Everybody says Roo.
Magnificent player as we all know. But does that automatically make him a good coach?
A couple of times a week in an advisory capacity for the forwards maybe, but let’s not get carried away with the fact that because he’s a legend he can/ or would want to coach. He spends a fair amount of time in the States anyway.
Yep he enjoys being on best on ground and all his media stuff. Gets paid well there and loves taking time off to go to the US. Why would he want to coach here?

I dont like the idea of Gallagher moving away from Melbourne and doing his job from Adelaide, but I dont see why Jason Cripps is seen as the List Manager saviour?

Port havent won a flag in his time there, and TBH his approach as a List Manager doesnt appear that different to Gallagher's. He has and Port have traded away early picks to remain relevant and yes he has had some hits but a lot of misses aswell.

It wasnt Gallagher's fault that we couldnt attract De Goey or other fringe players to the club during the trade period. Ratten got the sack for a reason and I believe this is one of his leading short comings.

To me the List Manager role is only as good as the club resources, the coaching structures and how the club is perceived in the industry. Gallagher is just coming into his own IMO and move him on now when there is finally some light in our recruiting etc is self defeating.

So unless the review has found issues with Gaggs I for one would love for him to remain!
Port have been able to build a quality core if young players while mostly finishing high on the ladder which I think is pretty impressive.

Rozee, JHF, Butters, Marshall, Georgiades, Houstan etc

They have traded out some good picks to bring players in but they have also made some tough decisions about trading players out to move up in the draft and get quality kids.

We probably thought we were a bit closer than what we actually were and missed the boat on trading a few players while they had currency.

Just a few things from the past dozen pages or so.

In my opinion, a big part of it is those losses this year. Essington for example. The effort just was not there. But it was terribly similar to the losses we had in 2021 which were just plain unacceptable. Having that shyte carry over two seasons was somewhat alarming. Despite our ladder position you could tell we were still the same old flakes.

If the Fox family are finally tipping in then Bassett should be absolutely commended. I reckon almost every administration in my life time has tried to get them on board without success.

While this situation looks messy, it must be the right thing to have done. If we continued on this road for two more years and then changed, we would have the Tassie side coming in and we are stumbling through a few more years of comprimised drafts. Hawthorn had their "dynasty" on the back of comprimised drafts...

It would actually help him in conjunction with his media job I reckon by getting a good insight into the modern club and players. Finger in the pulse so to speak.

I just hope we've done proper DD on what happened between Ross and the female staff member at Freo who was paid out by the AFL.

Between Ross, Lethlean, and JDG it's like we're trying to collect all the industry's sex offenders.
It's pretty common knowledge. There's an article about it that explains what happened.

Lethlean had a consensual affair with a co worker, hardly a sex offender.
DeGoeys was dismissed and found non factual
And who knows about Lyon, but noting has happened.....

Yeah that's my concern. The AFL Integrity Unit made a finding of no fault or some similar language but findings from AFL investigations are about as rock solid as water.

I just hope we're asking around and making sure its not going to blow up in our face the moment we sign him like Jake Carlisle.

When he went for the Carlton job it was brought up almost immediately so at minimum we need to be prepared for the conversation.

Gaggs seems to be able to pluck the bargains out of S.A. For mine that's been his best achievement so far. Helps attracting guys like Crouch and Howard too.

Uhh, the process would be the succession plan wouldn't it...
No matter how you cut it, it means that the coach after Lyon (ie when Lyon goes "tips up") will ascend to the head coach role at a future date without a process. Who says that this person will be the best candidate at that hypothetical time? Its hard enough to appoint the right coach for the now, let alone to simultaneously select the right coach in waiting - who is going to take over at some unknown "**** up" point of time.... all justified by tHe pROcEsS

If Luff came in and said "the list is better than what you're getting out of it" I don't get why Gags would be on the chopping block. But if he wants to move back to SA then maybe he will be on a reduced role and we are looking for a new head of list management.
And people are telling us Ross doesn't mind what he's put together in a few years with little currency as well......

List looks pretty settled. Our core is at the right age bracket & there’s a few younger guys coming through that have improvement in them. To take the next step we need RTB to turn a few of our A/B- players into stars. King, Gresh, Steele…Higgins, Clark, Coffield, Wind, Owens, NAS have a lot of upside. The question is can anyone of them level up to elite?

With Ryder, Gears & Hanners retiring I wonder where our age demographic currently sits?
