Warnock update: According to Denham

So basically Campbell for 17 & change would be allowed to go through...as it is over market price but not by much.

Plus it gives us a pick ahead of the Eagles at 18 and that is important as we are probably chasing the same WA player if the draft goes as I think it may.

I'm not expert so i can't say i know all the details. But that is what was said, and you can bet your bottom dollar that the AFL will be more than aware of any on goings during trade week.

If Fremantle can get away with it, goodluck to them. Just can't see how they will.

No matter what the Dockers do with the Dee's........it means nothing.

Warnock can just simply out price the Demons when entering the pre-season draft, so any shiffty deal between melbourne and freo would be to no avail as the Dee's could not afford him.

Melbourne will be paying the bare minimum in the salary cap next year. They can only dream about offering what we could for a players services.

Gotta love these Melbourne power point presentations.:D:D

You`re missing the point entirely buddy.

Freo also have a PSD pick before Carlton, so do a couple of other clubs, and we have a fair bit of salary cap space.

I`m not saying that we`ll use it to get back at Warnock but the option is there, as the Blues hierarchy will no doubt be aware of.

If Carlton are willing to offer Warnock 1.4m over 4 years they are serious about getting him.

IMO it will take pick 24 and a fringe/AFL standard player minimum:thumbsu:

that big dopey bastard is NOT worth No. 6 pick let alone round 1 pick.
haha.. we are going to be hated even more now as it seems we have succesfully f*^ked over both WA clubs in Trade Week:D:thumbsu:

Dock King has a point. That was the exact threat we used for Thornton when he was seeking a trade to the dawks
The only difference now is that there is a much stronger push by the AFLPA to have some sort of limited free agency but the crux of their objective for movement of established players is that they get to the club of their choice for reasonable compensation. It will only take one more Veale deal where an established player ends up at a club not of his choice and the AFLPA and the AFL will be heading for the courts. It is as simple as that.

The most important factor in the Warnock deal, or any other for that matter is how single-minded and adamant the player is to get to his nominated club. If he holds firm then the club he is leaving has reduced negotiating power.

You'll get fined and lose draft picks if you try to cheat the trade rules. Do you really think Freo would risk this to get pick 17 instead of 24? :)

Under which AFL regulation?

Campbell is an outstanding young KP forward who was a top 25 draft pick.

A pick in the second and fourth round from Melb means we and Melb are good at settling a figure which is not like the Veale deal totally out of the realms of fairness.

In an unrelated matter - we could not come to terms with Carlton and it is unfortunate that Warnock walked into the PSD.

It would be safe as houses unless someone shows me something other than I read somewhere that the AFL would investigate.

If he puts a large price on his head to scare Melb ...well looks like another year in purple and you guys can have another go next year.

If you're using the position he was taken in the draft as a reason to bump up his currency (ie. all top 25's picks must be worth something), what's so wrong with our pick 24 for Warnock? :D

Outstanding young KP forward LMAO!!!!

10 games in 5 years suggests otherwise. Adam Hartlett board.

Come on, lets get past the whole speculative posturing and "who's gunna do what to make a stand" stuff.

Warnock will nominate a club, sounds likely that it will be us, we will make an offer which isnt unreasonable (pick 24 and a fringe player or 3rd rounder and a regular player or there abouts) and we will move on. It wont be a big trade in the scheme of things and everyone will be reasonably compensated.

We did the same for Judd last year and despite the odd grumble from weagles supporters, it was a reasonable deal and certainly much more than any other club would have given if he had nominated them!

Coming on here and saying "yeah but the dockers are gunna prove we wont get walked over" is a bit churlish and certainly wont be how those who broker the deal will operate.

What warnock is worth?? Well Im sure that his value to the blues will be taken into account in his salary.

What will the Dockers get? Probably a bit less than they hope but certainly enough for them to take it rather than for the deal to fall over and he go into the draft.:thumbsu:

Big clubs like Carlton Collingwood or Essendon may just get away with something like that, but a penne ante franchise like the shockers would be slapped like a red headed stepson by demitrou and co.

haha such ignorance. Look at profit, members etc. Carlton are not a big club.

JON pick 8
Pfeiffer pick 17
Hughes pick 24

Bigger chance we'll get worse. Warnock is an outstanding prospect, I would go so far as to say there will not be one ruckman drafted this year who will have a better career than him. Anything less than a top ten pick and you guys win. Draft picks are ridiculously overrated on this website and this draft isn't half as strong as some uninformed people on this website seem to think.

Interesting - given that it was only yesterday morning i heard Scott Clayton saying this draft year is the strongest he's seen for rucks.

To state that the likes of NicNat and Vickery won't have better careers than Warnock (#42) makes it exceptionally difficult to take anything you have to offer seriously my friend. ;)

I realise the Eagles are a mighty club, having half or more of WA behind them, but seriously... by any measure, the Blues are a big club.

40,000 members this year in a city with 10 clubs is big. 16 premierships is big. Reputation is big. Expectation is big. Rivalries that matter. 110+ years.

Carlton is big.

You need to understand this is not about Carlton winning. It's about Fremantle losing. :thumbsu:

Trading with a Club with the intent to force someone into the PSD is illegal and cheating. Just a fact. Do it and you'll ...

1) Get fined
2) Lose draft pick(s)
3) Might not get anything for Warnock anyway, because the trade will be revoked.

Good luck. lol. :)

:thumbsu:

Doesnt Freo have to do their best to get their player to the club of their (the players) choice?? The player cannot be traded somewhere where he doesn't want to be.....?

If the Blues are serious, which they seem to be, surely its just a matter of the finer details between Freo and the Blues.

Seriously you must be 15 years old - our crowds and profit this year will eclipse your mobs. This will be the norm for the foreseeable future too so get with the program.

What? So we should do our best to help a bloke who walks out on us fulfill his dreams of playing with another club by accepting whatever offer they present? I don't think so.

You all know it's going to take a first round pick to get him. Either use pick 6 or find another first rounder somewhere. Looks to me like we'll convince him to play at the Saints or Richmond.

You don't understand what "out of contract means". In a nutshell you'll get somewhere between a 2nd round pick and nothing. You can bleat all you want, but that's just the reality. :)

Yeah, u should, otherwise you wont recieve anything for him at all......
If freo are smart  they will do whats best for all involved or risk losing all, Carlton aren't over a barrel, Freo are.

1st round pick wont happen, you're dreaming.

Have fun trying to convince him to go to another club... you couldnt even convince him to stay at Freo, goodluck!

How long's Trevor Nisbett been at Fremantle?
