I’m sure he will. Could go either way for Sonny. Push on like Mundy if he improves and plays a valuable part or be pushed out if it isn’t for the advantage of the club just like Conca after about around 8 last year.

One thing in his advantage is his exquisite skills - like that early lace out foot pass to Lobb. I don’t like how easily his being brushed aside. The way both he and Henry are being bushed aside is a liability having them both. Switta used to be the same but he has worked on his technique and isn’t ao easily brushed off.
The problems I see are that his pace and leap have gone. And I reckon that leads him to compensate with staging and head throwing.

Walters like a handful of others had very small returns today, but the first two goals were 1) from his tackle that spilled the ball out to Schultz and 2) a classic pass to leading Lobb. The only decent entry into the forward 50m in the 3rd quarter was another Walters pass to Lobb who couldn't convert his set shot.

Longmuir is backing him as the older head teaching the forward line, so I don't think he'll be dropped in a hurry in an area of the ground desperately lacking in class.

I do wonder whether the incidents at the end of the game are the ones foremost in people's minds. In the frenzy in the last 2 minutes of the game he went to the ground lunging at marking contest from a hacked under pressure kick out of defence kick by Clark. That wasn't him not competing or looking for a free kick, he was bodied to the ground in a marking contest by a much taller and stronger player in Doedee in a better position, and again outmarked when there were two taller players under the skied kick when Brayshaw was called to play on.

Have a look at it. Its not Walters job to compete in the air against talls.

My thoughts on the team:
  • Erasmus, Johnson and Amiss are the future of our club, we need to get games into them asap.
  • Bottom 5 of our 22 squad (this round): Henry, Walters, Banners, Acres and Treacy all need to start showing stuff or get dropped. Literally 3 of our bottom 5 are forwards and we wonder why we struggle to score.
  • Entry into the forwardline: haven't seen this mentioned yet but I saw a lot of bombs into the forwardline. A failed tactic that will never get us a premiership.
  • Josh Carr as a midfield coach isn't working

Regards to forward line, thought it was open and one on one in the first half. Lobb was looming.
Have to remember Treacy first game of any kind (?) even pre season wise. Lobb and Treacy is going to be tough to get it done.
Lobb should’ve had 3, Treacy 2 and Banfield 2. Frederick had chances. It wasn’t too bad. The second half was a mess.
Get Darcy back next week and have Lobb full time forward makes it easier. Meek was great in large parts of the game. Would definitely have Darcy and Meek in with Lobb and Treacy.
Need Sturt. A key medium tall. He instantly replaces Banfield.
8.9 at half time was nice. Should’ve been 11.6 and game over.
There’s lots that can change the forward line. Cox should be in there given how poor he was. Hamling should be in this team. Logue very lucky alongside Cox.

Lots to say about the game but most has already been said. We were 3-7 on the road last year, so if we want to play finials we need to win games like this. There was a hell of a lot of heart and determination at the end to stop the crows and swing the momentum in our favor. Three unanswered goals at the end speaks volumes. Good teams find ways to win games and they did just that. Even without their best ruckman, best goal kicker, and best midfielder at stoppages. Four points is four points.

Thank god....those cheating umpires didn´t get their way again.

2021 Round 1. Adelaide Oval. Crows v Geelong Crows 31 free kicks Geelong 16.
2021 Round 2. Adelaide Oval. Crows v Fremantle Crows 32 free kicks Fremantle 16.

Thank you Fremantle.
AFL doesn’t want teams fans to lose too early.

Very corrupt organisation and umpiring.

I’ve watched that 3 times now, each time it starts I’m still sure we aren’t going to win.

I along with many others really wanted to see how Sonny did after a proper preseason.
I think he should get 3-4 games, he was short of match practice and I think he deserves a chance to show he can get into it.
There is a big risk it is a full decline though, even after accounting for changed roles.

I will acknowledge I did waver from that philosophy during the fourth quarter.
On the positive side my wife knew what was happening with the game even though I was 2 doors down.

If the back line is too top heavy.

Who goes out?

Pearce, Cox, Logue or Ryan.
Based on yesterday's game it would have to be Cox, he had a very poor game. Without Logue we lose that game, he was a rock in the third when many seemed to have dropped their bundles.

I'd roll Cox forward for Treacy and bring in either Walker or Aish to balance the defence a bit.

If Ryan doesn't play tall he doesnt seem nimble enough to play on the mids or smalls. Would live with it if he provided some drive out of defence but doesn't seem to add much offensively for someone with a pretty decent right peg.

As bad as we have been in recent years with so many things is it just me or is our record in nail biting finishes actually ok?
Yeah I think it is pretty good unless the umpires manage to inject themselves into the action for all the wrong reasons.

That last two minutes yesterday is incredible because there are a handful of non-calls that didn't go our way but we also didn't give the umpires a chance to call anything against us.

Supporting this club is literally groundhog day. Missing Fyfe and Darcy wasn't the problem - the problem was that when the Crows actually competed at anywhere close to AFL standard we reverted to dump kicks either down the line or deep into our forward 50. On the odd occasion we came away with the ball, we missed the goals.

I love this club for many reasons, but that game was easily the most disheartening experience I've had since we started rebuilding.

Obviously not all is lost and hopefully it was an outlier, but all the preseason optimism has left the building for me until we turn in a performance away from home where we take our chances and actually execute.

Walters uses the ball too well to be wasted deep inside fifty, he also uses it too well to not be heavily tagged if he plays a high half forward role. If I'm an opposition coach I'm writing every Walters kick between wing and the 50 as a mark and set shot against. There isn't anyone else besides Henry and Mundy who come close to that. You can tag Henry too.
