Hello Tiger fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

The Tiger Army needs to close ranks around the GOAT and march with sole function into the 2014 Football Season.
Let the games begin...

Jack Riewoldt’s decision to break ranks on Wednesday has angered his club and placed even more pressure on his beleaguered coach Damien Hardwick – a man whose mixed public messages during the Tigers’ horror season have only served to further confuse the situation.

Hardwick has been so bereft of answers he has resorted to seeking mediocre positives and making promises his players have repeatedly failed to keep.

Repeated assurances that the club is moving in the right direction, any talk of improvement or mention of injuries is just embarrassing and an insult to the club’s much-lauded record number of members and game-day spectators who were so cruelled at the MCG last September.

Hardwick’s team in 2013 and often even in 2012 was one of the most exciting to watch in the competition. Now Richmond is generally unwatchable; scared of playing and frightened of losing and no one can – or has been prepared to – explain why.

The ongoing commentary about poor recruiting decisions and the mediocrity of the list does not wash. Richmond might not boast a top four list but nor does its list rank in the bottom four. More than one-third of the way through the season it is time for the coaching group to accept as it surely has that it has failed dismally this year.

The club has warned against over-analysing the reasons behind Riewoldt’s comments. As horrified as the Tigers’ were by his apparently thoughtless disloyalty, they believe he is without guile and had no hidden agenda.

On Thursday morning he received a blast from the coach who did not rule out dropping him for the GWS game – he eventually didn’t – and was also lectured by executives Brendon Gale, Daniel Richardson and Simon Matthews.

He is believed to have been embarrassed and contrite and underlined his apology with repeated utterances relating to his strong affection for and admiration of the senior coach. He did not face the leadership group of which he was a part last year. None of which gets away from the fact that Riewoldt was clearly telling the truth when he said: ‘‘We probably tried to copy Hawthorn a little bit too much with our kicking style ... we went one way with our game and the game went the other way.’’ Or at least his version of the truth.

The genuine hope now is that the Tigers abandon damage control for five minutes and focus on the disconnect between the coaches and players. Clearly the message is not getting through for so many players to have been down against Melbourne given the stakes last Saturday. Half of the leadership group is failing on the field and collectively that quartet must be struggling off it.

If Riewoldt’s misgivings about the team’s direction are exclusive to him then that too needs to be thrashed out. Perhaps, and it is a belated hope despite empty comments by Brendon Gale and others that finals remain an ambition, the explosive Jack’s gaffe could prove the circuit breaker in tandem with the limp loss to the Demons.

Because the signs that something is not right at the club came long before the Tigers' listless round-one opening against the Gold Coast. In fact Richmond has not truly looked convincing as a team since – ironically – it defeated Hawthorn in round-19 last year.

What followed apart from some truly mediocre football was the Jake King, Toby Mitchell incident which dragged into summer, a series of Dustin Martin indiscretions culminating in him briefly walking out on the club and some perplexing off-field issues.

President Gary March, having achieved so much, left the club in a huff and almost did not attend the Jack Dyer Medal function. March was angry his man and a board split briefly shadowed the club. Peggy O'Neal was installed in a suprise decision.

Questions also remained regarding the quality of the coaching minds surrounding Hardwick after some departures in 2013 and then early this year came Riewoldt's omission from the leadership group and subsequent dummy spit.

Perhaps his ill-timed comments on Wednesday suggested that the rudderless onfield rabble we have seen on the playing arena in 2014 is being mirrored behind the scenes.

He ll be out of contract , how could a deal be struck , we finance a new one for another club , against the rules pal
If Dusty was insisting on leaving we are entitled to trade him if he agrees. This could be prearranged with GC, with Richmond paying part of his salary. Clubs trade out of contract players all the time. Including unrestricted free agents. Pal.

Dusty wants to leave? Fine but it just doesn't seem like dusty to want to change a club.
Every thing going well we improve a bit and make finals.
Dusty looks like he's got a couple more years in him.

At good money. 750 - 800k ? At punt road

I cringe at the club . but every decision along the way contributed to the flags.

Gale saved the club really. Peggy an inspired choice.

In any case we might have just set ourselves for a great trade period in 2024. Trade into good pick/s with clubs wanting points.

