Actually concerns me. Last few times we have made mass changes and theoretically had a better team we have been flogged. Concerned we may lose by a record margin to a Geelong team that is used to destroying us

There’s been a legit chance we could lose by a record margin a few times already this year - what’s a few more? 😬

Yeo isn't playing midfield

Sheed -> Clark
Yeo -> Foley/Nelson
Petrucelle -> SPS
Rioli -> Winder
Jones -> Nelson/Foley
McGovern -> Edwards
Bazzo -> Witherden

Can we stop complaining that Yeo is replacing Clark? If anything it's Sheed who's taken his place after 3 weeks in the WAFL first to earn his spot.

Yeo and Jones are replacing Foley and Nelson's roles, surely we can agree that's a good thing given the form of the latter?

Still don't see where the merit in Jones as a defender comes from either.

He may be quick, but he doesn't run lanes, so provides no rebound.

On the other hand has doesn't seem to have the slightest clue of being defensively accountable at all.

It will be a disaster if he ends up "marking" Tuohy, Stengle or Close.
So exactly the same as Witherden except he’s quick.

Spot on. Our team has been putrid all year but especially our backline. Weve dropped most of the backs this week and get to see a more exciting backline in Jones, Yeo and Mcgovern across HB.
I dont expect a lot from Yeo this week but at least at HB, he wont have to run as much. Remember he is an All Aust HB. Many here didnt ever want him in the midfield.

Is it just me or do others see Gaff playing inside mid as a massive coaching error. Gaff as a winger used to be an A grader and would at worst be a really good wing in his link up work.

When Sheed and Kelly join Gaff at centre clearances and stoppages (especially without NicNat giving silver service), I would expect the defenders to be dirty. Guv aside as he will think the quick transition will give him another great intercept option.
C,mon brother, this has been banged on about here.
Unfortunately, a lot has been vitriol towards Gaff.
Play him on a wing, 2 times AA. Coaching 100%....should not be inside at all.
Looks to have slowed down a bit, but the crap he cops on here is a bit uncalled for. IMHO,

Witherden at least knows how to get into positions where he can accumulate the ball, averaging 24 disposals per game and is leading the club for metres gained. Those disposals have also come at 85% effectiveness.

His contested defence one-on-one loss rate is ranked 3rd at the club among players that have faced 10 or more such situations, behind only McGovern and H.Edwards.

It could easily be argued that many members of the team are performing at a level far worse than that, yet are retaining their positions.

Jones is currently averaging half the amount of both disposals and metres gained per game. Those disposals are coming with a comparative 12% reduction in effectiveness. Jones also concedes more clangers and free kicks against per game than Witherden.

Defensively, (from a perspective of actually having to mark someone, rather than just chase ball and tackle) Jones is a complete non-entity. Drifts off his opponent, gets caught ball-watching, doesn't recognise when a switch is coming, and does nothing to cut off lead-up space when it is created ahead of him.

But sure, he is quicker.

I like the ins - we’ve cleared out some of our biggest ball burners this week in Naish, Witherden, Edwards and Nelson. If nothing else, efficiency should improve (in theory?)

Happy to have Yeo back, hopefully he gets a decent crack at it.

Shame to see Clark go out as he’s a hard worker but I guess they have picked West over him this week with Yeo returning. Could he sub?

Shame Ryan hasn’t got up (I assume?) but he looked underdone and disinterested at times in the WAFL - hopefully not far off.

You’d hope it’s a sign they only want guys out there that ready to go at 100%.

Will be an interesting game to see if the likes of Yeo, Shuey, Willie and Gov can navigate a wet Saturday (and let’s face it, probably a 10 goal loss), without copping another injury.
I don’t think hedwards is a ball burner. His disposal is good. He has dropped off a bit in his marking and defensive work though and needs the right match up so getting a bit of free rein in WAFL may help if the coaches give him some back up

Yes, I don’t understand why Jones seems an automatic ‘in’. 23 years old, 30 odd games, not producing much. Often gets caught before disposing of the ball, doesn’t hit targets, and is sloppy with his tackles but he is quick.

I can see why they want him in. Has dash, and a good tackler when he gets it right. Seems like an almost player atm.

Id hope he would. With Gaff on 1 wing id give Petrol sometime on the other wing..... if nothing else than to add some leg speed

Again what good is his speed when he cant get the ball and refuses to use it to chase and tackle or pressure anyone

Gaff deosn't get his own ball. Someone else gives it to him... 35 times a game.
If Petruccelle was given the ball 35 times a game he might actually do something damaging with it.

I'm glad someone else is defending Witho!

I think people's main issue with him is when you're team is getting thrashed every week, surely the guy with a face like this...

Is the one to blame.

Good player, effective disposals, good defensively.... but always looks like he's about to burst into tears.

just take this sensible and logical stuff elsewhere - people here like to be irrationally hysterical

I don't get why so many people get worked up about fringe selection issues. This kind of selection is going to have very limited impacted on the outcome of the match. Worst case scenario is that at the end of the season we realise Jones can't play half back and therefore doesn't have a place on the list. We know Witho can play half back but every coach has their untouchables and whipping boys unfortunately. I mean Simmo continually dropped Schofield and Jetta and I think that cost us that final against Collingwood in 2020. This change - honestly meh - who cares.

IIRC kick ins are also included in an individuals stats.

If this is correct I wonder what Witherden’s stats would look like if only general play performance was included.

My ‘eyes’ don’t see the numbers you’ve posted.

Witherden's dispoals, effictiveness and meters gained stats are often padded by playing on from a healthy number of kick ins.

Witherden is an good player but more than happy to be giving experience to Hough/Bazzo and trying more dynamic players like Yeo/Jones to try to get some better ball movement out of our back line rather than stick with what isnt working.

Happy with the changes but would have rathered Yeo had another WAFL match and Clark over Redden though.

Id say most of that is from the goal kickout. Esp since they playon every kickout these days. So he should be getting 40 to 50m gained every time he kicks out from a behind. And add up all the 30m passes into the pocket from the kickout gives his efficiency.
Hurn if he played every game would be leading those stats Id say.
Sorry GlennTwenty didnt see your post.

Saying that, i like witho and hed be much better off if he wasnt surrounded by turtles, as hes not overly quick himself.

Sorry but it's a quota policy, I need to have a certain ratio of sensible posts in order to keep displaying the 'Sensible' badge
