A lot of Geelong fans wanted Chris Scott gone recently because he couldn't get past the prelims. If you get top 4 and deep into finals you buy yourself tickets in the lottery. Sometimes your numbers don't come up but if you don't even get there you have zero chance.

I think the standards that he sets and the leadership that he'll instil will work regardless. He'll make them into an organised, well drilled side. Something everyone would agree is something that has allowed Sydney and Geelong to defy the equalisation measures because with well defined roles and standards you can beat sides with more talent and less focus regularly.
I think you are underselling the input of Steve Hocking

Steve Hocking had heard all the talk when he arrived to replace veteran CEO Brian Cook, who had been at the club for 23 years, at the end of last year.

He knew the lay of the land and set about a “big reset” of the club he used to play for. Included in that was some strong heart-to-heart conversations with Scott with the mutual respect between the pair meaning it was anything but lip service.

But there was more things at play behind-the-scenes with Hocking taking a big stick to the football department changing 16 of the 34 positions.

Saints in 2009, 12 games over 100 points, our best game we kicked 25.11 161 against a good West Coast side, this year we had 2 games where we kicked over 100 points, the best being against the Tigers 18.9 117.

If we scored like the 2009 Ross Lyon Saints we'd be one of the highest scoring sides in the AFL now days.
That's true but I think people are forgetting how the game is played these days. We were ultra defensive in 2009 but could still score. That wouldn't happen these days, you'd be lucky to kick 15 goals a game with how defensive the game has become.

Again - I don't expect Ross Lyon to coach us to a flag but it's not "Flag or Bust" for the club right now.

There is a massive shift that needs to happen in the culture of the club, the people working there, the volunteers and the supporter base. This is about getting the St Kilda Football Club to an elite level. About setting standards for players, admin, etc for the long term.

Week to week results aren't relevant. Month to month results aren't relevant.

If people ring up SEN every day sooking and moaning because we lose to ****ing Essendon in or something in round 1 then they are totally missing the point. These are the people the chuck on a 15 leg multi and then feel good when they hit 12 of them.

YOU STILL LOST!

We need to think bigger than that.

We are gonna start putting $100 a week into the stock market. There WILL be dips but we aren't going to panic sell. We are also going to sit tight on the 'hot stock' and avoid shipping everything into #gamestonk to get rich quick.

We are going to build wealth, reinvest our dividends, and enjoy knowing we are growing and getting better no matter what the rest of the traders are up to.

Seems like the review found that the best candidate was Ross and we've head-hunted him. Doesn't seem like we've even spoken to anyone else.

A bit concerning on face value, hopefully the club did reach out to those with similar characteristics over the last few weeks.

I just realised, I think she means Jesse Smith from North. Ross brought him in hoping to put him back together. I used to have a contact at North. They thought he could be one of the best players in the AFL if not for injury and were devastated to lose him. He was a waste of a pick but it wasn't like complete stab in the dark.
yes thanks for that.

Shouting her down isn't going to bring her around. She has the right to not like the appointment and express her opinion. If it goes well I'm sure she'll jump on board quickly. Samm's a good poster and loyal Saint.
thanks, appreciate the words. you are right. if he is appointed i won't like. if it happens, i will eventually have to come on board. i rarely i express my opinions on hear. please all, don't shout me down, as i rarely express my opinions about something so emphatically. Thanks in advance.:):D

Hope the club takes note of all those who won’t renew their memberships solely because of Ross Lyon and puts them firmly at the end of the line for Grand Finals tickets.
at least i haven't said that. lol

Of course we went negative.

Roo kicked 78 in 09
Kosi 48
Milney 46
Schneids 34

Total team: 352

We lost Rooey for 15 weeks in 2010.

Milney 57
Rooey 39
Schneider 39
Kosi 30

Total team:326

keep in mind that Rooey at this point was in his pomp. Took 2 to minimise his impact. Which was still huge.

Allowed Kosi to get off the leash.

It isn’t as simple as we were s**t offensively. We lost the key component to the forward set up.

It would be like losing Max now.
True but It’s also not as simple as we merely lost Roo either. We had an undeniably negative game plan. That’s not to say it’s right or wrong, it just was.

2011 probably tells some of the story as well, albeit mentally shot by then. I think we had won 10 of our last 12 so still going alright. But the offence certainly haven’t come back.

So our process goes like this.

1) Players and Ross have a reunion about 6 weeks ago
2) Basset receives review a month ago and like a cat with a Rat(ts) tortures him until last Friday.
3) We look at nobody but RL
4) 4 hour meeting on Monday
5) Another meeting, this time at the club, yesterday.
6) Announcement looks more than likely that RL has accepted the role.

It was not a process of casting the net widely for a prospective coach, it was only ever going to be an experienced coach, so only Beveridge, Hinkley, etc may have been targeted if their man had not come on board.

Is it right or wrong? Depends on your perspective. I have hope again but this club and its supporters has a messiah complex and there is an element of that.

I feel it is slightly different this time, it has been a pretty extensive review by Basset who seems a good operator. It was not the usual wishy washy St.Kilda board decision, it was direct and brutal, for as much as Ratten was not liked by many on here, the fan base generally really liked him.

The last point is, what is Lyons perspective? He is looking at probably his final shot at a coaching gig. He is not here to rebuild like at North, his goal would be to finally win a flag. If he flt the 'vibe' wasn't right and our 'ducks weren't in a row' like Essendon, he would not have even signalled he was interested.

If he thought the list was not capable of even making finals, I doubt he wastes his time. If he thought the structure was not in place in the footy department he would have walked. With Lenny, and Walsh coming on board, Finnis (good operator in my view) going, and Gallagher and Rath now under Walsh's control, with a President and board ruthless and determined, it seems that in RL's judgement we are putting in place the pieces for success.

And the facilities he walked back into was also marginally different to the ramshackle falling down joint he walked into 15 years ago.

Rebuilding the club off-field. Lyon clearly wanted that in place before accepting the job.

He probably feels the list has potential but the most important thing for him is to get the structure around him organised to a high standard.

The rest will eventually take care of itself. It is the foundation of the successful clubs.

Was Hayes out for the year early 2011 or was that 2012?

Riewoldt has spoken about how it was more shattering to the playing group having lost Hayes for the year as opposed to when Riewoldt went down for majority of 2010.

Wheels fell off from that point on really

I'm hoping he can assess where the game is at today and be innovative, as he was when he coached us before.

We’ve gone from driving a Commodore to a Ferrari and people are upset. FMD.

It’s still a commodore.

We’ve just replaced Daniel Ricciardo with David Coulthard.

Hang on, it is not 'shouting someone down' when he/she/or it (I don't care about gender on a football forum) is basically stating incorrect facts.

So she denigrates us saying we all have rose coloured glasses, but we can't respond to her rubbish about the gameplan being kick it to Roo, or it was the coaches fault we kicked points in a grand final or we tried to fix Allen when he did his hip in a final?

If in my opinion a post is rubbish, I have the right to respond and correct said rubbish.

Up to you big guy. You do what you think works for you.

He was out in 2011. 2012 he won the BnF. What a man.
