You are right. No-one at Freo will be happy about losing Warnock, no matter what we get back. Pick 6 will ease the pain slightly, though.;)

Only problem is it won't happen. lol. I think you'll get a 3rd round pick plus a fringe player. Freo usually stuff up their draft picks and/or their player development anyway, so it shouldn't be a concern. :)

I can see a major shafting coming on, it is fremantle after all.

Trouble is the mob that did all the deals, shonks and shafting are now at Melbourne FC. That is my most happy thought that Schwabby would be working out 101 deals all more complicated than the next.

Harvey in his one test to date at the trade table ...hled his nerve and pissed off his old club massively. That was just small fry but hey he got a tick in the box for holding his nerve.

Under which AFL regulation?

Campbell is an outstanding young KP forward who was a top 25 draft pick.

A pick in the second and fourth round from Melb means we and Melb are good at settling a figure which is not like the Veale deal totally out of the realms of fairness.

In an unrelated matter - we could not come to terms with Carlton and it is unfortunate that Warnock walked into the PSD.

It would be safe as houses unless someone shows me something other than I read somewhere that the AFL would investigate.

If he puts a large price on his head to scare Melb ...well looks like another year in purple and you guys can have another go next year.
freo trade kiwi +5th round pick to the dee,s for pick 17 + 4th rounder and included in the deal freo are prepared to pay x amount of kiwis wage for the next 2 years.
which in turn allows dees to meet warnocks demands in the psd

the afl will not investigate anything, it is a legitimate trade for a fair player
some of the carlton supporters are claiming russell, browne, armfield are worth 2nd round picks why isnt kiwi.
richmond gave 19 for mcmahon
pies gave 8 for wood

why is 17 any diffrent for kiwi.

What I am getting at is that if the blues put his value to them at pick 17 (for arguments sake) but because of the strong position they say "pick 24 or nothing" aren't they the teensiest bit concerned that Freo will cut off their nose to spite their face. After all this is freo.

And the second thing is: this is not a win win situation for Carltom.

It is a win: staus quo position.

Get the trade done for 24 they essentially win 7 places.
Don't get it done then there is no change.

From Freos perspective is a bit more complicated. They can either break even with a good result, settle for 24 or lose him for self respect.

When it invariably comes done to the last five minutes and freo are still not accepting 24 does anything change or is that when we are meant to crack.

lol. Freagle supporter, you just won't get anymore than 24, because

(A) We don't want him that bad

and

(B) We know that if you don't take it, you'll get zipo. So we have all the leverage..

If he falls into the PSD for nothing, it won't bother the Blues in the slightest. BTW had to laugh when a Tiger supporter just surfaced giving advice on how to cheat the trade system. lol. Only last year the AFL warned Richmond they would be penalized if then organized a trade cheating deal with the Weagles. Short memories. lol. :)

what a parrot,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
$1,400,000 dollars for a player that has played 21 game says
you want him really bad

Who needs pick 24? :thumbsu:

Fremantle have two choices here:

1. Swap Warnock for selection #24. Nice - easy - done.
2. Play hard ball, lose Warnock for nothing, and continue their reputation as a club that continually drops the ball during trade week.

I really would have thought that the decision would be pretty easy.

If it was Gibbs going back to Adelaide would it be that easy? Obviously Gibbs is worth more than Warnock but pick 24 by itself isn't close to his worth.

If pick 24 is your offer a fortnight before trade week we'd be silly to take it and the Blues know that it won't get the deal done.

Based on what? The amount of games he's played? His ripping ability to turn a game on its head? His height?

What's he done that says he's worth more than 24?

By that logic Lachlan Hansen and Gumbleton are worth 2nd round picks too.

How many talls could turn a game on its head in their 3rd season? Riewoldt, Pavlich, Brown, there's not many.

Try 900k over 3 years. i.e. cheaper than McMahon. :)

So you accept the part of the article which states his preference is Carlton but reject the part of the article where they state a price.

Interesting concept.

I don't accept he has nominated Carlton. The footy media mostly fabricate, and anything that works out to be true is by pure accident. We do know that Freo will be shafted if he nominates Carlton, just because of the trade rules and the fact he's out of contract. However the shafting would be more extreme if he nominates the Dees. :)

The fact that Warnock has nominated Carlton puts Fremantle on the back foot, and they have little or no leverage in this deal. They take what Carlton is prepared to offer, or they lose him for nothing. Just like the Judd deal last year.

Last year you had the PSD as leverage.

If Carlton low ball Fremantle and won't budge what are Warnock's options? He can either agree to a trade to Saint Kilda/Richmond/Melbourne, or spend two months without a club waiting for the PSD, then probably end up at Melbourne anyway. With that in mind Carlton will have to offer more than pick 24 or miss out (which some of you probably won't mind but the fact that he's been offered $1.4M is a pretty good indication that your club wants him).

This is a big trade for Carlton. Lets say Fremantle reluctantly accept pick 24 by itself. The eagles are still filthy that they didn't get true value for Judd, so you'd have both WA clubs off side. It would make it difficult for you to draft any WA boys in the next few drafts, because Fremantle and the Eagles would offer them the world if they show any promise in the hope of squaring the ledger with Carlton.

No matter what the Dockers do with the Dee's........it means nothing.

Warnock can just simply out price the Demons when entering the pre-season draft, so any shiffty deal between melbourne and freo would be to no avail as the Dee's could not afford him.

Melbourne will be paying the bare minimum in the salary cap next year. They can only dream about offering what we could for a players services.

Gotta love these Melbourne power point presentations.:D:D

So Warnock ends up at West Coast? I'm sure he'd be stoked with that.

I know ruckmen aren't supposed to be overly smart.......so someone should explain to Robbie before he does this that the Dees have picks 17 and 19, one of which they will use to get him..........nominating for any draft means he wears Red and Blue next year.........at least in the PSD he could nominate a contract as well that might price the 92.5% Dees out of the market.

I havent read thru the whole thread but it'd surely be another journo error - Denham got those 2 drafts mixed up on KB's show last week too.

4 years sounds too long given our usual practise these days, so not sure about that. Would give us the option of front-loading even more on the first year, and deter the clubs with PSD picks before us.

......yes......I'm sure WCE are about to recruit an ex-Vic ruckman that doesn't want to be in WA.......its not like the "Go home" bug has hurt them at all.

Think. Then post.
