They were down but we did lift our intensity in parts. It's just that Sydney were classier, stronger, more experienced, more everything.

The first quarter was a huge missed opportunity to put scoreboard pressure on them. Sydney were not switched on at the start.
And those 2 missed goals at the start of the second by Larkey.

We got absolutely demolished at clearance, Xerri got destroyed by Grundy, every single ball bounced their way and they got away with throwing it about fourteen times

17th vs 1st. A cooked Wardlaw, LDU being held at every single centre bounce, Sheezel well held and nothing of note from Powell or Simpkin. Staggering we couldn't find a place for Phillips in the side when Seeing Impaired Frederick could have predicted Gulden having 40 and Warner having 30 & two goals. Sure am glad we played Curtis Taylor in his spot.

Sydney are a great side that are immeasurably benefited by playing on a ground designed by Derek Zoolander. The real SCG should be at least four times that size.

Lost this at selection.

Phillips had to play and tag Warner.
Why Shiels didn’t play on Gulden is beyond me.
McDonald can’t kick so make him smother Papley.

As for the gameplan the short kick chip possession style has undone the Swans so what does the brain up in the box do? Doesn’t bring back Fisher.

Anyone else not as flat after that result? I don't really care, Sydney were always going to bounce back on their home deck, by a big margin. We played shit, eh it happens.
Had that feeling going into the second half.

It was just a really bad day made more apparent by the fact our best players were completely overwhelmed.

They are much better this year, playing at the SCG. It’s not a 1:1 comparison.

And it never will be while we continue accepting this sh!t.

We’ll sit here and stroke our beards and fawn over how much Sydney have improved and how there’s nothing we can do about that. Mitchell and his Hawks have proven that they can take it up to anyone. Why are we so mediocre and poor with our expectations?

Pretty much.

They are an incredibly powerful side. 3 losses with a combined margin of 8 points.

Hate to say but the flag is theirs. People are sleeping on how dominant they have been.

We’ve had a few weeks of being very competitive against a lowly peer and a few mid-table teams. It’s very much better than we’d got used to but Sydney at the SCG this year is another level and today - possibly for the time being - we don’t have the gears to step up to that.

We Know Where We Are As A Footy Club(TM). Disappointing day but doesn’t change how much better I’m feeling about the future.

Firstly; we have to stop creating autopsy threads before the game is over. It's annoying.

Secondly; every single player was poor today. Even our stars like Sheezel and Xerri.

Thirdly; I said it several times in the game-day thread, but dropping Will Phillips for this game was beyond stupid.
LDU was far from poor. He was a lone hand in the guts all day, used the ball well and laid 7 tackles, and had 34 PAs.

The rest of the midfield was ****ing puss.

Agree with all of this plus their forwards seemed to give them marking options all day compared to ours who gave us literally nil. We desperately need a tall fwd who can take a pack mark.

Has to be questioned and held to account: any peanut can sit in a box getting paid a million dollars to watch a bunch of 1st-round picks show their stuff. Even if you do nothing, occasionally they’ll win.

Sometimes you need to actually COACH.

Hawks lost to Sydney this year - 42 to 118.

Bit of a nothing game and hard to take anything away from it when the whole team were so flat.

Didn’t get to watch any of it. Geez ugly scoreline. Any quarters /parts worth watching on the replay?
No, save yourself the trouble.

To a man we were flat as a tack and it shows in the performance.
