From the Age

Sources familiar with the situation suggest Sydney are preparing to make life difficult for Jordan Dawson as he seeks a move to Adelaide.
Rival clubs are also of the view Richmond will drive a hard bargain in any trade with North Melbourne for Callum Coleman-Jones.

If anyone needs some comic relief I highly recommend the Carlton board…..a couple of real rib ticklers…:

1. Rumours Dow may want to go to Tigers and apparently he’s worth nothing less than pick-20.

2. Very, very happy with the Hewett selection and suggestions he’s on the cusp of becoming elite.

There’s more gold over there…. just a treasure trove of delusion.

Paddy Dow has been such a bust at pick 3 that he walked from Carlton he would still be there at Pick 7 in the PSD

carlton board are on fire with the idea of Dow to us especially where he felt he didn’t get a good go at it or played in the position he wanted at Carltonbut yet come to us where his ex Coach is now an assistant?!

LIFELINE EXTENDED FOR TIGER
RICHMOND mid-season draftee Matthew Parker has committed to a new one-year deal to remain at Punt Road in 2022.

The 25-year-old was plucked out of South Fremantle in June, having been delisted by St Kilda after a two-season stint last year.

Parker's agent, Anthony Van Der Wielen of Empire Sports Management, confirmed his client would soon ink a fresh contract to remain on the rookie list into next season.

Parker played the final six games of the season for the Tigers as a midfielder/half-forward.

The WA native returned to Perth at the end of Richmond's campaign and was given clearance to play for South Fremantle in the WAFL finals. After a quiet return against Claremont in week one of finals, Parker collected 26 disposals and 10 tackles in the Bulldogs' loss to Subiaco on Saturday.

His side will again face Claremont on Sunday for a place in the WAFL Grand Final against Subiaco.

Parker's signature will leave Richmond with seven players out of contract. Sydney Stack is expected to ink a new deal, but Derek Eggmolesse-Smith, Noah Cumberland and a trio of key backs – Bigoa Nuyon, Ryan Garthwaite and Ben Miller – all remain unsigned.

The Tigers have committed to bringing in North Melbourne veteran Robbie Tarrant on a two-year deal to replace the retiring David Astbury. - Mitch Cleary

Can’t complain with that for mine, showed enough to play a few different roles and has a body that’s ready to play AFL
Costs us next to nothing salary wise as well

Apparently we’re showing interest in the Suns pick 3. Maybe we think we can get Callaghan there if GWS opt to go for a tall

This is very exciting

Not sure any other club has our draft capital, also not sure we should do it either but, its great to have options

Charity contract, not in the top 30 when all fit. I don't understand why ..... he does not fit a need......surplus

If Dow was to request a trade to us and Carlton want a first round pick, then it's simple, we give Carlton pick 7 & 26 and they give us Dow pick 6 & 25. That way we get ahead of Fremantle in both the first and second round.

Maybe I’m misreading but why would Carlton give us two pick upgrades and a player without gaining anything themselves?

Good for Parker he will have a full AFL pre-season to prepare.
At worst he is a good strong competitor who is handy for depth.

Leppa said on SEN a couple of months ago you need a best 26 to win a flag and Richmond only had a best 22 this year.

That’s why we need players like RCD, Martyn, Dow and Miller to at least improve enough to be genuine depth players.

For those that have seen him, is Callaghan worth trading up for? Looks silky as in
His highlight videos. Has time space and evasiveness as well as height

Really good post mate!

As an aside, was fortunate to receive a pre-game address from Alan Jeans when playing finals at Cheltenham in my early 30's. I recall whispering to the guy next to me "...and to think this bloke coaches AFL" as Jeansy was gently going through his 'mates and memories' mantra. Little did I know he was building a call to arms where you would do anything for this day to be about those mates and memories. Within three or so minutes all 20 of us would have got out of those club rooms whether there was a door or not - never felt so fired up before a game - never so self sacrificing.

So while I agree with what you said above about Alan Jeans' players, he had the capacity to make monsters of mere men.

Have watched Terry Wallace too, so utterly different.
I was playing for Mordi (after the VFA days) and our coach was a twat. Before a final he made us all lie on our backs with our legs raised, and listen to the words of a song he thought was deep and might rev us up. Instead we all did our best not to fall about laughing....... 'did you ever know you were my hero....' Bette Midler at her fiery best.

Funniest thing I've been involved with in footy. And he went on to have a long career as a runner in the AFL. I used to wonder how. Allan Jeans had nothing on this bloke.

It's Carlton that's why. But if they really want something they can have Garthwaite and DES

In all seriousness though I wouldn't be opposed to getting Dow, but I wouldn't be paying any where near what Carlton and their fans want.

West Coast will try to low ball Carlton in a deal for outgoing Blue Sam Petrevski-Seton, who has already been declared a contender for recruit of the year next season.

The playmaker was frustrated by his lack of opportunities through the midfield at Calton has an eye on a wing-half forward role at West Coast in 2022.

The Eagles have a high opinion of the Halls Creek product and in particular how he can fit in with the team’s kicking game style.

But the Blues aren’t going to receive a high pick in return for a man who former Carlton list boss Stephen Silvagni nabbed originally nabbed with pick No. 6.

West Coast has selections N0. 10. No. 29 and No. 35 but will likely offer pick No. 49 first up when talks begin next week.

Petrevski-Seton, 23, was twice dropped to the VFL this year and averaged 14 disposals across his 14 games in the senior team, playing a lot of half back and half forward.

Fremantle did not bang down the door for Petrevski-Seton but is keen on contracted Geelong speedster Jordan Clark.

Former Collingwood and Carlton great Dale Thomas said former teammate Petrevski-Seton loomed as one of the pick-ups of the year for the Eagles.

“I can see him being one the Carlton fans in a year’s time say ‘Geez, what are we doing letting him go, or how didn’t we keep him’ and ‘how didn’t we get the best out of him because he has unbelievable skills’,” Thomas said on Triple M.

“He was probably starved of a little bit of opportunity (and) some of it was his own doing because of his consistency, but I really do like him.

“He is a really good talent and next year I think certainly he will be in that conversation for recruit of the season … and have a really big impact.

“He loved it tough and he loved it hard and he has got the skills to match.”

Co-captain Patrick Cripps gave the departing Blue his blessing to head home.

“Sometimes guys just need change to have a fresh start and get back to the way they were playing,” Cripps said.

“From my point of view he’s a great mate and I chatted to him yesterday and wished him all the best.

“I’d like nothing better than to see him play well wherever he’s going.”

Would have thought half back was one of the easier positions to play in modern footy, especially with his skill set. If you can't play half back, you really can't play midfield.

It's a big 'if' though. What does it leave us with should they take Callaghan? Possibly Ward but he could be there at pick 7 and if not him then there's others that will be.

Guess you have to ask 'why are GCS trading out of pick 3'? My take is that they see this as a very even draft after the top 4 and would get 2 x players of similar talent instead of 1.

If it was GWS pick 2 then that's a different story.

We’ve got the best Dow. That’s enough.
