Watching his press conference he was pretty transparent that Adelaide is where he really wanted to end up.
It's good to have local kids that love the club and you don't have to worry about them leaving after at the first opportunity, or the club having to overpay them to keep them.
Double edge sword, the clubs remain loyal to them like Smith and Laird.

It's great when a genuine fan of the club gets to play for that club.

So Port traded up one spot to get Joe Berry.

I've never understood pick trades that move you up a single spot. Surely if the club you're trading with wants the player you're going to pick, then they won't do the trade. And if they agree to the trade, they weren't going to take them anyway, right?

West Coast just picked the best local lad with their pick, they were never going after the player Port wanted. Why give up pick 45 for nothing?
This may have already been answered, but I presume Freo were keen. If Freo knew Port were also keen on Berry and contacted West Coast, West Coast may have got on the phone to Port.

No different to Sloane, or eventually Tex.

That said, it's league wide thing. Coaches tend to be quite slow to admit that someone the club has relied on for a decade doesn't have it anymore. Especially if their production is in the weird twilight zone of diminished but hasn't genuinely fallen off a cliff.

It's probably where mantras such as form is temporary, class is permanent comes to bite a selection group.

He's shown the scope that he will in his stint. 17 disposals as a 2nd year player on a wing is nothing to scoff at, especially when paired with 0.4 goals/0.7 goal assists (The GA was rated elite for midfielders, and there aren't a lot of wings above 1 GGA).

He's a bit of a quiet achiever, but Dowling should probably be our number 1 wing coming into next year to see if 17 disposals can be pushed to 19-20 and what that it does to the offensive numbers.

Well the what if in regards to not getting done for draft tampering to keep Tippett.

Dowling has high footy iq which is essential for a winger, doesn’t get sucked into the footy and let his opponent get an easy out the back, does a lot of unrewarded running pushing back to fill holes and take space plus spreads well despite knowing he probably isn’t going to get the ball even if he’s in a better position than a more senior player.

When they dropped Dowling and moved hinge to a wing post the geelong game we got found out big time, hinge was running around like a headless chook ball hunting and his opponent cleaned up with uncontested ball.

Welcome Sid.

He's exactly what we need, and I am still gobsmacked that we didn't try anything cute to **** it up!

I'm sure there would have been temptation with Norf doing Norf things.

It's been a long time since I've been 'genuinely' excited about the Crows list/trajectory. I'm still tempered a little with Nicksy at the helm, but I'm almost starting to believe..... almost.

I'll be a full believer if Smith plays SANFL and Laird is nowhere near the middle.
