Gun mids are a lot easier to find than gun key forwards.

Trading for a key forward of JUH's age could really accelerate our rebuild, as if you're drafting one you're probably waiting 4 or 5 years to see if they develop into what he is right now.
Cost is too high , if we had 3 pics in top 25 they’d want every one of ‘em

Surely we'd get Freo's first for Baker, which perhaps along with our first or a future first would get JUH done?

Even with the injuries, I would do the Lynch deal again every day of the week.
Don’t think Baker would be a vice captain of the club if he was considering leaving at the end of the year. Just my opinion

Far too costly from a draft picks and salary perspective. Mortgaging your future on 1 player is fraught with danger and I just don’t think we are in a position to take that risk.
Yeah it all comes down to price doesn’t it.. risk to reward

Cash Broad and Baker in EOY, take the Graham compensation. If Balta up fwd experiment isn't a success poach either Ollie Lord or Mitch Georgiades for fair market value and Balta KPD next year. Hit the draft hard next few years. If JUH and English stay poach Sam Darcy. Keep playing the long game and Tom Green is Free Agent 2027. GC and GWS are overpaying all their guns again gradually plunder 2 or 3 including targeting Lachie Ash as a mid. Next 2-3 drafts must be nailed with no more 1st round busts. Must draft and develop the next Tom Lynch even if we use a few of 1st and 2nd rounders over next few drafts. Pick up another Ruck cheaply and we might be good to ride out the Tassie compromised drafts.

Remember when no one wanted Adam Cerra cos he was a spud? Geez he'd be handy right now. A bloke that can kick.

Pretty sure Richmond tried to get Cerra and rightly so. But they weren't prepared to pay a 22yo non-elite midfielder roughly 6% of the salary cap, where Carlton were prepared to do that. Elevating Cerra to that salary at that time would have not been in keeping with Richmond's finely balanced salary cap or the over-arching principle of paying players based on proven performance rather than potential.

2024 & 2025 big contracts expire, a new team is being built, and there are not so many proven top class performers clogging up the salary cap, so a new payment hierarchy can be developed. So the club might have well offer someone like Cerra a good contract on 6% of the cap after 2024, because he could potentially walk in and be in the clubs top 6 players from the outset. Next year that 6% of cap will be a $900k per year average contract. I expect we will be offering that much and more to players around Cerra's level or better. Other clubs will be doing the same. So the club just has to place a contract value on the players it wants to recruit and not go above that value.

In terms of draft picks I just think you are compelled to pay the going rate unless you are recruiting a player with an over-valued contract, like a Peter Wright, Brodie Grundy or Adam Treloar. The player market is like any market, if you are not prepared to pay enough you risk missing out. If you pay what the market demands there is a risk you overpay.

Until they can get more speed in that midfield, its going to be flogged.

we had 4 apparently inside/clearance mids in Prestia, Hopper, Taranto, Dow, who collectively lost to Rowell in that area, 20 to 14. That is about as bad as it gets.
Prestia is cooked, Dow is physically a horrible match up for Rowell and giving away way too much weight and strength there,

Hopper and Taranto should've done much better though, perhaps the match up after he started dominating should have been to send Hopper in a physical negating role to him as he at least has some sort of physical chance to compete, sacrifice your game as a clearance player at the stoppages but just don't let Rowell clear every single ball....

Rowell is 22 is the same age as Dow and he ragged dolled the 2x27yo players we just spent 2 years of draft picks on to keep us "relevant".

That is how out of touch we have been. And yes, Prestia is cooked & Dow is likely a bust, that just makes the moves we made worse - we were never competing with a cooked & horrible players in our 22. It was not time to "top up", it was time to "tap out". Club should have include a special 2017-2020 highlight package with every full club membership to make the days go faster.

Hopper and Taranto were brought in because we have a gap in class/experience in mids.
Who would be our starting midfield right now without Hopper and Taranto?
Hopper and Taranto would be helpful for the likes of Sonsie, Mcallif ect..

jep, only take a switch to flip for our midfield to look entirely different. prestia won't get another contract and if he does it'll be on peanuts as insurance. kmac and pickett have limited lifespans, we'll see them squeezed out this year. baker is likely to go with freo dangling big dollars and homestate. all of a sudden tarranto and hopper will make sense. we'll need mature, seasoned mids to shield the kids in there. didnt just get them across for dimmas last big swing.

I’m not so sure about that
Think it will be around the mark
He’s walk up best 22 and now vice captain

Pretty well decorated as well with multiple top 5 bnf and league most courageous award

He’s 26 so probably looking at a 6+ year deal as well

Including the tax to get a player to move clubs it’s probably going to look like 500 plus a season for Freo

Can argue with much of that but don’t think they will pony up their first for him, just my opinion. Don’t think he will leave us either fwiw

I’m probably more of a coin toss if he stays or leaves and can see the pros and cons for each outcome so happy to go along for the ride

I probably have his value sitting around a pick 15 - 18 that would probably get pushed out to around the pick 20 mark on draft night

I would be pretty dirty if the club let him go for any less but that value can be made up multiple ways as well if they didn’t have an exact pick in that range like a player and a pick or multiple slightly higher picks

Also they could give us a lower pick and we throw in some steak knives is also a possibility

Florent was other FA , so our targets that I’d reckon are gettable
Will heywood
Ollie florent
Josh battle
Would all improve our list , get two of