I like the slide approach where it makes sense. Be more strategic and longer term than other clubs and get free picks over a 2+ year time zone.

Even if we don't get a player with a trade we might just get ourselves a few first rounders. I love that we are in this position.

Yes a trade can be done , no a new contract couldn’t be drawn up with us paying part of , that could only apply if contract was still live

Want Josh Smillie. 194cm 92kg midfield beast from Eastern Rangers.

we'll never get him - likely will be in sydney on a 10+ year deal or will stay at the dogs

Reckon dogs will lose JUH, Smith and English - English to go back to Perth
I reckon theyll lose 2 of , and I’d be surprised if we got close to juh, if he leaves WB it’ll be interstate

Honestly with Dusty, Taranto, Hopper and now Macaulliffe I think our need for big mids has far lessened than what it was a couple of years ago. Big bodied mid isn't now a position of need, sure if they're best available take them but no need to target size specifically.

Key position stocks in general but specifically a KPF is where we need to nail a high pick or two.

I feel we are imbalanced by list profile (age) in this area, and with a top 6 pick incoming, if they are quick by hand, foot and mind and can develop outside game (potentially) we should leap at the opportunity!

UFA are only traded if the club getting them would be losing compensation they'd get by losing a free agent of their own.

For example we traded for Tarrant when we lost Chol, which allowed us to maintain the Chol compensation. Had we claimed Tarrant as a UFA we'd have seen our Chol compo reduced to either a R3 or no pick at all.

That's correct and that's why I'm saying that if Dusty wanted out, I'd trade him if possible and go after a FA like McCluggage. Dusty compo would not be reduced as we'd have traded him.

Unless the Suns have lost a player via free agency, there is no need for them to trade for him when they can sign him for free and we can't do a thing about it.

Because GC need cap relief and we could part with some of his salary for draft choice.
Why would we pay Dusty $$$ to play for Gold Coast as a 34 year old ?
There will be no 1st round draft pick like #7 and Dusty will only be a marketing tool at that age to them that would be covered under their marketing cap.

Dusty wont be getting traded for a good pick and we wont be paying his salary to play at another club

I’m talking about if Dusty insists on leaving(don’t want to happen)then try and trade him with some salary to get extra draft choice. I know that you will get stuff all for a 34 year old, but with a salary part paid you might.

Really cannot believe that people here still believe we will get anything significant for Dusty in a trade or free agency compo

he will be 34 years old playing for a new club guys and will be a 3rd rounder and thats all
Yep, I agree we will get SFA for Dusty. Even if another club offered in a ridiculous deal the AFL herbs and spices recipe would still pull out a 4th round pick (3rd at best).

Our best bet is he stays for a couple more on less money. If he does choose to leave, then we free up a shit load of cap space.

Undoubtedly one of the ALL Time Greatest sports superstars in the history of AUSTRALIA not just the AFL. Dusty will have a statue at the G and the AFL will potentially rename the Norm Smith medal after him one day. Go into his thread you wouldn't know any of that or that he enhanced the reputation and earning potential of anyone associated with him like Emma Murray, Peggy, Benny, Hardwick, Cotchin, etc.

90% of mentions of Dusty in Tigers threads are from so called die hard loyal Tiger Fans who want to sell him like another head of Cattle. He kicked one of the all time greatest goals last year where he had 5 instrumental touches in the passage from the D50 all the way to it splitting the middle. Because the media didn't catch on and replay ad nauseum was barely mentioned around here.

He shows up weeks early to preseason training to inspire and motivate the kids breaking all his PB's, actually demonstrating his love and passion for the club instead of hollow words at a media conference. Thats not good enough for people either. It's all about what can he be sold for. It's almost as disgusting as hearing someone wanting to take their daughter to Dubai as a portaloo seeing how much they can cash her in for.

I dont think their cap is as bad as it was a couple year ago. Plus let's not kid ourselves, if Dusty wants to go to GC the AFL will tip in as much as is required to make sure it happens.

I'm starting to think he'll stay anyway.

If Dusty insists on leaving them how is he signing a new deal with us so we can on trade him GC?

What you’re talking about is basically trading cap space for draft picks which the AFL currently doesn’t allow

Everyone talking like they're best mates with Dusty and have the inside word

Dusty going back to Castlemaine FC
