AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
he was probably waiting in line to be diagnosed for days. Physio is too busySo you're telling me the Eagles have known about it all week and he wasn't in the injury list on Tuesday?
Harry Edwards now injured with a groin.
Might have been a polite way of saying ‘omitted’.That's his 3rd injury this season and it's still only May. Dud player and made out of marshmellow.
Started life as a rooky pick. Doesnt seem to be quite there for AFLMight have been a polite way of saying ‘omitted’.

He may be not up to grade, but he's not 20 goals against the bottom placed side bad.Thank * xon is out.
Very light session this morning with only 13 players doing the usual walk/jog lap warm up to begin with whilst the WAFL 9 from yesterday just walked laps
Other players wandered out intermittently as the session progressed but they largely stayed at the far end of the ground so were hard to pick up - especially since many of them were wearing big freeze beanies
Things of some note -
• Sheed didn’t do laps but was involved in some later drills and showed no signs of favouring his injured leg/ankle
• McGovern did the initial laps. Looked untroubled, albeit at a modest pace, and just as trim as he did pre-injury. Don’t think he’s far off - Adelaide game maybe a chance
• SPS joined the lap brigade halfway through, did the drills and a small amount of fitness work at the end. Like Gov doesn’t look far off a return
• Shuey was an observer only restricted to doing some handball stuff
• Burgiel looked a bit bigger in the upper arms/shoulders than I recall from earlier in the season
That’s about it
The West reported Barrass did a lot of set-shot work?
Less than ideal for Jones and the Eagles although it might open up another spot on the MSD.
Didn’t he get injured in Launceston last week?Yet another very long term lower leg/ankle injury.
I don't know how it compares to other clubs or if it's just confirmation bias, but it sure seems like we've had a heap of them since relocating to MRP.
Didn’t he get injured in Launceston last week?
Well I guess we would need some sort of data or facts. I am guess ing by sub-optimal you mean harder - which is measurable.Indeed. But my pet theory for a causal link between MRP/Optus and lower leg injuries is that training and playing on sub-optimal surfaces is making our players more susceptible to lower leg injuries.
Essentially there's sustained stress on ligaments, muscles, bones, which accumulates until serious injury occurs.
But unlike some of the more esteemed doctor scientist geniuses on here, I'm just guessing.
Didn't someone in this very thread say this too?As an aside, iirc someone mentioned on a podcast recently that West Coast flew in a fancy turf specialist from the east coast for Lathlain. Whereas Freo and I believe OS went local.
The assertion was that our guy maybe wasn't as familiar with WA conditions.
I thought that was the most compelling evidence I've heard for our training facilities being a unique factor in our crisis.
Didn't someone in this very thread say this too?
Or more likely Ishmael_ is misremembering the whole podcast thing and just read it in this thread?
For what it's worth a quick google found me some studies showing a causal link between playing on astroturf and an increase in lower leg injuries (US obviously), so it's not crazy to think playing and training on harder surfaces would have similar results.
Plus the astroturf we have in the big indoor training shed. But I don't recall clusters of injuries in 2019?
