Re: Mitch Thorp?

I know b****r all about this Henderson bloke. I heard his name crop up a few times during draft discussions as some kind of default option. Very odd it was and hard to explain. I thought someone must have cloned Hansen and got it a bit wrong or something.

Anyway he might be worth looking at if it's a bit of a one-for-one type situation. Any trading should only be looked at as part of a larger plan as opposed to an act of desperation.

Re: Mitch Thorp?

Guessing you're not a fan Gilly?

I was a fan from what I saw pre-draft......post-draft I wouldn't want to speculate on character as it is all hearsay to me. His body sounds like a problem, could he string games together at AFL level before breaking down.....and then knowing the way the Hawks operate, pelican would want the world.

I was merely posting a common wisdom amongst psych professionals.....characterlogical flaws are notoriously hard to weed out.

Re: Mitch Thorp?

I am probably going to get torn to shreds but i would be offering up Walker for Henderson...they need another mid with Black and Power getting on.....I love Tex's dedication etc, but his disposal and decision making is poor...

Re: Mitch Thorp?

Well regardless of character or fitness, we are into him in a big way apparently. Personally, i wouldn't bother

Re: Mitch Thorp?

Jacobs and 3rd rounder for Dowler? Not sure how it would go but I'd try it.

They badly need a ruckman so they might go for it. Hard to expect Jacobs to hang around as 4th banana if there's chances elsewhere. And if Hawthorn want a ruckman badly enough it costs.

Hrmm, that's fair enough.

I think the consensus is that with the likelihood of Hartlett and Edwards being delisted, that we need a couple of KPP to develop.

I agree with you on the way Hawthorn operate. By all reports they sound like absolute #$%^'s to operate with. But they did float Thorp's name around last year so I guess if Carlton were keen then it could be a possibility.

But Dowler is such a goom-head. Just seeing him in the Navy-blue would be like having little insects crawling all over your skin, even if we were to get him cheap.

Re: Mitch Thorp?

Mate I would absolutley love to get this bloke, Put him next to Fev and have Brendan groom him to one day take his spot, I can see him in blue I truely can but I think we would have to use draft picks for a trade because honestly who would they want that we would trade for Thorpey?

Armfield/Bentick or both for Thorp maybe?

Even that is hard, Armfields grown on me and bentick is a great player but didnt get a chance this year for some reason but Im in man love with this Mitch Thorp bloke if he hadnt had the injuries its possible Hawks might be in a position to defend there title right now, haha.
And how would Armfield or Bentick fill our only 2 'problem' areas?

Both wouldn't even be close to our best 22.

I apoligise about the Bentick thing. You could grab Bentick in the PSD if you wanted to waste a few of his years and some money.

Army however is very highly rated by the Club. Would walk into your 22.

Not that he's going anywhere however.

Re: Mitch Thorp?

yeh i think we should try and get Thorp but it's gonna take more than Jacobs and a 3rd pick.
For an injury prone guy who has played 2 out of a potential 70-odd games, who shows very little at VFL level on the off chance he is actully fit?

We already have Hartlett filling the "could be anything if only he could get his body right" role at our club.

Maybe we should look at him, but the fact is the Hawks will trade on potential...........some sort of discount to a first rounder........and we will trade on reality............third round pick at best.

I don't know what the depth of talent is like this year, but I'd think Jacobs and a third round pick would be more than compensation for a guy that is heading towards the VFL full time.

Even when he was fit this year he was overlooked despite the Hawks lack of height across the ground (esp down back - preffering Campbell as a FB).

Buyer beware.......damaged goods.

Beware of Trading with the Hawks:

Re: Mitch Thorp?

So what would have changed this year?

He's still contracted.

But worth less in a trade negotiation, thats the difference + perhaps a stronger desire on Mitch's part to move for opportunity and the dawks wanting to get something for him while he is contracted instead of losing him for nothing to GC next years as an uncontracted player

it would have to be player for player swap here

Hartlett for Thorpe.

Thorpe was a higher pick......but Hartlett has played more footy AND shown some degree of ability at senior and VFL level.

Both will keep the medico's busy.

Win win. :thumbsu:

from a brisbane perspective, i wouldn't do this. we rate henderson through the roof, has had quite a few 7+ goal games in the reserves, and has performed relatively well in the limited senior games we have given him, whether it be in the ruck, down back, or occasionally up forward. being pick 8 in the 2007 draft, and being well ahead of where we estimated his progress to be at by this stage, we would be looking for at least a first rounder, and one higher than yours. walker, while showing some level of promise at times does have iffy disposal as you stated, and is injury prone, which would not really make him an exciting prospect for the lions.
