I understand the reasons it's being discussed but the idea of a best of 3 is awful to me.

Works in the NBA and MLB where games can be played every couple of days or Origin where it happens in the course of the season it makes sense.

For mine, footy is like the Superbowl. It's a spectacle and you need to show up on the day. The 2014/22 results were thoroughly deserved for each team given the way they prepared and performed.
I'm against the idea of best of 3... but I'm absolutely for continued open discussion! We need to make sure that where the finals should be played and where the GF is held stays at the forefront so that future decisions are made with all clubs in mind. I agree with the spectacle, but I want more fans there... don't take the game away from the fans.
I agree but the super bowl is moved around, and that's the problem here really. Best of 3 stinks, but the grand final being in a set spot as it currently is , is unfair
I agree that it's unfair, but find me another ground that holds 100K... even the loss of 40K seats means the loss of a minimum of $80,000. Find a way for the AFL to recoup that loss and then the conversation will start moving...

While I get that the US does some sports fairly well, you should be fairly careful what you wish for... just think about what they've done to baseball...

But, the real problem with comparing the US sports to Australian sports, is you are comparing sports in country:
  • with 365 million people and 52 states with a country with 26 million and 6 states and 2 territories,
  • that has 9 stadiums that hold more than 45K with a country that has more than 100
  • that has half the population living in 2 states (NSW & QLD) or more than 75% living within 3 states(NSW, VIC & QLD) with a country that has more even spread on both sides.
If we tried to copy the US we'd go bust and AFL would exist no more...

Not saying copy their model and bid for the rights to host the grand final each year.

I get the stadium argument, no point playing at ballarat.

Maybe if the grand final is at the SCG the 50,000 corporates could sit at the SFS instead .

344 million and only 50 states.

But no, you can't compare.

Top 14 Stadiums in the US belong to College Football as well.
Michigan Stadium (UofM) holds 107,000+

Love it! Absolutely works for me!

Get a Swans benefactor to contribute funds to allow us to build a new stadium in Sydney's north with 90,000 capacity. Simple.
What are they going to do with it on the other 364 days of the year?

Lol, splitting hairs here...

The Swans play 12-13 games at home don't they? The Swans AFLW team play games? Other events like music concerts can be held, etc.

FWIW AFL.com reporters (nine of them) have named their mid-season All Australian team;

The same consensus Swans four, across most media mid-season AA teams, again slot into this side.
Blakey HBF,Heeney, Warner on ball, Gulden I/C.

Of the four only Heeney was picked by all nine reporters.
Of the others, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey (eight votes each) and Errol Gulden (seven)

It was noted that the Swans have not had four All-Australians in the same year since they had five in 2016, when Lance Franklin, Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker, Daniel Hannebery and Dane Rampe were all selected.

Reporters weren't identified, but were based in multiple states around the country.
Of course Sydney doesn't have a dedicated AFL.com reporter, so hope Gemma Bastiani had an input.

Cal Twomey did his best to ensure no Swans were selected.

Blakey has to be just about the first defender picked. Bizarre someone didn't.

It’s rigged. No swan comes up as an option to vote for as captain - should be Heeney

I suggest you are looking at this comment through Swans bias. All the players nominated as captains are actual club captains hence I have no issue with that at all.
The thing I do have an issue with is this team being selected with multiple mid fielders being placed anywhere else on the field just to fit them all in. Merrett and Serong on the two wings - yeah, sure. Bont on a half forward flank - even more ridiculous.

Bont has played forward plenty this season though.

We rotate midfielders through a half forward flank eg Warner, Rowbottom and Adams at the moment so putting Bont there is not ridiculous but Serong and Merrett on the wings is. The two best wingers are Gulden and Josh Daicos.
The backline isn't bad except for Nic Martin. Nah. There are plenty better. I'd actually play Naicos there. No problem with Curnow and Hogan but I can't get excited about King. Would prefer JUH or someone else who has a genuine go. It would be good to see a tagger get a run too.
