So we didn't encourage it at all?

The problem we have on the outside looking on is that what we see could just as easily be the result of the club telling him to look because we want to move him on, or the club telling him to look and come back to us with a best offer because we are being pressured to up his salary because a club is trying to pry him away.

Would we tell him to look if we wanted to move him on - YES
Would we tell him to look and get back to us if we were being played by his manager -YES

Do we have to trade him if we aren’t happy - NO

If we were being played by his manager while he's contracted, it'd be as simple as saying sorry, not happening.

The evidence is starting to mount up to support the fact our hand was forced.

How? He is contracted. If we wanted to control the narrative, the club could have nipped it in the bud and came out straight away by stating that he is contracted and a required player. The fact the club hasn't shows to me that we have actively told him to look around, which weakens the ability to get a good deal.

That’s the ‘do we have to trade him bit’.

If the managers playing us we force them to pay overs or no Cuban. There’s at least two ways to play a manager that’s playing us.

“PORT Adelaide has told Dougal Howard be ready to report to Alberton for pre-season, despite the key swingman telling the club he would like to join St Kilda if a trade can be brokered.”

“Dougal is aware that he is a highly valued, required player at Port Adelaide,” Davies said.

“Given he is contracted to the end of 2022, the club will only entertain a trade with St Kilda if it is in our best interests to do so.

Pay us what we are happy with or you’re going nowhere.

Yes, later on, after telling him to explore his options. It could have been shut down on day 1. Make, no mistake, the club told him to look elsewhere and that is what he has done. The club has done an extremely poor job of making him feel like a highly valued required player.

Read my earlier post. We don’t know ‘why’ the club told him that.

There’s no justification for it regardless. If people want to speculate that the club got wind of Dougal’s manager shopping him around, just say “yeah nah” and it’s done.

So your upset because the club said ‘only if it’s a really good deal that benefits us’ rather than ‘no’ ?

I guess that’s an easier stance to take if your not actually responsible for making the decision.

That there is the really important bit. It was NEVER in our best interests to entertain a trade. They never had anything that would be worth or while and the fact we would even consider trading a key position player says we don't know how to manage our list and our coaches dont care about height and structure. Now we've let Dougal know that he's expendable though. As I said, dumb.

Yes. Dougal is untradeable. Shut it down and move on.

You know that period of time between the end of the season and trade week where angry supporters say everyone is expendable for the right price...... then when it may actually happen we get upset.

Edit: I should add, if we suggested the he look without his manager playing games I’m pissed as anyone.
