Need to make it that the sub cannot play next week.Unpopular I know, but stops gaming the system.
I would have thought that was a no brainer and the easiest way to stop it being rorted when they introduced the sub again

I declared the flags months ago mate.

Hard to see how cats don’t finish top 2 now. Game and %. And good other top 4 all drop at least 1 game each from here. Cats can lose 1 for sure. Maybe even lose 2 of 4 (which they shouldn’t) and still finish top 2

so no history says it is about being in form, not injured (And for Geelong age fresh) over next month leading into finals. Good place to be

I only have eyes for that game

We have breathing space now though melbournes loss means we can afford to drop one of the last 4 and still get top spot. Would like to win all 4 though.

They were going to do that like the concussion but then relented and let club doctors decide.

Needed the midfield to stand up in the last and led by Axe, stand up they did.

As for those knocking Neale, when a ruck wins the knock comprehensively to our advantage, at some point you rely on your mids to do something. Neale did a lot right in his short amount of game time.

I don't think anyone could knock Neale for his effort. He isn't really a ruckman, and inspite of that his tapwork was ok- problem is he didn't really know where to hit it- he made contact just fine. Got pantsed in the 3rd quarter but tightened it up in the 4th. Solid gold experience. Same for SDK. Got beaten tonight, but something he needs to have happen to improve.

Fantastic game- Also should have been a three goal win given Danger had one stolen off him. Was also the first game when I thought we really missed Stewart- Aleer was excellent and really highlighted what we are missing with him out. Rohan did a great job on his as well though-Played a defensive forward role on him some of the time, and also kept him totally clear of JC and Hawk for the whole game.

forgot about him - I think he might struggle to push his way back in. Which is amazing to think about.

Stewart for sure in. Parf I reckon is also in ahead of Gola? So I think Miers is already out along with a MOC/Zuthrie (which is stiff for all 3 of those). So for Gola to get back in you need to find me one more out? If miers out no one from the forward line is out…if Danger/Selwood stay (which they will for finals) then don’t think a midfielder (or wing: Smith/Holmes stay) come out…So left with the back? Already taken one of MOC/Zuthie out so are they really going to take a Kolo out (or both MOC/Zuthrie) for Gola? Maybe they will?

Nice problem to have

Of course chances are there will be one or two injured which makes selection easier at the end (but winning premiership harder)

Stewart for zuthrie
Parf for moc
Menegola for Miers (unlucky)
Then obviously ceglar if stanley was injured.

Is what i expect to see.

Neale hasnt been rucking in the vfl with our other rucks there. Considering that he did ok. Just highlights how important it is to have ceglar as backup for stanley neale is just a kid still who has barely played a season of vfl he is tracking well for his age. But cegs will get the gig in finals if anything happens to stanley.

This was my understanding- He has done a bit of part time ruckwork in the VFL but his understanding of the systems we use in the team would be pretty low im betting- would have been a much more honest showing if he was playing as a KPF. Given that, he did a decent job IMO.

That was a pleasing, sturdy performance. I can forgive the 3rd quarter in a win like that. We are showing ourselves capable of withstanding an opposition run and getting on top when it counts.

Although Hawk ended up with 4 and Cameron 3, I thought the game was really setup from the back half in the 2nd quarter. The way we are moving the ball from back there after an intercept is a thing of beauty.

The midfield was a strange performance for us. We dominated the ruck and shaded them in clearances but the long period during the third quarter where Guthrie, Dangerfield, Selwood and Atkins had virtually no influence. Port really got on top and I kept waiting for one of ours to step up but it never happened. Quite disappointing at the time.

Speaking of the ruck, I was quite pleased with Neale‘s effort first time out at the level in that role. Nothing I’d seen at VFL level suggested this was going to be easy for him but he competed really well, got first hands to the ball and, if our midfield had been more switched on in the third, would have been viewed as an influential period for him. The goal Dixon created in D50 was a learning experience for him, you could see it on his face. He got quieter as the game went on but overall I’d give it a pass mark. Handy to have someone who is clearly more suited to a key forward role show that he has some future in the ruck when we need it.

And speaking of young talls, that was probably the first time I felt Sam De Koning got beaten for a whole game. Still some nice glimpses from him but he was really challenged by Dixon’s bigger frame. Nothing at all to worry about and as with Neale, a learning experience.

It’s all been said already about Close and Atkins but my word we are lucky* to have them. I heard Scott speaking of the team being misfits during the week - the Steeplechaser, the two Irishmen, the St Mary’s rookie, etc. - well these two fit that mould really well. It’s quite a list management miracle that we keep managing to unearth players from odd places and they perform to such a level.

Onwards toward the Minor Premiership.
