I think the difference between going the 100% full draft pick path in 2023-2024 vs trying to get some established youngish midfielders is whether we finish bottom three on 2-3 wins vs bottom 3 on 3-6 wins.

Especially with the impending exits of Cotchin, Lambert, Riewoldt, Martin, Edwards, Prestia, McIntosh and friends over the next 14 months.

In many ways, Martin staying vs wanting to play on elsewhere and getting some decent picks/players back is the difference and affords us a crack at Hopper or similar.

Don't want us to trade our first 3 picks we currently have.

The problem with Cotch and Jack is will they play at the same level next year?

Jack has been okay this year but also showed signs of decline, Cotch having a great year but those injury’s seem to be wracking up… Plus Edwards was planing good footy last year as well, Will we essentially being carrying Jack and Cotch next season like we have Edwards when we could just be planing a kid instead

Essentially comes down to if we think we are still in the mix next year or not

We made the calls last year thinking we were a legitimate chance for the flag, we are still around the mark apart from the last two weeks but they could of gone the other way as well so I guess those calls are somewhat justified especially when you look at the current outs we have but next year might be a different story

I thought GWS have major cap issues, which is why everyone's talking about Tarranto and Hooper leaving. Why would they pick up a ruckman who is on $1m a year?

I think the “cap issue” is convincing the other 17 teams they have one when they recruit a $1 million ruckman

I think overpaying for Baker would be a massive mistake

I also don’t think he is captain material, spend any time with him (I have been fortunately been given that opportunity) he isn’t really a leader per sae a lot get confused with someone being a good player as being a good leader
Captains need to take responsibility for the other players on field, tell them where to go, pull them up off field if they don’t hold standards ect

They aren’t the type of things bakes would be into, great player and love him but not the guy we should be hitching the wagon to either

Dumbest idea I’ve heard , is that the NM template for a re build . I sense we’ll lose a couple of required players so we ll have no shortage of draft currency and spots to fill ,

I oft go to saad as a reference point , finished 3rd in Ess bf year they were bottom 4 and they got pick 6 , lachie Weller pic 3 ,,,baker CV by comparison in bf finishes is next level by comparison , I think we d ask for a r1 , Rioli the same , read8ng GC wish list had me thinking naming Rioli was only piece missing in the article

It’s hilarious looking at the Saints forum when Higgins was playing well earlier this season … they were laughing at what a bargain he was and even comparing him to Toby Greene. Some even said he was better than Milne.

Baker has had a phenomenal year, but some of the money being quoted is upper competition echelon money. He can play across all 3 lines which is vital but he had an absolute stinker against North where he should be stepping up and making the difference.

Not sure what the Eagles could offer us for him, but someone like Oscar Allen would get me thinking.

Not sure what the Eagles could offer us for him, but someone like Oscar Allen would get me thinking.

Personally would want a little more than Allen or just picks

Allen is an interesting prospect but still has question marks and his injury history needs to be taken into account

If we are getting a player for Baker they need to be a safe bet walk in best 22 and Allen isn’t quite that unless he is part of a deal that involves some picks as well

Having a look through there's not a whole lot of established 22 players there that I would consider for a trade. We need midfield depth and most of their prime midfield movers are getting on or cooked (Shuey, Yeo etc.). Someone like Duggan doesn't really help us given our absolute wealth of half back flankers unless we thought he was going to move into the middle, but Carlton went down that path with Williams and not a risk I'd want to be taking.

Has played 9 games each of the previous two seasons and IMO is starting to obstruct others development in the only role he can play ? We start losing them due to lack of opportunity and we are further in the shit going forward .
