Don't forget the Crows may be looking for a new coach at seasons end too, Port need to make their move now.

I got laughed at for suggesting that this could be Nicks’s last year.

But now that Hardwick is available….and Adam Simpson will likely be available soon too, or if they’re happy to wait one more year then Simon Goodwin might be available then too.

Carr - Hardwick - Buckley - Caracella. These guys look to be available, how many teams will be looking for a new coach. Pickings are slim so we must move now on the right person for Port, or we will again be left with the last man standing and that will most likely be Ken.

What if Hinkley decides to go himself and we wait until the end of finals we won't get a crack at the best available. Now is the time to strike before clubs like Richmond, Gold Coast, Carlton the Crows and maybe a few others take the cream.

We are now in the best possible position to cut Hinkley loose and get in first, if the club doesn't take advantage of this situation then they are completely inept and not doing their due diligence.

If Koch comes out and says it is possibly ken's last year at Port then chances are Gold Coast or another club will give him an opportunity, to me me that's fair for all.

You are spot on, why would the crows not look at Carr especially if Hinkley stays and there is Hardwick and Buckley, beside the Clowns have shown that they have more balls than the current Port Adelaide to make hard decisions.

The club can still be respectful to Hinkley and let him coach out the season but they can still sound out the potential candidates, they can still come to an agreement with a new coach while letting Ken coach out his contract.

If what Koch is saying is accurate, they will not enter discussions with ken or potential coaches before seasons end, it can only mean one of two things, Ken gets a cushy 2 year extension or Carr replaces ken as head coach, hopefully the latter in this circumstance.

I've got no idea why people think Adelaide would move Nicks on. Their rise from the spoon is faster than most clubs and the brand of footy they are currently playing is good. It's not like he's got a mid age underachieving list, they're still on the up.

If the plan was always for him to be a punching bag til they could switch to a successful coach once one was available then you need more evidence than a few good h&a games to deviate from that plan. Wouldn't shock me at all if they put a huge offer in front of Dimma.

I've got no doubt any extension at Port would be 2 years. And it would seem well out of character for Koch to put any onerous performance based clauses in the contract.

I also don't think he's as in demand elsewhere as the media make him out to be. I can't see any club except the SUNS offering him their top job.

The irony of all of this is that despite our stability mantra we are cultivating a very unstable environment. Sure, it's not apparent right now, but it's still May and we haven't lost a game in nearly two months. As the season goes on and we inevitably lose a few, the pressure is going to mount.

How are we cultivating an unstable environment? I’d say we are very solid on and off field.

Also when we do lose a few, (which I guess we will??) the pressure won’t mount it will just return to a more normal acceptance that we may look else more for a coach and or Ken might look at any offers too. Won’t stop the media talking rot though, they will be the drivers in all of this as it’s how they make a living.

The Suns would like Kenny no doubt, AFL driven, can’t see him heading west and he hates living in the big city so can’t see it being Richmond.

Ken will firstly probably love to stay put, but the dude is such the gambler and at the moment this year is paying off better than what he’d of expected.

Koch would be waking up at nights in a sweat atm as he’s going to have to make a decision that’s going to upset someone.

Be interesting to see if the team gets distracted at some point and loses focus.

Bring in star youngsters*

*As long as they're not more than 6ft2
*As long as they are poachable from the interstate clubs!

Which is the worry for me, probably unnecessary, but they may see him as someone who comes packaged with Butters and Wines.

You may be right but if there is a chance to get the best going around you move on it, or you end up with an 11 year average Joe.

If your club doesn't look to hire the best they are doing the club and it's supporter base an injustice.

Nicks is contracted until the end of 2024.

I know they've done it before, but I'd be surprised if they sacked him with a year to go, given their reasonable form.

Genuinely think only a premiership gets him a new contract. Reckon the club is confident enough in Carr that if the situation arises that we win a premiership and Hinkley decides to walk, we'd be happy enough to just give Carr the job - so waiting until end of the year is a low-risk option.

Having said that, judging by Ken's mood and coaching from the sidelines etc. I get the feeling he knows it's his last year here and will want a sea change regardless of winning a premiership.

You always hear Crows people banging on about how good Hinkey is and we're insane for not signing him up. How many Crows people do you hear saying 'we should go after Ken Hinkley'. None. Crickets. So how good do you really think he is, if you don't want him over your current coach that there's apparently questions around? You don't hear Port people saying 'we should get Nicks'. It's transparent patronising.

At this point there's nothing to suggest Nicks isn't the best going round.

When i suggest the best going around, i mean while there is a coach like Hardwick that may be available, who has premierships to prove he is the best without a club atm.

it's hard to say, maybe the Crows are happy with Nicks or maybe he fills a need to the next guy who knows. As far as untried coaches, it is an unknown quantity until they have coached a team for a season, it's always a chance but you don't know until you try, unlike Port atm with Hinkley they would rather play it safe but we all know that means mediocre.
