Massive overreaction in here.

We got unders on Bolton, paid overs on pick 20 and got a fair price on Baker. We will get a great deal on Rioli but only because of who we are dealing with.

It's clear to me that too many on here have fallen for opposition posters view/rate our players rather than what they're actually worth. The biggest positive out on this trade period is we look to be walking away with paying little to no salary which in turn should make us big players in FA next season whilst we have this years and next draftees on draftees salaries.
The biggest problem is that not all Drafts are of equivalent value, which makes Pick numbers bounce around a bit in value, and it takes an experienced and skilled person to get that. Whilst we (and you) need time to get our head around the quality in this draft (and future drafts for that matter) because we are mostly casual observers, the guys doing the job have metrics for which they are paid handsomely to get right, or as nearly right as possible. It is the first step.

Whether it is an over-reaction or not, people here are entitled to feel excited if that is how they feel.

Exactly right, same with all this debate about trading up for 2. If our club experts do the deal, that tells me they think it’s worth doing for good reason. If it’s 6 and another pick, which I think it will be if we do it, it could be 18 or 20, which I would find palatable

Also from a moneyball point of view the older players can be injured more and we had them .You guys getting youth in now is a good thing . After our flag our senior players were off the park more than on . Form wise even some of our all Australians fell off the perch .

All too often, it is a game of the human spirit. Faith is placed, well sometimes, not so at other times.

Yeah. Nah.

Players only as valuable as what teams are prepared to pay. It wasn't a bidding war. It was WA or GC or bust, severely limiting our trade partner options.
  • WCE stuffed around with Barass, were rogered by the Hawks and, in the end, we got Bakes for fair value
  • Freo were 10 and 18 the whole way. We got their 10 and 11 (and 18 for 14) and folks say the golden zone for kids is 1-12 this year.
  • Rioli is no spring chicken. Making out like bandits here.
Fact is neither Rioli, Bakes, Shai or Fridge were going to be part of our next flag side. So we flipped them in the hope we find kids who will be.

Yeah FMD those expansion clubs got looked after. Amazing we built a 3 flag team in that period.
GWS picks in 2011: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14 is 11 picks out of the top 14 picks.

The comparisons with GC and GWS are ridiculous. Both those clubs were starting from a blank sheet of paper... and those kids had to surround themselves with "experienced players" such as Nathan Bock, Daniel Harris, Campbell Brown, Josh Fraser, Gaz and Jarred Brennan. Or GWS - Phil Davis, Callan Ward, a broken Chad Cornes and James McDonald.

I know everyone here would look back with anger on the Toranto and Hopper deals... but history says that we would have bottomed out quicker had we used those draft picks on young kids, and you'd well within your rights to suggest that was a silly move.

However, we are going to need those two players like never before. They will be out battering rams that we need to protect the kids... because Baker, Rioli, Graham and Bolton told us that they didnt have the stomach for it. Not trading Toranto and/or Hopper... we'd be abolutely ****ed and starting from the exact same blank sheet that GWS and GC had to.

If they can stay fit even for 12 months, having Lynch, Hopper, Toranto, Balta, Vlaustin, Short, Prestia, Nankervis and Broad will be so much more than inaugural clubs ever got.

Hey guys, came over to check all the gloating from the Bolton trade, and pleased to say so far I haven't seen any.

Been a few melts over on the Freo board, but a majority seem to be pretty happy with the trade and pragmatic about the cost. We'll give Shai a good home, hopefully he can repay us with about 40 goals this year 😜.

Also wanted to say I reckon you guys are going the right way about it by stacking all your draft picks for this year, if you can keep a hold of all the superstars you pick up and can weather the storm for the next 2-3 years, I look forward to seeing you guys climbing the ladder again with some exciting footy.

At least you have accepted your rebuild and are getting to work on it. God knows what's going through the heads of the slime down the road over here, must think they are on for another premiership tilt.

Good doing business with yas and good luck over the next couple of years. Cheers guys.
You guys should be thanking us on the last Saturday in September

I think it was more a casual observation given they were the next nearest comparison. Which other Club comes close to this haul in which year?

So it doesn't look like we're paying any of Boltons or Riolis deal which is pretty unbelievable. We've got all these guys leaving.

Dusty ~$1.2mill
Bolton ~$1.2mill
Rioli ~$600k
Graham ~$600
Baker ~$600
Grimes ~$700k
Naismith ~$300
Pickett ~$400k
Plus Prestia on substantially less but Lynch deal going up.

That's over $5mill conservatively and the cap is going up. **** me Balta is gonna get paid next year. The free agent spree is going to be wild.
