SFNL Div 2 2025

Amendola interesting, has supposedly shopped himself around the last 2 years, has to be a time a club says enough is enough, especially when in a premiership window, with a young team you cant have that from one of your top players, does not set the tone.

You typically resign your existing playing list before recruiting, with my experience in SFNL clubs i think his offer has been there for a while, (squeezed or not, but doubt it, as you budget/resign players before recruiting) his been sitting on it, possibly asking for more, EM not budging or it is purely to play better footy, in there signing post they mentioned he was training at sandringham, they would want him to be playing better footy then div 2 southern. Interesting to see how he levels up to that grade, would be a good benchmark on the quality of div 2 sfnl.
He is only 21 and he finished 4th in League BnF and was in TOTY despite only playing 12 H+A games, also heavily tagged in the GF by ex-VFL Wade Lees and still finished in the Best for the day. Most clubs would had him in the top 2 or 3 players in the comp for the year. I would say he was heavily recruited - so shopping himself around is a bit of stretch, plus all the young guys love a pump up.
By all accounts the culture at EM is great... its more likely sandringham told him he had to play higher level than div 2 southern and De La Salle is just down the road + his cousin is there, so it made sense.

What's interesting is 4 premier young mids (Amendola, Stanton, D. Smith and McCarthy) have all left div 2 southern, perhaps the physicality and the target on their back every week is pushing them out?

I'd say it's probably more clubs are starting to really respect the top end players in div 2, and are more actively poaching them. These players are all going to teams that are higher grades such as Dingley, De La Salle.

If they were going to div 3 EFNL for huge money or whatever then you'd say they may be taking the easy route but I honestly think there's a lot of eyes on div 2 top end players and teams trying to poach them now.

League B&F is decided by umpires so let’s not too much credit on that.

Amendola is a handy player and got huge upside but he wasn’t too 2 or 3 players in the league is pretty outlandish. Deakyn Smith, Sam Michael, Jordan Pollard, John Rafferty, Tom McCartney, Lachie Conboy, Tom Stanton, Ricky Johnson and maybe even Jacob Brunner all better mids .

Deakyn Smith, Sam Michael, Jordan Pollard, John Rafferty, Tom Mac, Lachie Conboy, Harry Lagastes, Tom Stanton, Ricky Johnson and maybe even Jacob Brunner all better mids that’s not including forwards and backs ..

He will not start in-front of Buffallo, Algeri, filapovic, Nicholson, Cameron, O’Meara or Mackie so I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t play a reserve game or two for De La next season unless he can hit the scoreboard abit as a half forward at times .

Jake Calvert just signed at Doveton. In his early to mid 20s he was a star around south east. Last 5 years he's bounced around everywhere, saw him at Olinda and Woori and he's a handy player still. Loves to move around to anyone willing to pay $$

Your not wrong about him bouncing around clubs he’s had around 10 already think it’s 7 in the last 10 years and that includes Covid years I have seen him play more than handy but I wouldn’t say he’s a star last 2 years only been in the best 3Times in 24 games he’s not going to cover the loss of smith he seems to have dropped of a bit since Covid

He’ll replace muirhead and probably be a bit of an upgrade but Will Smith is a big loss and deakyn is close to the best player in all of southern and they were 7 wins, 1 loss with him and 8 wins 6 losses without him.

Yeh I believe there midfield losses will be quote significant. And a few older heads as well in other positions. Will still be a finalist I believe though.

Ye definitely replace Muirhead depending on were they play him I’m not sure on him being a upgrade but Muirhead has been a great player for them b&f winner I think and finished in top 5 in there b&f every year and this year went forward we’re he’d never played before and did really well big surprise him leaving especially with his family being involved there for a long time him and smith are huge losses and have a few others moving on and a few older guys that don’t seem to get through the season without breaking down a lot now but think they will make finals but won’t be anywhere as strong as past years interesting choice having dipper as reserve coach as well good coach and good record but from what i know has caused a few problems at previous clubs he’s been at

interesting attack, replacing youth / middle age with another veteran. It just dosnt work, the only ploy in a older team is to be the bullies.

Yeh I don't think it's a great tactic, but I think it's more of a get who they can to try and replace the quality they've lose. Might also be a financial thing where they can't afford to pay top dollar for another quality player. Could be the reason why they lost those few quality players in the first place

Ye agreed not a great tactic but they have money and i think it might be more they don’t want to pay it even if they are worth it very arrogant club and run by a few certain people that always have a lot to say about who gets paid what if your not in the click they will turn on you easily I think a few get sick of it and move on when better offers come because of that i know a lot of past players that don’t go back there because of this attitude and are life members there and past players and premiership players that won’t go back there before of this attitude and the coach usually dosent get much say there on recruiting players either they still believe there to good for Div 2 and are a div 1 side as they said when they come in they will only be in Div 2 one year to many live in the past years when they had really good sides there
