Shattering

Tragic for the young bloke, but life goes on. Be strong.

I am in for new knees soon, getting a picture of the rehab effort required. I am sure the club will be behind him. He seems to have the required discipline and motivation.

I understand the on the spot test is mostly correct and pretty simple.

I was at the game yesterday and felt far worse about the Culley injury than I did when we inevitably fell away :(

As I said on the culley thread

He's shown with his hard work and determination I would almost lock him in for a round 1 comeback.

Sucks but he'll be OK.

As someone else mentioned he's not an explosive player so his knees aren't as important as say a Judd

Kid just can't catch a break. I hope the club gives him a contract extension so he can just focus on his recovery and get himself right for next year.
Now we have at least 1 spot for the MSD confirmed as well.

Just a wretched year.

Bluddy Hell. Feel for the kid.

I believe he is out of contract? Best thing we could do is offer him a spot on the 2024 rookie list with a 'get better, play, get upgraded' plan.

So, how many can we take in the MSD? How many will we take in the MSD?
No shortage of players we can LTI. Culley, Ryan, Cole, Cripps effectively out for the season. NicNat and Gov just a short extension away.

The bad takes on this thread are getting further and further down the Fold The Club scale of melts it’s kinda sad

Now I’m no biomechanical expert, but the thought process that the S+C team are to blame for this injury seems exceptionally loose to say the least.

There is SOME new (2019) thought that an ACL can be fueled by gradual micro tears of the ligament, as opposed to the singular tearing action that is the traditional line of thought but this is not gospel yet.

Having seen it, it just looked like a sharp action and it went. Anyone screaming from the rooftop without any PROOF that this is Koefed and co’s fault can GAGF. Take that kool aid and drink it somewhere else.

ACLs are a part of the game and always have been. We can piss all over the team for some of their shithouse management - but this? No. Not having it.

Footy genuinely doesn’t feel fun these days. Can manage the heavy losses but the injuries and these sorta injuries to the kids really feel like a gut punch
Yeah I think this is the main issue. No one likes losing but you can cop it when you know there’s kids out there developing and seeing the little wins. When we’re just trotting out a WAFL team every week where half of them have no future at AFL (as well as the other half that will retire within 3 years) it is quite depressing.

None of these guys are out there learning how to play. Another wasted year down the tube and the only thing it’s good for now is the draft hand so we better make damn certain we come last. Can’t be having an all time year like this to not walk away with the best 18 year old in the country

Why do they always tell us that they’re awaiting scans even if it’s a Tuesday. When they can reveal Culleys results the next day.

It’s obvious PR and I’m sick of it.

Well I remember the other week when Cole did his ankle simmo in his presser got asked if he had his scans yet and he said something along the line of the guy that does them is on annual leave for the next week which I thought was odd, surely they would have other contacts that could do it.

Do they need to wait for swelling to go down for some injuries?

To get an accurate scan, yes. Injuries that have higher rates of swelling are harder to scan. IE when I destroyed my syndesmosis last year and went for initial xrays it was all so swollen they couldn't really tell anything other than they 'suspected' CT scan 3 days later showed the ruptured sydnesmosis as well as other damage and the MRI the week after that showed a break in the lower part of the fibula near the ankle. As it hadn't been displaced in the original accident with all the swelling it was almost impossible to detect.

Now everything is fixed from, muscle, tendon and ligmaent wise my body is rejecting the metal implants and I am being booked for surgery to remove all the metalwork. The longer its in the more imflammation and pain i'm getting. But then again I am old and have a lot of prior injuries so my ankles, knees, lower back and neck are all a bit of a mess.

Yep I honestly can't think of one thing I like about watching us at the moment.

The games are depressingly predictable, every week there's the early attempt to be competitive, the quarter where the opposition engages and we get completely obliterated and then some more non descript football followed by the late game obliteration once non fit players and kids run out of legs. Every week the opposition's best players do as they please, and we get to see 4-5 guys who are plainly never ever going to be AFL standard flounder around way out of their depth, and 4-5 senior guys who are plainly carrying injuries or horribly out of form but getting a game because there's noone else.

Even this week the only thing which changed is Richmond were horrendously inaccurate in the second term when they were monstering us- they were clearly on top throughout and once Bolton and Martin got tired of messing about they destroyed us.

In this sort of situation pretty much the only thing which gives fans pleasure is seeing kids show promise but even that is totally joyless now, our promising kids are either injured or plainly copping too heavy a load because the injury list means they can't be rested, and some of the others who are getting games (XON, Trew, Clark).are just utterly non descript nothing players who plainly will never amount to anything. Watching Ginbey show initial flashes of brilliance and then have his form go south as the club flogs him with minutes well beyond anything a first year should get is incredibly depressing- i feel like the club is pretty much walking him into a OP or hamstring injury by playing him way beyond what is sensible or desirable.

I honestly don't know what to say at this point. Its just become a complete chore and not remotely fun. And if that's how fans feel **** knows how the players are coping.

Agree with all you are saying here.

And what they are doing just creates more injuries and long term problems.

My only suggestion to the club would be to be ruthless in selection.
If someone is a mature age player coming back from injury there is every chance they can cope with 'straight into the team' if it hasn't been too long (and injury type etc.).
But young guys, it should be...
1. you're beaten up, you need a rest.
2. You're coming back from injury; you need managed WAFL minutes then a full WAFL game or two.
3. Young guys need travel management. If in doubt, stay at home and WAFL or rest.

If a guy isn't close to fully fit they shouldn't be travelled/played as it just WILL injure them.

If we end up with 15 properly fit players and a bunch of WAFL topups, so be it.

It will never get better if we keep playing under-done guys to the point of breaking them.
