Why would it be undeserving if he finally got us there after 11 years of trying?

Luckiest premiership coach would probably be a better description as no one on the planet will ever get his ridiculous length of tenure to get there ever again.

Hinkley should have been sacked years ago. Koch said the other day "Ken deserves a premiership" along with him wanting him to be a 20 year coach. He does not deserve a premiership in any way, shape or form.

Old mate previously liked 240volt’s slab of ‘those are certainly all words’, so I’d say he’s having one of those sarcastic premature jabs at the doubters of the kind we usually see before the annual collapse.
I’m having a jab at the crowd actively wanting us to lose and thinking that Hinkley winning a flag is somehow a bad thing.

Im not happy with how the club has handled the coach’s contracts. He should have never survived 2017. However, we are here now, we are playing good football and the style is the best it’s looked in years.

My stance is, the standard is a GF, nothing less, and we can’t jump the gun too early. But while we are in the position we’re in, he should be given every opportunity to go all the way.

We may fail again. If that’s the case, I hope we haven’t locked him in for a few more years. But not enjoying the wins and the development of our young stars is such a sad pathetic existence.

Was listening to Whately and Bucks today talk about Postacoglou (sic) and talking about how important it was to get the fans on board and all working in the same direction. Comparisons were made with Carlton.

Made me think of Port and all the "white noise" comments.

A new coach who engages the fans and says "we want what you want, let's work out how to get it together" would create such a massive swell of positivity around the place for all parties.

He would be undeserving because such a miniscule amount of a premiership will be down to what he brings to the table. Over 10 years he has proved to be a loser, the only possible way we can win a premiership is to sideline him. What we win is in spite of Hinkley not because of him. If we didn't have a great recruitment department we would have been bottom 4 for the past 7 years

You must be pretty involved at the football club, if you know that we are winning in spite of Hinkley!

I have provided my professional services to both Port Adelaide FC and Adelaide FC so I have some idea although this is some intuition and also listening to some people who would know.

I realise you are personally trolling me for my statement but everyone can have a opinion and in my opinion the Ken father figure thing is somewhat overdone and somehow looks contrived to me.

Maybe not necessarily using that language - the great Wayne Bennett once said if you keep listening to the fans in the stands you end up sitting with them.

Something akin to "we are going give it everything and we ask for all of your support as we go on this journey together."

Dismissing what is a large part of the supporter base as white noise has been one of the worst moves I've seen any executive board at a professional sporting team make in many years with respect to its fan engagement policies.

Literally nobody thinks this, but keep fighting that straw man.

A team’s percentage is a useful but not perfect indicator of a team’s quality. And for a 10-2 team we have an unusually low percentage because a disproportionate share of our wins have been very close and cooks have gone either way.

For comparison I looked at the percentage for every grand final winner since Port entered the comp in 1997.

Only two teams have gone on to win a glad with a lower percentage than we have now - the Tigers in 19 and the Bulldogs in 16.

Two other winners finished on 116%, what we have now - the Roos in 99 and Swans in 2005.

And the only other winner to have a percentage below 120 was the Tigers (again) in 2017.

The median across those 26 seasons is 130.5.

I think that tells us that unless we start winning games by much higher margins we are unlikely to win a premiership, even if our win-loss record remains strong, though it isn’t impossible.

More likely we lose some of the close ones, and struggle in the difficult part of the run-in.

More generally, two of those five low percentage winners were a long time ago (the Roos were far and away the best offensive team and the Swans the best defensively), another (Bulldogs) caught lightning in a bottle (and an armchair ride from the umps), and then there is Richmond, with their unique game style and ability to perform under pressure.

I’m not seeing a lot precedents for Port in 2023.

In these (and the broader historical) circumstances the club would be absolutely mad to reappoint Hinkley till the finals are over.

There is literally no downside to waiting and it only at that point when they will be able to evaluate his performance on the only grounds that matter.

Literally nobody thinks this, but keep fighting that straw man.

It’s always a conflation of extremes or something that needs to be slapped with LACKING CONTEXT in the style of an old Geocities GIF.

Plenty of posters said they wanted us to lose earlier in the season.

Nobody said Hinkley winning a flag is a bad thing.

Actually one guy did, and even the most staunch anti-Hinkleyites slammed him for it.

This is one of the issues at the club since Hinkley and Koch as arrived.

The Port Adelaide Football Club has a set of values codified as the Creed that has held us in good stead and most importantly, worked for us. Those values are simple. We are built to win premierships and give it our all and if the other team on the day is better, so be it. Accountability is key. Clear out the no hopers.

Hinkley and Koch come along and have a different set of values. Finals is enough I guess. We don't have to be accountable.

So we have a large gulf in the traditional values of the club and supporters and the values of Koch and Hinkley.
So their only option is to say that the supporters are wrong. They are white noise.
They do not believe in the Creed and the traditional Port values.
If you understand where both of them come from, it becomes plainly obvious.

This is why a lot of people have fallen out of love with the club but it is just Koch and Hinkley that have destroyed the fabric of the club that was built by the greats of our club. Our club is still there, it is just being borrowed for a short time.

And this is the thing, if you look at this year, those traditional values have started to creep back into the club. Something as simple as the captain not getting a game is a sign of accountability that hasn't been at the club in a decade. Playing Rozee, Butters and Horne-Francis ahead of Wines, the vice-captain and Boak, the former captain in the centre. Plenty of others.

The question is where has their 'newfound' accountable values comes from. I say Josh Carr. He's leading this.

So the $64,000 question which will define Koch's already poor run in admin is who is coach next year?

No.

We want him to (a) win or (b) get sacked.

If Ken can’t achieve (a) then lose properly so that (b) happens. Otherwise we’re just stuck in purgatory.

I want Hinkley to prove me wrong.

Prove me wrong Hinkley.

I've been saying that since 2017.
Ditto. I've been saying for years that I don't believe Hinkley is the coach to take us to a flag but am more than happy to be proven wrong.

Go ahead Donuts, prove me wrong.

To be fair, that's because we weren't a contender, we didn't even appear in the ball park, and what's the point in another mid table finish. We're now sitting 10-2, a few games clear in the 4. We're a contender. Everyone wants us to win from now, but we're all worried about the impact on our club if it is just another tease and Hinkley again doesn't deliver.
