I never understood it when he made the call. I couldn't work out which of the following was true:

A. Kochie doesn't realise the season finishes end of September

B. Kochie thinks we'll be out of finals contention by August (personally I thought he was being optimistic at the time)

C. Kochie better not think that making the 8 was grounds for a renewal.

There is literally no need to re-sign Ken now. This idea that if Port don't sign him now they risk losing him is concocted solely by the media.

Simply put, Ken isn't going to leave mid season even if he were to decide to move elsewhere. Further to that, show me a scenario where a coach has come to an agreement to coach a different team in a future season whilst they are in the middle of a season currently employed coaching at another club? To my recollection, it has never happened.

Panicking over something that is literally not going to happen nor has ever happened before would be quintessential Koch though. That being said, he isn't oblivious to the fact if Ken is prematurely re-signed and they fail in finals the spotlight will turn from Ken and fall firmly on Koch's position as Chairman.

I think you've missed what I mean...

What I'm pointing out is that setting a timline to make a decision in August is the core problem because it puts you in these situations. There should always either not have been a timeline, or a timeline which was very clearly we will make a decision once the season finishes.
Yep that’s what I’m thinking with the way things are going it’s going to be hard not to resign him in August.

Should have just said we make a decision at seasons end that way if we are not there in that last Saturday he’s out.
Everything is fkd up because we are winning 😂😂😂😂 even more winning than I thought.

My thoughts are he will head to the Gold Coast with our clubs full blessing. You can win a Premiership without a quality KPD or Ruck, but not without both. We have done extremely well to cover over these deficiencies for 10 rounds (mainly thanks to our midfield), but one feels we will eventually be exposed at the pointy end of the season.

The idea would be if you make him wait he'll start to feel not valued and the overtures from other clubs will begin to seem attractive, whereas if you just offer him a contract now he signs it and you lock him away.

This is based on a fundamentally different premise from what we're used to discussing - ie, it's Ken making a call on us rather than the other way around.

This is exactly how 99% of opposition fans think when it comes to Ken Hinkley and Port Adelaide.

Is there some factory where these second rate ivory tower longform & podcast wannabes are churned out?

Dreadful takes, embarrassing follow-ups.
