The problem with Cotch and Jack is will they play at the same level next year?

Jack has been okay this year but also showed signs of decline, Cotch having a great year but those injury’s seem to be wracking up… Plus Edwards was planing good footy last year as well, Will we essentially being carrying Jack and Cotch next season like we have Edwards when we could just be planing a kid instead

Essentially comes down to if we think we are still in the mix next year or not

We made the calls last year thinking we were a legitimate chance for the flag, we are still around the mark apart from the last two weeks but they could of gone the other way as well so I guess those calls are somewhat justified especially when you look at the current outs we have but next year might be a different story
Cotch and Jack are leaders and great at directing traffic , something we severely lack . Additional they can be moved to lesser roles as others start stepping into the roles they have occupied . Where does Prestia if not in the midfield ?

Cotch can’t play any other positions either, and you could say the same about Edwards being versatile and having leadership cred directing players
How has that worked out?

Edwards has never had the leadership of Cotchin or Jack . Cotchin can play outside and or forward if need be and is still our best inside mid , Titch was not at that level last year.

Cotch can’t play forward
He’s never been a threat around goals Or very good in one on one marking situations better off playing cumbo

As for outside he isn’t quick enough
He’s an inside mid and that’s all

His ability to kick to his team mates advantage inside 50 is elite as are his defensive efforts which includes tackling smothering , blocking . Kicking goals ain’t the only thing a forward has to do. I would also not be opposed to tap him on the shoulder once someone takes over the mantra of best inside mid . We take him out of the midfield last night and we are in further trouble particularly defensively .
His ability on either side does and always has somewhat compensated for lack of pace and allowed him to get out of stoppages ala Pendlebury .

Personally would want a little more than Allen or just picks

Allen is an interesting prospect but still has question marks and his injury history needs to be taken into account

If we are getting a player for Baker they need to be a safe bet walk in best 22 and Allen isn’t quite that unless he is part of a deal that involves some picks as well
I’d def take Allan straight swap , but why would they do that considering Kennedy and darling on last legs

We have little to no talent below about 25 years in age. Losing baker would be a big big hit.

Not sure that’s true. For a side that’s finished at the pointy end as much as us, we have some serious talent to work with.

Baker
Bolton
Cumberland
Balta
Gibcus
Ross
Sonsie
Rioli Jnr
Miller
Clarke
Mansell
Ralphsmith
Stack
Ryan

Most of that is unproven, or generally considered not very good on here.

Thinking we will get anything out of stack is beyond optimistic

Hearing Angus Brayshaw on Geelong's hit list. If we finish low enough going to the draft and picking up Angus would hardly be a bad option for us especially looking to have a real crack in 2023 and beyond.

We would have a far more enticing list going forward than Geelong with premiership prospects

I think we have to start considering trading a couple of decent players like a Rioli (I know he’s been great) but we really need to restart our next generation of midfielders…it’s worryingly bare. It worked with Deledio and helped us bring in Prestia, caddy and nank. Just have to make those tough decisions sometimes

Really?

Look even if we do not make the eight we are not that far off. Look I think we are very close and the transitioning is not far off. I like the look of our youngsters and some of our vets are holding up. Its a fine balance, we just need to be careful overpaying for certain players like Hollands years back.

I would be stunned if we do not move up significantly in 2023 as well as 2024. Some of our vets can go on, but some can go on for a little bit and not all can go on forever

We have several retirement plus delistings, trading 25yo would be dim witted move ,, in any case I fear both rioli and baker are leaving so you’ll get your wish

Have a look at the midfield, cotchin , Edwards
Lambert are cooked , presti, Dusty are injury prone and in their twilight years

It's never as good as it seems and it's never as bad as it seems.

Lots of overreactions here.

Get 2-3 genuine mids in and we'll be fine - they are the easiest position to trade for purely given the supply.

Could easily get Hopper and another mid if we're serious about addressing our clearance game.

Play Lynch as the sole key with medium types like Cumberland, Bauer.... Fogarty .

Our list balance isn't as bad as people are suggesting.

I think to make the best decisions one has to look at the whole list including depth, whether all the depth is needed etc..

I mean the ideal scenario would be three good draft picks and Angus Brayshaw. This is unlikely to happen, its just best case scenario for assualt on 2023. But if that happens, what else would need to happen for that to work?

I do not even know what valuation Brayshaw would command. North of 500K most likely for sure and frankly he might be too expensive for us to get because Geelong would probably throw serious coin at him to get try and get him and if Melbourne lose Jackson they will have cap room to

Lol in what world do we move up as early as next year. We have no midfield, and barely a forward line anymore. Norf of all teams carved us up.

More likely to be bottom 4 than top 4 for the next 5 years.
