These might “just be words” as Damo pointed out. But they’re ****ing strong words that are damning on Ratten.

And they speak to everything that Ross holds true.

We should be excited I think.

“End of the day, we find ourselves mid table. And to pursue where we need to get to, to win a flag, which this club desires and it’s fans deserve means taking the next step in what we need by way of the attitude, the performance, the non negotiables, the strong leadership we need and the buy in from the playing group. And all of that requires us to head in a new direction”

'"e knocked back interest from Carlton and Essendon over the past 18 months and was offered a job on Geelong’s coaching staff in the preseason.
St Kilda said today it hasn’t spoken to Ross Lyon about becoming its senior coach, but has vowed to act “quickly and decisively” to replace Brett Ratten.
Asked if the club had already spoken to Lyon, new chief executive Simon Lethlean said:”No, we haven’t ... we have made no decision”.
When pressed on whether the Saints would run a process for the next coach, Lethlean dodged the question, saying “we have uncovered what we need”.
The Saints refused to discuss plans for Ratten’s replacement, but club president Andrew Bassat said they had a clear view of the future."

Nice weasel words. Walsh doesn't start until Nov 1. Would already have spoken to Lyon about the job, but club can claim they haven't.
I wonder if Footy classified is going to run a special tonight 🤔

If the club are being ruthless and want the right person for the job- who cares how we found them?

All that matters is getting the best fit.

Besides- noble was just on the review wasn't he?
He wasn't running it.

Think about it- the whole point of doing a standard round of interviews of candidates is to find someone whose ideas match or exceed your clubs' ideas of what they need.

Maybe through his involvement in the review- we've heard noble's ideas and think they are a great match for what we as a club think we need?

Who cares if we heard about nobles ideas for us via the review rather than in an interview?
It would look completely unprofessional and undermine the review entirely. There's an obvious conflict of interest there and I would hope we are smarter than that. I believe we are.

What's David Noble's approach like?
Is he a ballbreaker/standard setter type?

I recall he dropped horne francis for being a sook didn't he? ballsy move.

Obviously didnt work at a bottoming out, young team.

But we need the opposite to the richo and ratts love-in approach.

Does noble offer that?
Is he a good tactician etc?

Noble is absolutely a ball breaker. Remember when North forced him to apologise to the players after ripping them apart? Talk about undermining his authority!

Tactically though I don't think he's with it. North looked as bad as I can ever remember seeing a club look on field.

Would be awesome as a football boss or development manager, not a HC.

The same Ross Lyon who ran our list into the ground, left for more money elsewhere and then ran Freos list downhill. Great short term coach if you can overlook his mercenary move.
The same Ross Lyon that never had a chance to rebuild a team, the same one that took us to two (three) grand finals and a fantastic winning percentage. The same guy who took Freo to a Grand Final and takes no nonsense.

Yeah that’s the guy for me.

The media will no doubt focus on Ratten and his treatment, but that's just football media doing what it needs to do, which is to find the human narrative in every story. I get it. But the fact is that the club does not exist for the benefit of any person. If his sacking was the right call to be made, then it had to be made, regardless of the fairness or otherwise of the decision to Ratten.

It's a well worn path. Media pressures clubs to sack a coach, club sacks coach, media calls them a rabble. 2 weeks later some dickhead has stuck his hand up a skirt at a nightclub or stacked his car drunk and the cycle moves on. Even North and Essendon have been largely forgotten except for a few Bigfooty posters enjoying having a chuckle until karma kicks us in the nuts for getting smug.

He's a gun administrator, North thought if he could service a car he must be a gun driver for their racing team.

Impressive he spent 3 weeks alongside Barrett doing Trade Radio and didn't let anything slip about his recommendations on the coaching situation.

Shows what a professional he is.

Also, impressed we've been grilling Ratts since Sunday about keeping his job and nothing got out with the footy industry in its peak leaking season.

It’s genuinely hard to be as wrong as Barrett is 99% of the time. How you could watch that press conference and come away with that opinion is staggering. He’s pretty cosy with Ross through triple m so will be funny to see if he has to do a 180 when he is appointed.

Because part of being in the media these days is to write your own narrative.

Facts are irrelevant, it's all about how you can twist/cherry pick things to suit the story you WANT to tell rather than the what the story ACTUALLY is.

Can we keep the trans shit off the board, seen it four or five different times now. We are better than that surely. If admin get wind of it you probably get yourself an immediate week off.

Come on guys

You are taking my words out of context dude. I am quite optimistic about the playing list moving forwards, not so much about who has managed the club over the stretch.

What's your thinking around the next coach? Credit where it's due it appears you were spot on in your appraisal of Ratten, reading between the lines of the press conference.

We don't know how to win. We need winners at our club and if they have a prior relationship with us then even better.
Agree 100%
Getting people who have an insatiable desire for success not just because they are paid to do it.
A coach that has leadership written all over him and would make those players run through a brick wall every time they pull on the jumper.
They say a team will be a direct reflection of their leader within 6 months.
Call me sentimental but I'd love to see 22 Lenny Hayes take the field each week

IF: He never says a word against North, even though their rebuild is one of the most monumental stuff ups ever , but he puts the boots into anything and everything StKilda.

THEN: He must be a poor journalist. A good journalist wouldn't let his preferences for and against certain teams influence their work.
everything the pimple-headed worrier say is "just words". :drunk:

It's not necessarily his opinion. It's what he believes will stir the most sh*t. That's all they do most of the time.

He told me Rhys Mathieson earlier today

That sounds like Lenny as well.
