In fairness, Rioli was a very average small forward. He's not in the same ballpark as Cameron or others gun small forwards.

He's a gun HBF though. Genuinely AA squad level IMO, once it all comes together across 22 games. For that reason why put him back to a position he struggled with? He's had 1 season where he kicked over 20 goals, and it was a 25 1 goal a game season in 2017.

We'd ruin our good thing we now have by shifting him forward. He could be explored on the wing though as an option.
2017 PF , 4 beautiful goals better than average , GOTY went alright too

The umpire ****ed up on the one where Max gawn tackle Noah as he was kicking for goal
This is the video where he was 'timed out' Completed the mark with 1m57s left to play, was called to play on at 1m28s for having exceeded the shot clock.

Don't think I've ever seen someone get timed out, especially with less than 2min left to play.

Yes, everyone lives on one game and constantly use that as the only example, that's probably part of the concern.

Means that for that year he was 21 goals from 24 games for the rest of the season.

Anyway we can put this to bed, he wasn't a good small forward, he's a very good half back.

Whistle sounds at 2:00 for the mark, he does a hurry up double whistle as 1.33, he then calls play on at 1:30. We can argue but the umpire followed the rules and Balta needed more awareness then.

Whether they call it other times can be argued, but in this instance that's 100% on Noah.

Playing as a small fwd at Richmond was different under Dimma to any other team. Run, up the wing, to half back, defend, chase, press !! Rioli and Castagna didn't cruise in the fwd line like Cameron & Betts to get 'over the tops' or 'lead out' to the ball in the pockets. We would bomb the ball to the pocket, Lynch/Jack bring the ball to ground and our small fwds would go to work to get the ball and release to a Lambert/Edwards/Dusty to score. You cant compare our small fwds game plane to any others in the league. They would often run 10-12km like our mids & wingers.

I could have sacked him on the spot for that , the dumbest play I’ve seen in my life

Dude, one game FFS haha

If you'd bothered to do your research before choosing to have your giggle girl moment, you'd realise he's gone 100+ 7 times and not far below 100 many more times in his career from really limited opportunities as a #1 ruck.

Had a 126 the fortnight before the 128 in another must win game where he was the most important player on the ground for us in the win - how many samples do you want?

Soldo out performed Max that much that Max only scored the 10 coaches votes and 3 Brownlow votes. That is why Supercoach scores are a dumb way to judge a players impact on games.

Can't acknowledge the rest of the comp's rating of him, or that his new role at a top-4 club and his scores clearly mark Soldo as a #1 ruck. Regardless of your opinion.

Can't acknowledge over half of Gawn's game rating, major contributions to his coaches votes etc. were achieved in the limited minutes he was NOT playing on Soldo.

Use game ratings when it suits you to highlight Gawn's magnificence, then pretend they're meaningless when they highlight Soldo's ability.

Always fun, RT.

Really.

They'll catch up soon enough

These media-nuffy group-think football trends you make so much of literally never pan out the way you think they will.

Thankfully, or we'd still be without a flag this century. ;)

What on earth happened with Sharp?

He was tracking reasonably nicely over 2021-2022 and just seems to have fallen out of favour and no interest now.

Was it injury related or off field?
Maybe match committee were to blunt on their appraisal of him

Video not working

The rest of the comp may rate him as a number 1 position wise, I don't rate him as one in terms of actually playing the game the way the games best rucks play the game, therein lies the difference in how we see Soldo.

As I've said he isn't good enough away from the stoppage to have the type of impact they have on games and as such he'll always struggle to become an elite level ruck.

I highlighted Gawns Supercoach score to show just how much of an impact Soldos elite level Supercoach score had on the oppositions ruckman. Unfortunately you can't seem to admit that Gawn was dominant through the whole game, which is why both coaches had him as the best player on the ground so to the umpires. They may get it wrong every now and then, but the umpires aren't generally going to award 3 votes to a player who dominates in junk time at the end of the game.

You only need to look at the rucks that have an impact around the ground as well as winning hitouts to see that mobile athletic rucks are the way forward, unless Soldo can drastically improve his around the ground work away from the contest he'll never be a genuine elite AFL ruckman.

haha you do you champo. Some delicious rants in here about a nothing a player that is gone for many reasons, wasnt pushed, didnt play much, didnt do much, wasnt very good, and despite your points rating, was a very average player, even in his role.

Orazio Fantasia has committed to Carlton. Not sure if that's a good thing for them or a waste of a list spot given how injury prone he has been since heading to Port a few years ago.

Come on RT.
Shocking recruitment by the Blues.

I’ve got faith in Samson, and Naismith or whoever we pick up will be a stopgap for 2024 if we need. But Samson had a higher hitout to advantage percentage than Soldo this year, if that’s anything, and I think he’s already proven he’s better around the ground, up forward, and has better skills. Apparently Balmey said he’s put on 7kgs and is up to 107kg now as well, so surely he’ll be stronger in the contest in 2024.
That should help him to start taking more of those contested marks he should take.
