Appears to be Essendon and minor links to Geelong and North Melbourne due to their need for a small forward.
I'd much prefer Hill over Aarts or Castagna but I just don't think we get involved here unfortunately.

Those projections were from a post I was replying to, so it would be pertinent to use a projected range for all of those picks.

2021 Adelaide 1st: Pick 6 as a known pick

2022 Melb. 1st: Somewhere between say 14-18 and who knows, they might end up with injuries like we had or they might be premiers.

2022 North 1st: Realistically bottom 4 so a pick 1-4

2022 Adelaide 1st: Can't see too many teams below them, so 1-2

2022 North 2nd: 19-23

Best case = 6-14-1-2 cost 1 + 19
Worst case = 6-18-4-2 cost 1 + 23

Without trading:

Best case = 1-2-19
Worst case = 1-4-23

So the net benefit is gaining pick 6 this year and a 5 spot upgrade of the 2nd next year for the cost of passing on JHF. Obviously a gamble because JHF has looked good, the player taken at 6 could be nearly as good. I still think that by adding an extra player at pick 6 and the upgrade of the 2nd rnd pick is worth it to add that many players over the 2 years. Those who are risk averse would probably not see it that way.

I pretty much agree but I see the ranges a little differently. I don’t think the North 2022 1st rounder was part of the deal was it?

The Melbourne 2022 first rounder I think we would expect a 3rd placed finish as par value, then I have added a couple of positions for the inevitable father-sons or priority picks or free agency compo picks that seem to arise without fail. So I would have that pick more in the 14-22 range, 22 being the Premiership scenario with say 2 father-sons and 2 free agency compo picks.

The Crows 2022 first rounder, I am a bit more bullish on the Crows than most for next year. I really liked the way they played in 2021 and they add Milera and Dawson potentially, plus a lot of young players that should show a bit of a net improvement. I might be optimistic for them but I see them finishing around 13th-14th and again with the seemingly inevitable slippage, that is how I arrived at their 2022 first round pick being the 7th selection in the draft.

On the other side of it that North 2021 second rounder I don’t think will realistically be before about pick 21-22 on the night, but could be as high as about pick 26 if North get off the bottom and a couple of father-sons or compo picks get jammed in before that selection.

So, new options to consider:
38 & 40 for Bulldogs 23 ? Would give us a third hit in the Bazzo, Butler, Nevitt, Williams range.
Would have to do it pre-draft or very early in the draft.
Only gives Bulldogs 80 extra points but not too many others currently able to offer much more.
Ironically, Collingwood could be one who offers them the best deal.
They now have enough points, but will be only be left with picks 48 & 58 after matching.
Trading those late picks for 23 will protect their early 40s picks, so could have 41 as their next pick.

Personally, I think we're better off not worrying about that now.
Free up enough spots to take our 6 picks to the draft and trade them on the night.
Bulldogs need picks after matching, Saints & GWS need picks to match.
Saints also probably want more picks before the bids come. Carlton & Port also got no picks in that mid-range of the draft.
Correct me if I am wrong but don’t type pies need picks for lipinksi?

Why the **** wouldnt we go hard for Hill?

Literally exactly what we need in the fwd half and wouldn't cost that much

Of couse or has to be essington that are gonna get him

Would we be interested , has he done much yet , was highly fared at draft time. For mine I want to try Stacky in those small forward roles , not sure he offers anything we haven’t got , he still needs to improve some to make a reg impact at the level

If we are as reported interested in Stengle then we would have to be open to taking this bloke. He is a decent player already but showing signs of breaking out. At a reasonable salary around $350k I would happily give up pick 17 for him. If he is on one of the Giants $450k specials and we had to take all of it, then pick 28.

Bombers however need class forwards pretty desperately and have probably tapped him up to move to Vic on a better deal than we could offer. Interesting to see what the Bombers cough up for him if he does go there.

I agree, but unfortunately I just can't see it happening. Normally the early links are pretty good and Twomey often has good mail.

I'd 100% take Bobby Hill. Would only take a second rounder you'd imagine.
If we delist Garth and Egg it gives us two extra list spots which takes us up to six. One for Hill, 5 picks to take to the draft if need be.
I wouldn't be surprised if St Kilda get involved here as well.
Im not holding my breath on this one, but would be nice.
Plus he is only 21!!!
If he was to request Richmond pick #38 would get this deal done imo
He was pick #24 in 2018 and just been ok nothing special but i would take him with #36

Say we do bring Mitchell in, who does he replace in our centre square set up?

Martin
Prestia
Cotchin
Bolton
Edwards
Graham
Highly likely at least one of cotchin Prestia and Edwards will be injured late in the season. Bolton to play forward and keep castagna or aarts out. Essentially, mitchell in, Castagna out.
RCD will get his crack, we’ll have retirements at the end of next year

It has to be a steal or nothing for you hey? Hill is worth a second rounder every day of the week especially at 21 years of age. Nothing wrong with a fair trade for both parties.

What does Hill bring that is over and above what we already have in Stack as someone said?
It's over and above Aarts and Castagna. Plus Stack is still a big question mark. I know the majority of people have a hard on for the guy, but he is one stuff up from essentially being out the door. Hill is smart recruiting.

I would expect for what he will cost and what he could be, all Victorian teams will have some sort of nibble at Hill.

But I suspect that a few teams will be prepared to offer more money and more years than we can, as well as a more guaranteed role, which will see us well back in the race unfortunately.

That said, we have the draft capital, the reputation as being leaders in promoting indigenous culture and the Korin Gamadji Institute so there would be a non-footy/ Non-monetary angle we could play.

Still though, I think he will nominate elsewhere.

Ok ill try to give you my thoughts on him

I see a flashy player that really has alot of potential but just doesnt produce it enough during a game
3 years in the system 30 games averaging 9 touches and less than goal.

Does a few flashy things but not involved enough

Main part is he wants to leave for another state and selects a team. If its us then 38 is fair
but i wouldnt really lose sleep if its 28

The Yarran part is a little revisionist. While we weren’t aware of the meth we knew he had mental health concerns and yet we pushed ahead anyway. We learnt a lot from that trade and if Balme was at the club at the time I doubt the trade would of gone ahead. One of his first acts was to cut Yarran free quickly and relatively painlessly.

I wonder where Chris Yarran is these days. I hope he got the help he needs and is ok.
