I was personally relieved when the boundary umpire blew the whistle for out of bounds on the wing with about a minute to go, I thought Sier had kept it in! If play had continued they had players forward of the ball IIRC.

One of the luckier wins I've seen. We have serious issues exiting our back half, it nearly undid all our good work in the third quarter to get back in the game.

Missing Reid who comes up to take marks when kicking out of d50. Second ruck would also help in that area, at least bring it to ground or get it out of bounds. AJ rsally helps because of his height in hte back half but when hte mids flood back we have no outlet kick, Buddy can't be everywhere

Yeah, I think robbieando posted something similar in the Longmire thread. Opposition teams know this and have been employing a press to stop us from moving the ball quickly out of defence.

Yep. With the team losing so clearances anyway and conceding so many inside 50's, teams have wised up and are pressing us into taking risks playing out of defence which with our skills has its own level of risk built in or with Reid and Naismith being out kicking it long down the line knowing it will be easier to get the turnover than normal because Kennedy and Parker are going for more marks and thus not at ground level to compete to lock the ball in or get the ball to move it on.

Inside 50s and clearances finished up about even, but we lost the contested possessions convincingly, 150-181. I think that is more a reflection of the fact that our midfield just isn't as strong in this area as it has been in the past. On balance it was still a good win the way we fought it out, though it wasn't exactly pretty and relied on some Buddy brilliance to get us over the line.
