Who the * is Nick?
Who is Nick? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Nick. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, pooof. He's gone.

Ken was quite unlucky in 2014 and 2020 with his Port sides losing prelims to dynasty Hawks and Tigers sides. Mark Williams coached Port sides in 2002 and 2003 that were easily superior to the Port sides Hinkley coached in 2014 and 2020, yet couldn't get the job done against ordinary Sydney and Collingwood sides in the finals.

Ken may well have been a duel premiership coach if his Port sides got to face teams the calibre of those Sydney and Collingwood sides in the finals. Not sure what happened to Port in the 2021 prelim against the Bulldogs but did gastro go through the club before that game? That result is a real outlier when you compare it to all the other finals showings by Hinkley coached Port sides.

There is a lot of rumour about the happenings of that night but the fanbase is still waiting for an explanation as to why Willem Drew started on the bench that night and Liberatore was able to run free of a tagger.

We were unlucky v Richmond because of the free kick that cost us the game but you could say we were lucky it rained because our record against Top 8 teams over that period was deplorable and maybe that equalised the game.

I don't believe that the 2001-04 team was any better it was just a young team that learnt from some losses and ended up winning a premiership. If we were to win the premiership this year this team will be looked at just as favourably. Hinkley isn't fit to tie Chocko's shoelaces as a coach and if Chocko had the same resources as Hinkley he would have never been sacked in the first place.

"The Geelong Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria, Australia. It is widely regarded as the highest standard Australian rules football league in regional Victoria, with several former AFL players now playing for a variety of clubs."

Meanwhile Donuts has two assistant coaches that have coached teams to flags in the SNAFL, the second best Australian Rules football competition in the known universe.

I love this argument. It’s somewhat true, so I won’t refute it.

My main issue with it is that it simply ignores the FIVE YEARS in between those seasons. You know, those FIVE YEARS with a 0-1 Finals record and an abysmal win% against Top-4 sides.

Hinkley shouldn’t be unlucky in 2020 because he shouldn’t be here in 2020.

And if he had wheels he would have been a bicycle

Hardwick went 7 years with a 0-3 record in finals.

Yes. Starting from scratch. And how was he in year 11?

Hinkley lead a good list to great results in his first two seasons. And then nothing…

Hinkley has been here for 11 years. To match Damien Hardwick's record at the same point of his career he'll need to win three premierships this year.

Hardwick took a perennial loser club to consecutive Finals. He couldn’t win, though, and, after the first year missing Finals, the Tigers got ready to put a rocket in his arse and fire him towards the moon.

Hardwick knew it was his last chance, made changes in the offseason, and ended up building a dinasty.

Hinkley never felt the heat at Alberton; never thought he needed to change.

It was only in YEAR ELEVEN that an outsider, a club legend, already during the season, decided to finally step up and call a spade as spade. Out of a sudden, everything is different.

Sounds like Luke Beveridge who's first two seasons at the Bulldogs produced fantastic results and lots of frustrating results since.
Port's 2013 was Bulldogs 2015 and Port's 2014 should have been Bulldogs 2016.

However the Bulldogs got lucky by being able to pinch a flag in the gap year between the Hawthorn and Richmond dynasty teams. Port under Hinkley had no such luck.
Premiership coaches won premierships therefore Sign Hinkley.

You do realise there's a large element of luck when it comes to coaching don't you? Paul Roos and Ross Lyon have very similar coaching records and coaching styles, yet one has a flag and the other doesn't.
Leo Barry's mark and Matthew Scarlett's toe poke could easily have gone the other way and both were completely out of the coach's control.

Beveridge had that element of luck go his way and Hinkley didn't. Simple.

It's not luck when it happens repeatedly.

It wasn't luck when Hardwick lost 3 elimination finals, just like it wasn't luck when he won 3 premierships.

It's not luck that Lyon continually has teams kick 8 goals in grand finals and falls just short every time.

It's not luck that Hinkley always loses prelims.

Yes. And it makes all the difference.
