My guess is the Saints asked if he wanted to move before they gave up a lot of capital to bring in new players for the new coach, and ultimately he decided he was ok where he is

Might as well see if Ratten is going to be better than he was at Carlton before committing to a spud team

At pick 12 will you be getting better value than a 200cm key position player who is 23? Is it a crap shoot? Yes. And you want to give them a 2nd back as well. No thanks.

That values Howard at pick 31.

It was just a rough guess of a balanced trade.

Howard's honest value would be around the 18 mark. I don't want us to trade him, but that's realism. If we want to get the 12 pick, we'd have to give up something, so 29 is 600ish points. And the gap of 12 to 18 is about 300ish. So really at best maybe we could get a future 3rd as well, or add in a future 4th.
