My Mum's an Essendon supporter and I used to go with her to games each week. Right until WADA come in over the top and it just got way too toxic to try and converse with people. But up until that point going into those games was a different vibe. No matter how good/bad they were they expected to win. The demanded excellence. They would rip into anyone that looked sub-par.
We never had that. Even in 04/05 and 09/10 our club never has that confidence/arrogance. We are always waiting for something to go wrong. We almost will it into existence.

I've lamented the plight of smaller VIC clubs and their inability to attract stars in trade of FA. Lyon can build a culture that changes that. Tell me we can't get 100k members between Acland Street and Arthur's Seat!
St Kilda CAN be a juggernaut. It's not a pipe dream if we have ruthless people in charge who will kick anyone underperforming to the curb. The Matt Finnis "Nice Guy" era is done. Time to get great and stay there. It's not about the next flag. It's about the next 20+ years.
I DGAF if any of these guys make their bed!

I actually think the whole media group is pissed about this... Normally a coach isn't sacked without months of pressure from Purple and co... I think they are trying to make up for all the negative stories they missed out on, and now their being supppppper critical of the "shock" decision!!! Sorry media boys and girls, this was preventative surgery... You fix the engine gasket when the muffler starts puffing white smoke in early acceleration, not when the gasket fails.
I never hated Ross.
Ive always wanted him back.
Cheered hard for Freo in 13. Thought it was a travesty he wasn't a premiership coach.
Ive never blamed him for our decline.
I hated him.
But in the way I hate my hot crazy ex girlfriend who I would love to hang out with again.

But that’s more out of jealousy he was there and we propped up the ladder.
As much as I hate Hawthorn (which is a lot), I was happy freo lost that GF. I couldn't stand to hear how Ross did it with Freo but not with us, even though (IMO) our side was way better.
I didn't, at all.
Freo became my 2nd favourite team when he was there because of how I felt about Ross. Was gutted when they lost... purely for Ross.
I know he's not perfect, but I don't think ive ever said a bad word about him. Felt nothing but grateful for his time at our club.
Mid '21 I said here I'd love to see Ratten gone and Ross brought back. I'm actually in shock it might happen. Thought there was no chance.
yes it could be construed as that. I think there is excitement due to us being moribund for a decade and we all remember the days of going to the football KNOWING we could beat anybody, and usually did.
The extreme heartbreak of the two GF losses and the even more heartbreak of the draw are receeding a little.
But what us tragics can see is finally a bit of hope. The admin seems to be full of brutal ruthless bastards wanting to drag us out of irrelevance. What Walsh said was spot on we are irrelevant and a nothing team and organisation.
Speaking of Walsh, getting him on board to oversee Rath and Gallagher (whom I still see as valuable operators) is a good thing. If we say that we need a quality forward assistant coach to help out Rosses weakeness, we can't not afford thoe two the same opportunity, after all Basset was up front in saying we hadn't done that, yes referencing Ratten, but it goes for the whole organisation.
So yes the messiah complex runs deep in an unsuccessful club like the Saints. I have drunk the kool aide I have to admit. But rationally thinking it is because I believe our list is pretty good, not a gf winning team, but one that certainly is capable of finals.
So yes I am relieved, impressed (by the clubs actions and admissions of failure) and excited by once again having some hope where there was none for me, however I don't expect miracles, but I feel we have a direction, not rudderless and going forward toward a n eventual tilt.

That’s a good attitude. I hated him until somebody in AFL coaching told me how it all really works and that we left him high and dry. By that time I was living in Perth and was too far invested in my Dockers hatred to change
Same, I felt like a jilted lover, but now he has come back all is forgiven. **** I am sounding like Freo Doker.

I think the only time I went into games feeling that confident was when we smashed Carlton and West Coast back to back at Marvel one year.
Otherwise it's just "I hope player X doesn't **** up." or "I hope player Y can kick straight" or "I hope player Z can hold his man."
**** hoping. Let's KNOW it's going to happen and hold people to that standard if they dont.

Thanks for your kind words mate. Like many else, feel like the club is finally making hard calls to take us forward so I've come back to the saints board the last few weeks. Bloody stoked to see 95% of us getting along and excited.
