I'm surprised to see Cleary seemingly favoured as an 'in' by those who have posted their changes for next week.

I'm a fan and happy to put his indiscretion in the past, but what has he done to warrant selection?
I've no idea of his form given the lack of reporting about our ressies practice matches.

There was pre-season talk, on here, about him playing more of a pressure fwd role, but I'm not sure there is as a need with this week's set up and if Jordon continues as a full-time mid/tagger do we need another inside mid?

I'm inclined to think Mitchell is more of a chance than Cleary this week as he got plenty of minutes in the practice games and was solid.
Also based on nothing but the 'vibe' I think Cox may be a fan of Sid.

I feel like the Cleary talk has been in the (incredibly unlikely) event that a McInerney/Florent/Hayward/Papley is dropped.

But if Heeney (hammy) & McInerney (suspended) are out this week, it almost certainly calls for Cleary's inclusion.

Cleary could take Warner Jr's spot in the forward line, with Warner Jr. playing more on the wing. Or Cleary could play a mid/forward role.

He got some CBAs very late last year (granted, only against the Crows in round 24 when the game was already won) and he did some nice things in the mids. He also looked, for mine, our best mid in the VFL last year.

If Cleary is ever going to get a go as a midfielder (and we need to invest in this, as we have SFA in this area under the age of 23), then no Heeney, McInerney, Mills and Gulden would be the time to do it.

I actually thought he struggled today, too often out of position and losing his opponent and in no man's land.
I noted that Roberts far too often ended up on much taller opponents (McInerney and Gumby) who outmarked him and wondered about our defensive structure, organisation and manning that allowed that to happen. That to me is where Blakey should come into play as a defensive support player but I don't think he reads it well or is decisive enough.
I recall from the GF Cunningham chasing players who had lost their opponent and this brought that to mind.

What’s this Heeney hammy and Jmac suspension shite?

McInerney bumped a player with a history of concussions and unfortunately that player came off second best. The bump wasn’t malicious and was in the act of challenging for the ball.

However, the AFL operates on the outcome rather than the action. It’s like Parker’s 6 weeks last year.

We can’t take a trick, 13 on the injured list excluding Melican and possibly Heeney with Hamstring and Jmac possible suspension, that would make 16 players unavailable if these 3 are added in the coming days

Meh like he’s done anything since back from injury last year anyway.

Roberts to the wing

Bice full game

Yep you need to take your chances when it's going your way, like last year :(

Hamling was playing forward in reserves because:

  • we had no forward targets, which ruined half of our 2023 VFL season, Ladhams had a good start but then was bereft of forward nous, Buller was injured
  • we had surplus KPDs, Francis had a better start and it makes sense to develop the kids in their actual position instead of someone we already know about
  • he was actually fairly good so we kept him there

But yeah, let's pretend like it was bad coaching.

It was horrible coaching, he should’ve been playing KPD in the ones all season

Longmire took a dislike to him for whatever reason and was never going to play him
