The Trade Thread (Part 2)

I misspoke before, not taking into account Lynch was gone.

Currently four deletions from our list and two additions.

To use six draft picks, four more deletions will need to be made.

Players who are likely to be nervous are Clarke, Gamble, Heyne, Polo, Johnson, Smith & Cahill.

In my opinion, it will be Heyne, Gamble, Cahill to be delisted, and then a tough decision on Al Smith or Raph Clarke.

i think heyne has a contract? may move down to rookie list?

Now if he really wants to go, and has departed, so be it. Even so, I still would have bargained hard for a higher DP/player.

Who does Sydney have we'd want and more to the point they'd give up? We've got a 2nd round draft pick and a 4th rounder for a bloke who has never played an AFL game. I think it was a reasonable deal. We'll assess in a year who was the winner.

That's ok - problem is as someone else has also posted - they will likely hang to to 3 or 4 players at least, who are being paid same/more than Walsh - but have way less potential, esp for that KP role.

I can see someone mentioned Clarke, not sure of others:confused:.

Do we know what Clarke and Walsh or others are on??.

I would say Clarke is on more than Walsh so perhaps if they traded him out things might have been different (that is a nice thought though:rolleyes:) but I doubt it. with Lyon gone then his decision to leave was not about the coach, he hasn't played a game so how the heck could he want more money without proving himself??

Nah, he wanted to move to Sydney to be with Kennelly (retired of course), nothing more nothing less so sooner as we are over it and stop phatom 'what if' trades the better. Done deal.:)

Not sure on DP, maybe Swans 2nd Rnd + 3rd Rnd. Or if it was to be a player, someone the Saints could use, Seaby, Parker or Bird + DP upgrades would be needed for the latter 2...

I can just imagined if we played hard ball and Walsh went to the PSD.

Then people would be saying that the club did another Ball **** up and should have taken the pick.

And imagine if Sydney had used 35 to pick a decent player?

Oh the outrage.

Tommy wanted to go, so good luck to him.

Ross strikes again. That is a really dissapointing way to end trade week.
Obviously stamped his papers a long time ago if we've been pushing for his signature since mid year. Money talks.

So we lose 2 players that barely make a dent in our cap. Hope we've got a crafty solution.

The irksome part is we lost two talls going into a draft weak in that area

Either the club has identified a tall target to take with the first pick (eg a Curran who Pelchan already knew at his time at Hawthorn tipped to go 2nd - 3rd rnd normally) or they're backing the ones remaining. You'd think since hey wished to retain Walsh whilst feeling like they lost nothing much with regards to Lynch that they'd have to pick up one either mature (23ish) recruit or a bottom ager to plug that development gap though. As those blokes will end up 25ish and in their prime when the likes of Kosi & Rooey really consider their full time roles.

Walsh wanted to go, there was nothing the club could do. Given he's never played a game a 2nd round pick is a win under the circumstances. Yes it sucks, but time to move on.

If we picked him up at pick 164 and sold him for pick 35, 2 years later without playing any games, you would think we won something. Theres alot of big bodied footy players that can't play footy. I'm not saying Tommy will turn out like that but he hasn't proved otherwise yet. I know not his fault, but still..

I'm disappointed that Tommy left, but I also consider the hue and cry over him at the moment and compare it to 12 months ago when people were saying that Rhys Stanley HAD to be guaranteed 22 senior games in 2011. Then he was horrible at the beginning of the year and no one made a peep about him after that (he was injured, but they sure got over him quickly. No one is claiming he's the messiah now).

So, it will be interesting to see how we're feeling about Tommy by about round 5 next year.

Hi,
Hope you don't mind me intruding. I'd like to see the Saints give the flag a real shake next year, and hoping you're in best position to do so, and many people have questionmarks over Zac . . .

If Dawson does go (for whatever reason), I was thinking about the glut of KP Defenders over at North Melbourne. I'm not sure about the contract status of Robbie Tarrant, Luke Delaney or Cam Pederson, but snagging one of them in the Pre-season draft could be a handy get.

correct me if i am mistaken

this week we lost:

A promising irish recruit
who we made come to Australia with the promise of AFL
yet didnt play him, while he played well in the reserves
while justin was getting games? i mean please
Great job Stkilda

A first round draft choice
who has played only 6 games in three years
has dominated the VFL affiliate side for three years
great job stkilda

the key thing here is that both of these players asked for a trade! even when the club wanted them to stay, what does that say about our football club

Re: correct me if i am mistaken

your mistaken. They did

They accepted Pick #37 for him.

We got #35 and another for Walsh who was yet to play a senior game.

They weren't fussed.

Re: correct me if i am mistaken

You're mistaken... Walsh has been promised a rumoured 70% pay increase, which we could not possibly offer & has had his mate, & 2008 All Ireland Championship winning teammate, Tadhg Kennelly in his ear all season

The only mistake the club has made was taking Tom Lynch at pick 13 in 2008 draft (yes i know luck plays a role too)! If you google that draft, you will find some gems of similar size that went later than Lynch that would fit quite nicely at our club right now, ie: Jackson Trengove(22), Shaun McKernan(28), Mitch Robinson (40)

Also, may i add that just because you dominate the VFL, it does not guarantee you will be a good AFL player... Just ask Shane Valenti, Rod Crowe, Chad Liddell etc etc
