No use and a massive burden on the environment? Sounds a lot like us tbf.

Depends if you think the only point to life is the reproduction of genetic material.

Animals aren’t bred because the world needs food. Supermarkets throw out food every day that they can’t sell because there is over supply.

They are bred for profit.

It’s the same thing with overfishing in the ocean. Dragnets pull in everything, and fishermen don’t give a **** that they are killing an entire ecosystem by discarding what they claim as rubbish in search of profit.

It’s an entire mentality of actually respecting the world as a whole and realising that we are the tenants of a house we are trashing that needs to change.

Mutual aid instead of competition.

I continue to eat meat because I'm too lazy to switch to a vegetarian diet. I should at least be cutting out beef but yeah, there's that laziness. You should kinda feel a level of guilt about meat consumption (effect on the environment, torture of animals) that the default response isn't to be obnoxious about eating meat.

Who cares lol

Everyone that has enjoyed an overseas holiday has done more harm to the atmosphere than I ever will cruising around in my 50 year old pre emission control standards V8. I'm a terrible person but I can take solace in that I harm the environment less than most Australians.

I haven't bought a new phone in like, six years.

I know people will bring up that damn 'we should improve society somewhat' meme but come on, at what point do we as a culture accept that maybe we need to settle for less to do that? Rather than inventing better ways to have the same or more luxury?

My mums family didn't buy meat for years. Pop went out and shot Roos and rabbits and raised chickens. There was literally no torture and no environmental waste.

Urbanisation and centralisation, and modern lifestyles is destroying the world.

I blame Ken for the arguments about climate change and vegetarianism.

If he was even moderately competent doing his job we would all be discussing who would be shutting down Dusty or how to keep Grimes out of the game. But no instead we are bitching about the state of the planet.

He should be sacked for this

I’m not sure how this flows from what I said but I agree with it.

lol you knob

Mushrooms grow a bunch of places that dont require deforestation is my point not that 100% of proteins should come from them and ppl should starve because of it. Its all part of how you address the problem, but I see why you want it black and white and its because your argument doesnt stand up to real scrutiny

Proteins are everywhere if you need them. Big fat vats of it sometimes, others from mushrooms/fungi, beans have proteins, heaps of options.

I’m not vegetarian but its stupid to pretend its impossible for large numbers of people to live that way without causing catastrophe

The Netherlands provides a great example high yield crops with very limited land space. The potential issue comes from crops being used to produce biofuels instead of food which is increasing as we move away from fossil fuels. Brazil has a massive biofuel industry because it has the available land but many other countries do not. Despite this, Brazil has faced criticism over using its land for sugarcane crops destined to be biofuel (our resident Brazilian may be able to shed more light here). In other countries, deforestation is a very real problem as we have seen with palm oil (~50% used in foods and ~50% in biodiesel) plantations in Malaysia and Indonesia and the impact that has had on biodiversity. In fact, African countries are increasing their palm oil production as is China. We can already grow plants without dirt, once we can do it to scale, it'll solve the food abundance issue and maybe the energy issue as well.

tactical operators, youll be thanking them when there's an active situation which requires their particular set of skills and expertise

Drinking Melbourne bitter and listening to Protomatyr at mum and dads place makes you a tactical operator?

Depends on how much you drive. I remember reading somewhere that a return trip from Sydney to London produces about 5 tonnes of carbon dioxide per passenger, which is roughly 150 grams per kilometre. Your HQ probably produces more than double that figure, which means you’d emit the equivalent 5 tonnes after roughly 16,000 kms.

I've done 3000 miles in six years, so maybe in another decade I'll come close to that?

What do you base that figure on?

Anyway, you missed the main point.

When do we accept we need to settle for less?

Because how many vegans say "lets stop eating meat in a generation or 2"?
How about within six years. Thats enough for food and dairy animals to largely meet end of use by current industry standards.

As i said, it was a hypothetical.
Pretty dumb hypothetical, relying as it did on instant unplanned universal and chosen change.

Nice adhom/strawman double. Let me take out the abuse and irrelevant to argument bits.

Yes. Good luck with feeding 7.53 billion from your "basement".

So knob is ‘abuse’, and despite me saying that no shit a basement isn’t a universal solution (the bit you cut for your convenience), you pretend again that it is

lol you’re an obtuse knob, flailing worse than any pro-vegan actual or imagined

The average new car these days emits 150-200 grams per km but V8s are still in the 250-300 grams per km zone. I don’t know what your HQ produces but I doubt it’s below 300, so I based it on that (it could well be much more mind you).

You only drive 800 km per year, which is extremely low, so it would take you roughly 20 years total to emit the same as someone flying to London return assuming 300 grams per km is around the mark.

As for when will we settle for less, the answer is definitely never.

There's been a few months where I have driven the HQ daily. Certainly not all year but driving it as the everyday car would be maybe triple that?

I mean, if everyone just lived ten minutes away from everything we'd use a lot less of everything, which brings me back to me other sticking point.
