it bugs me that everyone was so hating Ross, and now people are wanting him back. Yet, he has not coached in 3 years. his last stint, he did exactly what he did at the saints ,had not learnt anything. the main 30 loved him, the rest on the fringes hated him.

WOW, look at what he did with the Saints. Finals in every year except for the first.

Went to Freemantle took them to the Grand Final, which no-one had ever thought imaginable.

Handed over to Justin Longmuir with a decent team, who have maintained a record of over 50% and now playing finals.

Our problem was not Ross Lyon, it was the muppets in charge who stalled on RTB then sent us to Seaford, installed Trout.. Watters etc who salted the earth and tried to denounce any of Lyons legacy.

At the start he mentions a phone call and then chatter amongst ex players and Ross not replying to text

Then he talks about 6 weeks ago a phone Ross never expected to receive and then tries to say - well I don’t know about a phone call

I find it really interesting how most of the players of that era speak so highly of him.
Drove them all pretty damn hard and in hindsight they all appreciate it.

what bugs me is having a team that shows up for a few weeks, is out for lunch for the next month. A team with a significant dearth of leadership. A team that is still trying to encourage their players to share critical feedback without worrying that someone's feelings are going to be hurt - three years into the head coach's job. A team that has won one final in ten years.

But yes, it's the fringe players we should be worried about. Fringe players have always had issues with coaches. Luke Dunstan ring a bell?

Weird that some people think we treated Ratts poorly. We gave the man an extension ffs, if anything we did him a favour! Maybe by re-signing him we held him back from applying for the Roos and Bombers jobs, but I doubt that. Things can change. If Buckley does want to coach again, how long does he stay out ? Anyway ..... happy for you to point me in the
direction of a few Buckley quotes where he rules himself out. I think he did say he wasn't interested in North maybe ?

I think I've mistaken a screen shot I saw as Gospel as I can't seem to find it anymore. In any case, whilst I think the writing is on the wall re: Lyon, I don't think anyone (Buckley or Pyke) has been counted out from a Club perspective.

The word cruel is completely overused by the media so that it has no effect. This decision is not an act of cruelty to Brett Ratten, completely poor use of the word.

Jesus so cruel, he was probably on 500k a year, 250k payout is not cruel. These clowns like Kornes should get out of their bubble and live in the real world, where you get 4 weeks notice and maybe a 20k payout. I have been at my organisation for 18 years and would get less than Ratten if made redundant.

RTB brings back hope to the club when it had little going forwatd with Ratten...good bloke that he is.

RTB is a hard edged mofo.
His messages are simple.
He is consistent with these messages.
He is the best match day coach we probably ever had.
He knows what it takes to win.

But more importantly the top tier players of that side love him. Says it all.

Current players will know what to expect, the team not negotiables and also he brings a reputation for performance ahead of excuses....something that has been missing at various times for a few years.

As General Paton said and I am taking a few liberties here The players need the confidence to stop fearing the Germans just hope they never lose the fear of me.

Whilst the players fear RTB more than the outside noise (remember the bubble) we will be competitive in more games, more accountable to each other, have no percentage game blowouts and go a long way to creating a sustainable club with a consistent message and performance.

For that reason RTB gets my vote rather than a newbie coach as we need to set standards and structures straight away RTB can do that other candidates will take 2 years at a risk that they may be another Scott F**King Watters.

Why I reckon our list is okay and we almost played in a Prelim two years ago with the same list.

RTB will attract players as free agents who want to win no other reason. He has that aura.

Hird Pyke Buckley not in the same postcode as RTB.

To be fair we all knew Kingsley had a clue because he used to sit in the box arguing with Richo all game.
It's a pity the club didn't work out which one of them was right earlier.

I remember hearing Dimma had kicked him out of one of the Tigers strategy meetings because he wanted to put Dylan Grimes on the wing. I think Kingsley is probably a good coach, but what can you do with the development the Saints have had over the last decade?

Luke Dunstan looked like he was going to be an elite goal kicking mid/forward and then he just... stalled.

Acres showed flashes here and there but he was never going to be a talent playing as a ****ing ruckman.

Billings and Gresh do their best work in the forward line but we insist on playing them in the midfield.

Brad Hill's best work is wing/hff, working into defence and losing his man on the way back. We stuck him in defence so he could get cheap kicks and kickouts.

Dougal Howard's an ELITE CHB. He has the speed and timing to be peeling off his man to defend the space inside 50 and using his booming kick to drive deep inside 50. We anchor him on the last line and ask him to wrestle gorillas.

Tim Membrey is a great set shot for goal. We have him racking up touches 70m out where his 'stand and deliver' type marking is nullified.

Max King is an aerobic beast. We leave him 3 on 1 deep inside 50 and ask him to take 10 contested marks a game for his goals. GET HIM UP THE GROUND!

RoMa has always been a #1 ruck. 2019 he was ready. Ryder's arrival was great short term but stalled Marshall's development big time. SHould have been RoMa #1 ruck with Ryder forward and pinch hitting.

I won't even start on the #26

Doesn't matter how good the next coach is if the development of these players is botched season after season.
