Personally I wouldn't get too caught up with drafting half back specific players. These kids are 3 years away from being good, consisent AFL players so they're not addressing an immediate need.

Most of the best attacking defenders played their junior footy in the midfield or even half forward. I think we have kids on the list who have the attributes to provide that drive from defence.

We do need to address the Petrie succession plan. We do have options on the list in Black, Hansen possibly even Daw and Tarrant but a young power forward would be ideal. It'll take them 3-4 years to be really AFL ready and that would fit in with Drew's AFL life span.

Hopefully a good one falls to us at 18 or 40.
I agree that we need to get a big power forward who we can develop as our next big key target up front, although I am not quite sure picking one at 18 in this draft is the best option.

Look at it this way, in 2012 I think it's fair to assume that we will not win the GF and more than likely finish between 5-10. Going into next years uncomprimised draft we will therefor have a pick in the 8-13 range. Considerin that the next draft group are reportedly superior to this group and have a better wealth of KP types perhaps we should wait until round 1 in the next draft before selecting a KPF.

I reckon we should just pick the best available player at 18.

Agree. This HB obsession pre-trading/draft has bordered on hysterical. It's not that hard a position to retrain a player for. We have plenty of players who could take it on and it isn't that hard to find an option via the rookie system even if we don't.

Punting on an out and out potential star at 18 and maybe even 40 is a much better proposition than trying to pick out some specialised u18 HB.

Lets grab a Kieran Harper or Jack Darling rather than identify some Matt Suckling type you can probably get at rookie pick 50.

And if this punt happens to be a key forward, all the better. A hard leading, strong marking 195cm gamebreaking goalmachine to keep Aaron Black company for the next 10 years would be nice.

No doubt. Regardless of what you need you can only pick the best available of what's there.

Given that GWS dominate the early draft picks, they will pick a mixture of players to fill needs which probably means the best KPFs will be gone. I'd be expecting another midfield running type to fall our way again.

It's just an area that we really need to address over the next couple of draft/trade periods.

Can I recommend a hotel or what?!?!

If you get the chance, go and see the Viva Elvis show. Quality. The pool is ****ing ridiculous. The rooms are ridiculous. Never got the chance to go to the nightclub, but I'm sure its ridiculous.

I'm sure I have told you, but it is essential for you to go the XS Nightclub at Encore.

**** it, I'm booking a flight right now.

Nah, we decided to pass on Elvis.

Booked tickets to Criss Angel instead, at the Luxor.

The rooms are boneriffic. The food, holy shit, just had a steak that literally gave me a horn a foot long.

I love Vegas.

I agree we need to draft a kpf with pick 18 and the only 2 solid options that should be available are jackson paine and julian dobosz. I like both of them but would prefer paine.

With pick 40 we should draft a hbf such as josh tynan or brad hill.
THIS:thumbsu:

pick 18: KPF (Jackson Paine, Todd Elton, Julian Dobosz, whichever of these 3 are available at our pick in that order)

pick 40: Best available (any position)

Great stuff looking at the 15 most talented in the country, especially from where we sit. :thumbsu: Should've come under the heading, Look, but don't touch.

Buntine to slide, Buntine to slide, Buntine to slide, Buntine to slide...

Interesting. There is definately some talent in this draft. I think GWS will draft for needs and they will look to fill they KP with a few of thier later first round picks. We could potentially pick up a really really good mid in this draft. I've decided who I personally want at our pick....Mitch Grigg. We dont have alot of left footers and his kick is similar to that of Daniel Rich. Hope we go with him at 18, and someone like Elliot Yeo/Brad Hill with pick 40. Load up on KP players in the rookie draft.

It's just an idea of the names out there, not a definative list of who the top 15 are. Given we have pick 18, nothing to say of these won't end up at North.

Besides, there's a few handy types not listed there. McKenzie, Ellis, Markworth, Elton, Adams, Waldhuter, Crozier, Grigg, Paine etc plus some key defensive players that GWS may snap up early than rated.

Realise there is a need for a Petrie replacement but our ball use off half back is too great to ignore IMO. Still reckon Mckenzie Docherty or whoever else is a greater priority than a KPF.

Plus the KP depth in this draft is pretty crappy. Im not convinced that many of them will be 150-200 game players. Patton is the obvious exception. But other than that, there isn't many KP talls who consistently tear games apart.

Adamm Maric delisted by Melbourne today. So happy we didn't trade for him.

Now we can pick him up for nothing in the rookie draft.

Any other club delistee's that would be worth looking at? If McCaffer or McCarthy get delisted they could be good pick ups for the rookie list aswell. Provide some good depth, but will probably not make our side any better.

Sounds like a Rookie spot would be perfect for him.

Extract the digit or GTFO.

Looks decent indeeed but hard to gauge at that level of pressure.

However the article on him suggested a really good character, sort of kid we'd like down at Arden Street. Bit of a Ben Cunnington type in terms of commitment.

I'd take Brandon Ellis ahead of Docherty and Mckenzie.

Ellis is unique player. He has the ability to break tackles, has great closing speed as well as a damaging kick on the rebound. He has more strings to his bow and we would not need to wait for him to develop body strength. He would make a perfect lock down defender on small forwards.

We already have McMillan, Mullet, Wells and Sierrakowski who can play HBF.

Plus, Michael Mascoulis. Think he would be a great pick up with pick 40. Huge talent with consistency his only downside. With his good character he will most likely overcome this issue. He could be the 2011 equivalent of an Andrew Swallow pick in that we pick another gun with a pick in the 40s.

We will get key position players in the 2012 super draft.

THE HOOTER!

Surely he is an omen to take over the number 3?

What about james sellar??? Just delisted from the crows. He is a former 1st round draft pick still only 22 years of age and is a good size for a KPF 196cm 98 kgs from memory. Worth a look? Not at pick 18 but possible rookie?

Fair enough. Any of the shows there are beyond belief.

Actually, the whole place is beyond comprehension.

Won't happen.......unfortunately

Disclaimer: I said the same about Atley last year

no thanks to james sellar he is a spud of the highest order.

would take a look at james craig for a rookie list spot. developing ruckman who was probably the 2nd best ruck in his year. spent 2 years on adelaides list.

Craig is one that I really like, and i'd hope we rookie the bloke. He's only 196cm, but his tap-work is really solid, and he can mark it and run around a bit.
He'll only ever be a 2nd ruckman, but one that I wouldn't mind having on the list, especially if he can add a bit of leading patterns and such into his game, he could be a Leigh Brown esque player as a backup

Talking about Rucks there was an article on Sandilands brother.

204cm and still growing at 17.

Could be a late developer by the sounds of things, and Fremantle are considering a rookie spot for him.

Heres the link http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...nds-on-big-stage/story-fn69a32t-1226171830671

If he didnt have that last name he probably wouldn't even get a look in. Good tap ruckman (obviously) but struggles to even touch the ball around the ground. Would take at least 4-5 years of development.
