Man, that is absolutely devastating news for Hewy.

Imagine spending 8-10 months trying to recover from a chronic foot injury, suffering constant setbacks, even flying to Melbourne to do ballet exercises, then eventually undergoing surgery and taking 3 months to recover from that.

All that time he’d be looking forward to getting out on the field for the back end of the season, using that as motivation to get through the rehab. Then you get within a week of that recovery finally being over, and bam - your foot pulls up sore and that goal you’ve been working towards is taken away from you just like that.

It is only footy in the end but this would be gutting for him. Seems like the type of guy who’s desperate to get out there and be a part of the team, and now he’ll have to wait another 8 months until he’s back out there.

If he does take the field in Round 1 next year it’ll be around 570 days between games for him. A long and testing wait but hopefully he can take a bit out of this experience.

Absolutely
Feel for Hewett...only hope its a minor stress fracture and not something like a navicular or whatever Cavka had.
If he's off legs for 2-3 weeks and can slowly build after that at least he'll feel that he can come back pre-season cherry ripe

Sheesh, imagine if Hewetts career gets totally derailed/ruined and we ended up splitting pick 2 for literally Ginbey over Sheezal.

True but if we do choose Sheezel then he'll want to fu*k off back to Victoria at the end of the year and if he nominates Norf AND Norf finish below us then we're certainly getting shafted as they can use the PSD threat against us.

He may not even be the player he is now due to not being mentally ready to move interstate let alone going relocating to Perth like what happened with Fischer McAsey who struggled mentally moving to Adelaide (certainly won't be a bust like with McAsey but he'll be an above average player who wouldn't reach his full potential at West Coast but at a Victorian team since he'll be mentally happy to be home and he'll have a clear mindset now that he's home). Imagine what moving to Perth will do to Sheezel's mental state if McAsey only moved to a state next door affected him hard.

Hopefully that we let Hewett's foot heal and we park him for the rest of the year so he'll be ready and pray that he's injury free. Once he's fully ready then he can do a Waterman style pre season and work harder than everyone and hope he remains durable. As someone mentioned, Shuey hardly played his first two seasons and look how he went.

Hopefully Oscar is in his ear. Perfect example of a young player who missed an entire season with a foot injury, came back the next year and dominated.

yeah the concerning thing is why is his foot showing a stress fracture from just training? I fear for the guy, just hope he doesnt have chronic foot problems

We picked Venables over Spp and Venables career cut short by concussion.
you can't predict what will happen after a player is drafted.
We all are gung ho about Harley but if he came down with a serious injury we may well be saying why
didn't we take all those picks for Harley
If Hewett can get his body right we may welll say what a great trade it was to get two players for one.

He's like 20, it's not the end of the world

May make him a better player

Unfortunately its not that simple.

3 examples of sesamoiditis surgery in AFL are Travis Colyer, Finn Callaghan and Matt Scharenberg (thats it ever). Colyer had a career but Scharenberg basically had this end his career before it began. Callaghan looking good and hopefully the way it goes

People pretending like he would come back all hunky dory I think when it just isnt that simple....:(

lol yes Scharenberg’s career was 100% ruined by his sesamoid surgery.

Not his 3 separate ACLs

brilliant mind

Finn Callaghan also had sesamoiditis surgery and seems to be doing pretty well

His treatment, including a visit to the ballet specialist Hewett saw, was very similar to what Hewett did

Yep was about to edit it.

A few people did avoid surgery also by the looks of it in Jack Steven and Kayne Turner too.

Well you can lie about what I said or can look at what I said

It had a impact down of course.... just like Hewett has a new injury that isnt sesamoiditis but something different... It didnt cause him to retire but he didnt exactly come back and play after it either.

Think of it this way.

He was meant to return to WAFL this week, probably 1 or 2 in the WAFL then say 4 or 5 AFL.

At worst he's gonna miss 4-5 games then fresh pre season.

So it's a 4-5 week injury at this stage

And did Hird also have it or was it something else?

If you look at Travis Colyer though he had multiple foot surgeries in his career. Can count 3 in 2015,18,19 and then had 2 lots of knee surgery at Freo in 2023 and 2021 so he didnt have best recovery either

Callaghan is one to watch being ahead of Hewett

Navicular injury which is slightly different but not by that much and took him 6 years to get back to full recovery according to him. Had 3 surgeries and not 1

Mate a navicular injury is totally different to sesamoiditis don’t mind your different views that are opinions but this statement is total bullshit and makes it clear you’ve got no medical background or basis to make this statement.

You’re comparing damage to the keystone of an arch vs a pebble that fits in it.
