Hello Tiger fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Why would we pay Dusty $$$ to play for Gold Coast as a 34 year old ?
There will be no 1st round draft pick like #7 and Dusty will only be a marketing tool at that age to them that would be covered under their marketing cap.

Dusty wont be getting traded for a good pick and we wont be paying his salary to play at another club
If he says he's leaving we get nothing. I'd take a second or 3 round pick rather than nothing and I'd pay some salary if it would improve the pick.

Not sure where this dusty wants out stuff is coming from.

Still reckon he is odds on to extend with us or retire.
Nobody has said he's leaving. It is just speculation by media. I agree he'll probably sign on but if he blatantly said he's going, then trading would be best option rather than RFA.

Of course he will. It's just stories made up to sell advertising and people with nothing else to discuss.

You guys really do over rate draft picks

paying $200k of his salary to move up from pick #44 to pick #25 means jack squat

Then you are losing out on getting a free agent that may come with that extra $200k that you have just given away

Then we have people squabbling about a player like Himmelberg not being worth $750k a year and missing out because they say thats too much and he is only a $650k player

Unless its a top 10 draft pick then its an over rated pick and no team is giving up a top 10 pick for a 34 year old dusty
doesnt matter what amount of his salary you pay

Surely it all depends on where he wants his life to be. Didn't he like Sydney? He could basically move where he wants to, Sydney or Queensland, and the afl would tip in marketing salary so a new club would have him pretty cheap. Either way for us this is his last year on big dollars, he would then be welcome to stay or welcome to do a bit of a hodge. Legend forever, but he won't provide us with any draft capital now. Don't think we have very nuch to get more draft capital u less it's a salary dump, and I think recruiters knew that when they went ahead and picked up those extra spots. What do we have 5 or 6 spots in the first 3 rounds now?

To be honest, where he wants to live will have zero bearing at this stage of his career. He's got 2-5 years left, given he's already been in the system what 12-13 years, hanging on for another couple is not that big of deal, given when he does retire, he can move and live wherever he wants for another 50+ years...

IMO, moving to a new club to make 40 new friends with players, plus another 30 odd with coaches and staff would appear to be more of a negative impact than something he has lived in (and would be presumable comfortable with now) for the the last decade+

For Dusty it would be more about whether he really wants another flag and doesn’t see it happening at Tigerland

Bit different to the Hawthorn players who were basically told they weren’t going to get played/welcome when they still had a couple of years left and so took offers elsewhere

Looked up our picks to see what flexibility we have, our 1st, 2 second round picks, 3 third round picks and 3 fourth round picks

Round one pick
Round two pick
Round two pick (tied to Fremantle)
Round three pick
Round three pick (tied to Fremantle)
Round three pick (tied to West Coast)
Round four pick
Round four pick (tied to Port Adelaide)
Round four pick (tied to Collingwood, received from Essendon, originally received from Hawthorn)

Allows us to package picks to teams that need points and get to the sweet spot for draftees. We could easily have a great draft hand this year.

I am all for the strategy of being the team that is willing to trade out of a pick to teams that desperately want it, as long as we have a pool of players we view equally and so we get who we want plus another pick. Then using those picks to trade into better picks and so it goes on.

100% this. Plus the media will be even more all over him

We could very well find ourselves in a similar situation to 2021 where we had 5 picks inside 30, with smart trading & possible free agent/trade losses with Martin Graham Cumberland & Nankervis either restricted or unrestricted free agents who could draw interest as well as the likes of Ross Baker & Ryan out of contract at seasons end

FA's could create a ridiculous amounts of picks we can bundle.

Which then allows us to trade into a great position this year and into 2025 as well. And then doing the whole slide thing again can lead to a repeat in 2025.

Anyway, this is one thing that is exciting to me - our draft position this year.

Can't believe people are still having the Dusty might leave conversation. I reckon I've heard it half a dozen seasons in his career.

At least this time if he does leave for his retirement cheque, we've gotten all the elite footy we could have out of him. He's not going turning 34 years of age to be playing like 28 year old Dusty or nabbing B&Fs or AAs.

Too Bad i killed Snake_Baker

He would have been telling us Dusty will 100% be a Norf player next year

The AFL is going to stop clubs from trading down for lots of points/lower picks. It won't happen in 2024 but from 2025 onwards there is an intention to stop this activity. There is the possibility that if you trade down a first round pick you will not be able to take a father son or academy player in that round, forcing the club to use that first round pick.

Grain of salt at this stage but Bakers name has popped up on the draft/trades board
Out of contract this year non free agent

Would hate to lose him

Maybe a mid to late first rounder is his value imo

If the deal is better than ours I wouldn't begrudge him.
X2 premiership player that should yield us a nice return pick wise.

Same boat
I really rate him and would prefer to keep but if he wants to head back to WA that’s fair enough

He’s value trade wise is probably around its peak so if it did happen we should be able to get something fairly decent back be it pick(s) or a player

Love him but not sure he is a "we're a worse side without him" type of player, I think we can cover him if push comes to shove. We really need to find our next real A-grade from somewhere.

Again don't get me wrong I love Bakes.

I don't think you can lose players like Baker to be honest.

As a list goes through the transition we are, you need good honest footballers that set standards for the incoming kids to learn from.

He doesn't look like he would take, nor accept someone else taking shortcuts.

He might not be the star, but the fabric you build future success around TBH. Trading out players like him, would have a negative impact on our future contending window.

I get larrikin vibes from Bakes. I wouldn't be building a culture around him. Not saying he's bad at all, but saying he's not the sort of standard you're looking for in your post.

Might be a poor take by me.

I agree with this one

Great clubman and awesome to have around the club but I wouldn’t say he’s one that sets and pushes the standards either compared to like Taranto who is known to be the ultimate professional

Reid would be nice.lol
But I dare say Freo is probably our best bet as they need Leadership/culture.

Very poor take if you ask me.
