Exactly.

If we get this Gold Coast thing over the line and then have 19 as well, then trading 20 to you guys may well come into play.

Or you guys are saying hold off until you figure out what the Dogs want for 17

Every chance this crap goes back and forth until 5PM next Wednesday anyway lol.
Probably had opening chats today

North - we want CCJ will you take our 3rd round pick

Richmond - Sorry we value him more than that pick alone what else can you offer

North - Ok, we will see what we can do we might be able to secure a pick closer to what you guys are after

I also wouldn’t be shocked if the AFL give the clubs a directive to draw out any discussions or not finalise anything until late in the trade period to maximise media exposure and add revenue

Brisbane, Gold Coast same sh*t
The point is still the same
Once a player has been in the system the pick they were drafted with means absolutely fu** all

Don't agree, not F all. But definitely declining relevance year by year.

Depends on how long they've been in the system, and whether or not you subscribe to the 'talls take ages to develop' mentality which would suggest that any tall holds their draft value better over time. I think it's a given that most players develop steeply in the first few years. Pick 1 last year would indicate high value this year as the player hasn't had time to develop.

Look at guys like Jackson, Cox etc. They look the goods without 4 years of nothingness beforehand.

I've always believed that top shelf talent will find a way to shine through. This is why I don't think North would ever hand over pick 20 for CCJ. I'd like that, but it won't happen, especially when they have #1 PSD and are trying to build a better list. Trading pick 20 would be downright irresponsible.

I think that's more likely than not. It's all they're about.

And here we are, eating it up
Reading every article, listening to an afl in house radio station and every news article that comes out from multiple media outlets all essentially saying nothing we all didn’t already speculate or have been discussing for the past couple of weeks

Personally, I get all my footy news from here (and the odd announcement from RFC).

Every club probably has a content quota to reach lol.

LMAO@ Duh Hawks...completely unable to find a salary dump option for Titchell they've apparently put the rest of their midfield* on the trade table - O'Meara, Wingard and Ceglar.

*Worpel not included for obvious reasons.

that’s a midfield that strikes fear into the opposition 😂

If you still don't think North are trying to be scum bags then read this. They haven't even offered pick 40...

North, Richmond debate worth of Coleman-Jones
By Michael Gleeson

North Melbourne has offered a slide of draft picks in the late rounds next year in an ambit opening bid for Richmond’s ruck forward Callum Coleman-Jones.

North has offered their third round pick next year for Coleman-Jones but want Richmond’s fourth round pick back in return in the deal for the player.

The Tigers and North are a long way apart in early discussions as Richmond wants the Roos’ pick 20 for the big man who has been offered a four-year deal to move to Arden Street.

Coleman-Jones was drafted with pick 20 four years ago.

Richmond was frustrated and disappointed at the player’s decision to leave in the first instance believing opportunities would begin to open up in the Tigers senior team next season and beyond.

They also feel the player had been well supported by the club after his COVID breach at a Gold Coast strip joint and fight outside a kebab bar along with teammate Sydney Stack cost the club $100,000 in the salary cap and saw the players suspended at length.

North holds the first pick in the pre-season draft but it is unlikely the player or his management is keen to use this avenue to move.
North reasons the 22-year-old player has only played nine games since being drafted in 2017.

Coleman-Jones has spent most of his time as a back-up forward to premiership stars Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt.

The 200cm athletic tall played most of his junior football in the ruck and wants to play more as a ruckman than a forward.

Richmond has already lost versatile tall Mabior Chol this off-season with the ruck forward moving to the Gold Coast Suns as a free agent.
The Suns were in close negotiations with Coleman-Jones prior to securing Chol as a free agent.

Not sure why we’re playing games with North. They hold all the power. Just take 38 + Tarrant and be done with it.

According to the Age they have not offered 38 (40).

They offered a future 3rd round pick for CCJ and our 4th this year

No, I understand their position very clearly. They are not obligated to trade pick 20. If we don't accept unders then they can walk him into the PSD on the grounds that Richmond refused their offer and they were unable to reach an agreement.

If you were North's list manager you'd probably do the same. Pick 20 in a wooden spoon team is too valuable to trade out when you can get your target for absolutely nothing in the PSD.

Yes, but are you forgetting these clubs deal with each other every …single…year. So I’d suggest it’s not good business to deliberately screw over a club and jeopardise future trading relationships.

Norf will buckle under the fear of CJ remaining at Richmond, or CJ will buckle under the fear of being labelled an ungrateful tool when Richmond retained him after kebab gate.

CJ’s manager also has to deal with Richmond in the future, so a low ball offer will not be all that remains on the table….

I’m not saying it will be pick-20, but it also won’t remain as just pick-38 and nothing else.

I don't exactly know how it works but according to one of the articles someone posted in here today, we're willing to retain him/match the offer if we're not going to get what we want. Doubt that happens, but could be a bit of leverage for us

WTF is Norf's problem? why such hostility giving up pick 20 when you're still holding pick 19, its the same draft hand and their adding CCJ. Norf better go find some more early 2nd round picks because Pk40 ain't cutting it.

Easy, they want to use 19 for a better pick because RFC is too slow on the uptake and feel they will screw us over in the pre-season draft

he’s not a restricted free agent. He accepts our offer or goes to the PSD if we can’t get a trade done. There’s no matching.

North are like a customer walking into the Porsche dealership in Abbotsford and pointing at the 911 Turbo saying we want that, but only offering enough coin to afford a Coffee mug with a picture of the 911 on it..
