way before we have the relevant data. Koch should not have tabled August FFS. If we are Top 2/4 come August there is no way that he doesn't get an extension.

I actually reckon Ken is an ideal waiting room type coach for a team looking to rebuild. I know it's hard for many of us to think about his strengths, but locker room harmony and playing a physically competitive, if stupid brand of football is his wheelhouse. That's exactly what you want for a side that needs to rebuild via the draft. So WCE, Richmond, GC could all do far worse.

My gut feel is, the louder the "extend Kenny now" drums are beating in the media, the more likely Carr will be the head coach in 2024. They are just tightening the screws at the behest of Blucher in the hope Koch blinks and does the unthinkable.
The AFL industry as a whole is fully aware Hinkley doesn't have what it takes, and a contract extension at Port is his only real option.
Even David Koch isn't stupid enough to fall for this, allow Carr to walk, and be saddled with Hinkley for another 3 years. Surely not.

Not sure about that.

He can * off with his extension and prong another club. If Koch can read empty seats he'll stick to the August timeline and hide behind

us being outbid. Carr will cost less giving us soft cap space to beef up our Footy Dept. For those on here who hate the haters I put my hand up

as some-one who had had enough of him in 2017. I hope it doesn't confuse the narrative but I went on Friday night and really enjoyed watching

our emerging stars (incl Williams and Ollie Lord). The roar when Rozee snapped that goal with 4mins left was as loud as Motlop's showdown goal.

In bay 125 it was pandemonium, high fives all round and most of my immediate circle there have had enough of Donuts.

It's possible to be a critic and a supporter.

Edmund threw up Hinkley to Richmond and Tim immediately went to his lack of success. Amazing.

Watson: Ken Hinkley isn't even in consideration as first approached about the Richmond job

Also Watson: if Port are in the premiership race in August what other decision can they make other than to re-sign Hinkley?

Haha when actually pressed the truth comes out. No one actually rates Hinkley.

They rate him but only as a stable Daddy for an also ran 'interstate club' that is regarded as doing well to just be competitive and could never hope to actually win the thing.

I’m watching all this with great interest.

- The younger players all love Kenny (from a close source to the club) and that is evident by what we see - which has been orchestrated by Warrens comments if you ask me, Ken is shrewd and played the watch them love me card.

- Some people believe Carr is coaching (I don’t believe Ken just handed over control being he’s the paid senior coach do you?

- Hardwick has the runs on the board but not that many coaches go on to win flags elsewhere so a little unsure how it would actually pan out.

- Carr could be the next Hardwick? Who knows, that may well be the case.

- Would we be better off having Carr as coach if Ken goes as he’s built relationships with the players?

- Would bringing in a new coach from outside disrupt all the energy the group seems to have?

- Would you keep the status quo and give Ken a one year rolling contract?

There wi be lots of coaching movements too this year, will be interesting to see how it all changes for various clubs.

One thing for sure is the more we keep winning it’s unlikely you’d sack Ken or the other coaches if we can keep playing the way we are and make a GF? Perhaps they have found a formula, or it’s simply a matter of timing?

Ken or any coach would want to coach a team with JHF, Rozee and Butters in it, that’s blue chip premiership material, hopefully the club just waits till August, I’d suspect the best candidates will still be around, that midfield is gold.
A lot of questions I've been pondering too.

If Carr is coaching and it seems very strongly likely, I think you have to stick with what you have and ditch Hinkley.

I would definitely not keep the status quo but dump Hinkley and find another good assistant coach.

I think Ken is pretty much gone. Malthouse had to give the keys over to Buckley even though he made a Grand Final.
Surely, Koch has had enough stability. Even Koch has given him 10 years and it hasn't worked out.
You can't keep a figurehead over someone who is actually doing the work.

It all boils down to is Carr or Hinkley coaching?
If Carr is coaching, he gets the job and Hinkley is cut.
If it is Hinkley, he gets the cut and Carr gets the job.

The second part is correct though and to me really only points out how stupid the plan to make a decision in August was from the get go. If you're committed to making a yes/no decision before the finals start, and when the finals start your club is top 4, how do you not choose yes?

It just shows that it always should have been a decision to be made after the season finished. Give him the chance to win a flag before having that conversation sure.

I really don't think they'd follow him anywhere. As much as Zak Butters might love Hinkley, he also loves his team mates, and Josh Carr has clearly been a huge influence on his rise this year. I'm sure it wouldn't take much more than Carr having a sit down chat with Butters to convince him to sign a long term deal.

Josh Carr will deliver the Brownlow Zak deserves.

Ken will not.

How’s Watson’s disdain towards ‘living in South Australia’.
He epitomises the worst of Victorian arrogance within the AFL.
Absolute entitled wankstain.

The plan to wait til August only makes sense if the August announcement is that Ken has had enough.
